Er..I'm afraid I'm not familiar with compact cameras, but I'm pretty sure that there should be a Lumix that is within your budget. For compacts, I seldom see people recommending Nikons.

Hey guys lowyat having camera fair
EOS 1000d - body&kit, bag,tripod &2Gb(but can bargain to 4Gb) going for RM1899

D60 - body&kit, bag, tripod 4Gb going for RM23++(dont remember)

Very tempting. Does EOS 1000d have stabilizer? Should I pay RM400 more to get D60 for its "VR"?

I have used panasonic lumix FS-5 for about a year....i bought it at RM 750 + 2G SD card

Lumix is very good camera....and the price is very cheap compare to the other competitor...

My friend just bought Lumix FX180......the quality is superb....14MP.....with HD quality video..... drool.gif

The battery is also good.......can take many pic with 2 hour charge.....

But the lack is it cannot charge the batery with USB port like sony does..... sweat.gif

@blynn123:

True what your friends said - but some point and shoot cameras have a higher pixel count than DSLRs. Just because they're big black boxes doesn't mean that they have very high pixel counts. Take the 1000D for example. It has a 10.1MP CMOS sensor.

Go for the Lumix FZ28 or a Sony a200 for 1.4k. Should get you contented. If you can increase your budget then get a Lumix LX3.

I'll catch up with the others later.

You'll have to increase your budget or you can't get a new 1000D/D60. Both are about Rm2k for their kit set.

If you want to lower your budget you can get a Sony a200. Or a used set.

Oh, and if you're lucky you might find a shop selling 1000D/D60 for RM1800 or RM2000 with lots of freebies. Depends on your luck.

i think u shud js stick to ur 1.2k budget n go for FX38.

fx180's 14mp is quite useless, unless ur planning to make big big big big big size print.

I need a backpack to store my DSLR stuffs (450D, 18-55mm IS, 55-250mm IS, 50mm 1.8) and carry it around on a motorcycle. Hope to get some recommendations on suitable all-weather backpack (with rain cover). Is there a shop in KL that stock many camera backpack models? Easy for me to try them out. Thanks.

1000D/D60 is the best choice for a beginner with your budget.

I suggest you read a few reviews about these two before making your decision - because if you ask me which to choose I'd say 1000D, because I'm using it now.

I think you can get the Lowepro Slingshot 100 AW.. perfect for your gears. I'm not sure whether it has raincover though...
