ahtsong: Dangit now I'm hungry!

SpOOkY: I'm using a Minolta 24-105mm F3.5-4.5 (D) which is similiar to the Sony 24-105mm F3.5-4.5 for my A900. Very compact, shorter than the kit lens, but the range is optimized for a full-frame camera as 24mm is not very wide on APS-C.

The CZ 16-80mm F3.5=4.5 DT will give you the same range on APS-C as a 24-120mm F3.5-4.5 lens will give on full-frame. Of course, there is NO 24-120mm F3.5-4.5 lens - only the Nikkor 24-120mm F3.5-5.6 VR (meh) and the Tamron/Sigma 24-135mm F3.5-5.6 (again, neither of them are F4.5 at the tele end.)

ryzan76: Glad you could use the 2x TC! Memang ngam for this kind of application. smile.gif

achew: It sounds like Singapore has the SAL70300G for cheaper.

auhckw: The A200 has a bigger viewfinder. Its LCD screen does not jut out like A300 and A350. The texture of the handgrip is different, smoother on the A200, and there is a nub between the forefinger and third finger on the A200 grip which is missing from the A300/A350. Other than that there are no differences.

dingenius3: Unfortunately, the Pentax KM is a K-mount camera, and so is the SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 in the picture. There are no K-mount to A-mount adapters as far as I know - if there was one, it would have glass inside to retain infinity focus, but it will lose light and increase the focal length.

More details here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentax_K1000

You should send it for cleaning and shoot film for fun anyway.

Eiraku: Great trio, have a safe trip! You'll regret not bringing a wide, foo!

Bro, albnok thanks for the explanation but it is a bit complicated for me:).

Do you mean that 24mm will not be very wide on non-full-frame such as A200?

Is the SAL24105 24mm same as SAL16105, SAL1870 and sigma 2470 f/2.8 24mm? The 24mm on SAL1870 is sufficient for me for now (but of course 18mm/16mm will be a plus point). If the 24mm are not the same, then why?

I have another question and i do not know is it a problem with my AF.
Scenario:
AF Mode: Single-shot
AF Area: Spot
Metering: Spot

When I lock AF (half-press) on a subject A and recompose my picture, subject A should be AF locked right? Besides, the shutter speed should not change right(since subject A has been locked)?

But my shutter speed tends to change even after I lock AF on subject A and recompose my picture causing subject A to be OOF/wrong exposure.

Any comments on this?

Thanks
Eiraku

That's your problem right there in bold, SPOT METERING... You'll be better off by using AEL Lock (try checking the Manual for this)... AND Local AF, cause Spot AF is soooooo limiting... whistling.gif

Focus --> AEL Lock (lock the exposure reading on whatever you want in correct focus) --> recompose --> profit... IINM... Although recomposing ain't really recommended as it COULD (I say could) result in slight OOFing in the end (ask AhMike about stuff like this, as he's seen more then one occurrence of it with his 135/1.8CZ)... Try playing around with the Local AF points... biggrin.gif

Buying things and comparing things is always not easy sad.gif

I'm stuck between

Sony @300 + Sony 18-250mm = around RM4k
and
Nikon D90 + Kit lens = around RM4k too

If the body, Sony @300 vs Nikon D90, I think D90 wins based on reviews

But @300 wins in terms of price. For the same price of D90, I can get Sony 18-250mm too

So is like comparing,
a lower end camera with better zoom lens
and
a higher end camera with normal zoom lens

My budget is around RM5k... Sleepless night thinking...

ouchies... the pentax camera body got some problem major problem.. thats why it has not seen lights for many years.. too bad... so i guess only Pentax DSLR can use it now.. maybe i'll just wait longer just if someone could design an adapter in the future.. tongue.gif

I have the 50mm/1.7 in my bag but after Janda Baik, thought of looking for a Macro lense. I have dilemma whether to let go 50mm/1.7 for the Macro version of the 50mm.

Need some advise whether is it worth letting go the bigger aperture for better magnification ratio? I believe at 2.8, it is still good an aperture level for potraiture.

Please help..... hmm.gif

not only in M mode la.. A mode also can... S mode also can... it gives u some guidance of which stop u need to use.. if u wanna use flash.. what i learnt is..... LOWER IT BY 1 to 2 STOP.. can see a bit darker at LV.. but then when the flash fired out.. it cover back so the pictah not over-exposed la later nod.gif

not only that can be seen at LV... the white balance setting.. changing the Kelvin value is much much fun in LV instead of guessing the number coz can see how warm/cool the pictah gonnabe.. icon_rolleyes.gif

I was at the Curve, they said A700 no more stock

Budget of RM5k should include extra battery, bag and screen protector. Ya I know D90 with 18-200mm is off budget, so that is why I'll start D90 with kit lens first

just reminding u.. u might need UV filter to protect ur lenses.. prices vary from brand.. i'm using Hoya..
i'm going to suggest u to get the A300 + twin kit lens + UV + CPL + Vertical Grip + 1 extra batt + sturdy tripod... wont cost u more than 5k.. since u targeting a travel lens 18-250... which is still in my wishlist to have... cant really says much on the price.. but its good to get it when u buying in bulk with the whole package.. they might sell u cheaper.... just 1 thing... get the accessories at other shop.. coz some sell them at even half price.. biggrin.gif

@auhckw

I also see a trend in shops that will hike up the price of filters when purchased with a package. So, get your filter from a more reputable shop.

thanks...ooh so the camera is made to be like that. I tot that the metering should be locked based on the AF too. I know what is AEL, thanks...

I know that recomposing with Spot AF is not good idea as it may lead to OOF but sometimes the 9 local points just isnt sufficient when i want my subject to be really on the edge of the pic....

Besides, i use Spot AF is because it will be easier to non-dslr user to capture pic for me:)

I have one more question, as illustrated above, there are 4 rows of ppl (o,a,m and d)...if i were to shoot this type of group pic, where should i lock my AF? Infinity? What i usually do is lock AF on d and increase the DOF to either f/6 or more...is this correct?
