any kinds of monitor with flat panel screen display (852859) with diagonal size exceeding 34.29cm have a total tax @ 35% (25%+10%). A monitor for computer not exceeding 30.5cm in diagonal are not subject to any tax (847160).

Laptab ,highly appreciate your comment on this.

I bought toys (Lego) with overall values of RM2500 frm US with assumption that
Customs will only charged me with 10% (Sales Tax).

All delivered via DHL Air Freight Forwarder.

However, they actually charged me with 15% (Import Duties 5%; Sales Tax 10%).

Based on the receipts, they used tariff code --- 9504.30.990

Whereas based on few conversation with other forumers, they only had been charged at 10%
although their package overall value is more than RM2000.

According to fellow forumers, the tariff code used is under header 9503

Highly appreciate your feedback. Tq

The exact HS Code Tariff for LEGO should be 9503.00.4000 with total tax 10% which used for 'kinds of puzzle or scaled down models toys', LEGO is a kind of puzzle.
9504.30.9900 is used for; other games, operated by coins, banknotes, bank cards, tokens or by other means of payment, other than automatic bowling alley equipment, which have total tax 15%.
You should contact customs and complaint about this, I has been told by Customs that tax payment is refundable if there is mistakes in classification of goods tariff made by Customs officer.

hi, i want to ask something about the duty/tax

For example, if i bought something oversea over RM400 (rm400 custom duty exemption) let say around RM700 worth of plastic models (toys) and bring it back to Malaysia. How much is the airport custom duty (is the airport duty fixed 30% or depend on the item)? Im going to bring it in my luggage. and its for personal use

anyone can share their experience?

Malaysia fat police tax almost any item

I ordered a " CLOTH " from a US store actually it was free and i just pay the shipping charges only

The cloth is actually a bonus gift for fathers day gift promotion

It reached malaysia but stuck

when collect at the pos , the police tax it 300% of the shipping saying is a illegal material

Ask them why is it illegal and they just reply " you want it you pay it "

i was like wth ???

Good thing the seller did not indicate the cloth price , only indicate how much the shipping cost (6.95usd )

Dear forumers,

Just to share 1 new thing I learned when using courier service for goods from overseas.

The CIF value is not actually as in your invoice. The custom dept have their own calculation for minimum freight charges. Actual freight charges is only used when exceed the minimum charges.

Here are few example of min FC;
China- RM 107.97
Japan - RM 322.15
UK - RM 299.05
US - RM 379.98

Total shipment value is the CIFC which is;

FOB (item cost) + Insurance (1%) + min FC

for example, to be eligible for below RM500 value (tax exempted value) for a purchase in US, you total item value including insurance should be RM 500- RM 379.98 = RM 120.02.

If your purchase exceed RM 120.02, your item will be taxable according to HS code.

Above example applicable for all courier service, fedex, DHL, UPS and etc. From my experience using EMS, above calculation my not be applicable.

Hope this would help.
