It might get taxed as once I asked the officer in Miri, they also count the totals with shipping, where even I ordered toys (figures) that are at RM 300 with shipping for RM 120, I still get taxed for 10%.

But these are all case by case basis, I know items in Sarawak always taxed easily, sighhh

most of the times, customs will use 'minimum freight charges' determined by them if your freight charges looks too low. Plus, any tax calculation that involving USD-RM currency, customs may use 'fixed exchange rates' of RM3.80/USD1. Never hope too high, you will be dissapointed at the end.

Hi All,

My bro will be sending me an Iphone back from UK. I was wondering what is the procedure to apply for SIRIM permit, and any additional fees or charges that I will be paying? Can all these done thru online?

Also, anyone has good experience with DHL? as the phone's shipment fees will be borne by me, how can I proceed with DHL on that? Any idea? unsure.gif

Any feedback is much appreciated notworthy.gif

Hi Laptab,

Thank you for the info. By any chance you've experienced the similar procedures before? Should I be applying the permit before or after the shipment of the phone from UK?

Up to you, but for me applying the permit before the shipment arrive is better. Procedures of importation for any telecommunication products is easy for me.

Thank you for the info. Since you've done thru similar procedures, would you mind to share some experience regarding courier & custom procedures?

For instance, if I were to utilize DHL/Fedex to ship the phone, parcel held in custom for SIRIM permit, and have to go to KLIA custom to submit the permit and pay for any additional fees?

Also, how can I pay the DHL/Fedex if the shipment fees were to be borne by me? Any idea? unsure.gif notworthy.gif

no additional fees. Customs/Courier will contact you asking for import permit, you can whether email the import permit to courier or customs or just give them permit number, they can check (the permit validity/details) online.

I just received an SMS from fedex stating that AWB hass been clear with Duty and tax of RM 267.21.

Is this bourne by the sender or the recipient? Previously I order 1 sample unit for a touch screen monitor from Shenzen for testing purpose.

Thanks

Any chances you know the percentage of the tax? Seems to be kind of steep for a USD 190.00 item. Can we dispute on that?

Edit: NVM seems like they scanned an incorrect AWB which is causing the issue. But anyhow thanks for the info Laptab notworthy.gif
