It's because your kernel isn't set correctly.

Firstly, are you on a fat or slim unit?
Next, what firmware are you on?
Lastly, what homebrew are you trying to run? Is it a kXploit homebrew (folder and folder%) or 1.00 build homebrew(folder only) ?

It depends on what firmware the DJ Max game you're talking about needs to run. If it needs a firmware higher than 4.01, then you need to get 5.00M33.

Here, use this guide :

Requirements :
1)A phat/slim psp which has custom firmware 3.52m33-3 or any firmware above it.
*Minimum requirement is 3.52m33-3*

Guide

1) First of all,you need to set your kernel to 3.xx/4.xx.You can do so in recovery mode or in your VSH menu (if you have the VSH addon plugin installed)

**Recovery : Hold the off switch for 3-5 seconds, then HOLD R and boot your psp up.Now go to configuration, and click X at the "Game Folder Homebrew" option until it displays as 3.xx/4.xx kernel.Example : On a 3.52m33-3/4 psp,it should show as 3.52 kernel.

2) Download the 5.00M33 installer : http://exophase.com/files/psp/5.00M33.rar

3) Download the 5.00 eboot.pbp : http://exophase.com/files/psp/500.PBP

4) Use your preferred software to extract the 5.00M33 rar file. You should now get two folders (UPDATE and Translate) as well as a readme.txt file.

5) Copy the UPDATE folder and paste it in ms0:/PSP/GAME.

** It should now look like this : ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/eboot.pbp **

6)Time,for the 5.00 eboot (step 2).

7) Copy the 500.PBP and paste it in your ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE directory.

** It should now look like this : ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/eboot.pbp and 500.pbp **

8) That's all, seriously. All you need to do now is to run the installer on your PSP.

** The installer will seem very official like, but don't worry, that's how it's supposed to be like **

9) Remember, once the update is over,PRESS X/O when it asks you to do so or your psp will brick!!

10) What else,enjoy!

for fat unit, u need the 1.5kernel update.
then check & see about your UMD driver, weather u need one in the slot to play, or m33.

I'm pretty new to PSP and just acquired one 2 weeks ago....my cousin had just bought a PSP 4 of months ago too and apparently her PSP just went dead while she was playing half way.

The power green light is ON but there's nothing on the screen. Brick-ed?How did that happen when she did not do anything but just playing games?

She would usually play until there's no battery (PSP shut down by itself) before she charges it. Would that be a problem? Tried to understand the below FAQ answers below but couldn't really apply to her situation. I'm worried I would have the same situation now.

QUOTE
What is a brick?

A: A brick is an object that is most commonly used to build buildings. But in PSP terms, a brick is a situation where your PSP becomes a lifeless object. This can happen if the flash memory is corrupted.

Q: How can the flash memory corrupt?

A: It can happen in various ways. As long as it involves transaction of data to and from flash (flashing), it's vulnerable to bricks. An example of an activity which requires flashing is when performing firmware updates. So, if the flashing process is interrupted (e.g. loss of power), the PSP will then brick.

Update -4 is good. The update -6 just increases your memory stick's speed.

Well, then your cousin's psp isn't bricked i suppose. Does it boot up when a charger is plugged into it?

I'm really new to the PSP arena and have been switched into here when I asked questions outside. smile.gif Noob to PSP, Noob to this forum too. So a quick question...

Is there anyway that I can resume/pause my downloading of games from PSN to my PSP? I tried the media manager, but it just restarts all over again, much to my frustration. It's really slow too!!

Any help would be really good. I'm about to tear my hair out.
