Not the type that usually recommends distros, since I'm more of a rolling-release D.I.Y type, but here are a few notable new releases that I find interesting
New Stable GRML release My current fave Debian-based distro. As light as Arch (lighter in some cases), blazing quick, file-rc (no symlink hell like vanilla Debian's sysv-rc), Zsh as default shell, apt-fast included by default..... etc Salix Ratpoison 13.37 beta1 Slackware based with one of the all-time great window managers. Nothing says, "F*ck Touchpads!!" quite like the mighty Ratpoison. Pretty light, fast and great dev behind the project. Still beta though. Zenix OS Also Debian-based. Very CrunchBang-like. Includes OpenBox and AwesomeWM. Some of the nicest wallpapers I've seen in a distro. This post has been edited by G-17: Jun 15 2011, 08:36 PM |

Hmm ... if you're on Debian, I suppose you could try this .deb
https://launchpad.net/~zenix-shravaka/+arch...5zenix1_all.deb Found it on the Zenix PPA, btw. I claim no responsibility. https://launchpad.net/~zenix-shravaka/+archive/ppa/+packages Other than that, I suppose you could e-mail the dev or post in his blog. Here's one of the walls I got from an acquaintance that uses Zenix http://ompldr.org/vOTF0bw This post has been edited by G-17: Jun 15 2011, 09:11 PM |

Hey guys , I am currently having Ubuntu 11.04 in my lappy and I feels like alot of apps doesnt support this OS. So I decided to convert back to 10.04 LTS.
I visit the site http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/ . Wondering which one shud I choose. My lappy is Compaq Presario CQ40-420AU AMD TurionX2 64 proc.. Shud I choose AMD 64 or Intel x86 for better performance ? My friend all recommend Backtrack 5. What is good in Backtrack 5 and does it as "light" as Ubuntu ? |

Hello guys!
I am currently using WindowsXP on my Asus EeePC 1000H, and I would like to take the first step to explore Linux OS and install it in my netbook! Can you guys help recommend me a Linux Distro for my Asus EeePC 1000H? There are some features that I hope the Distro can provide : 1. Speed (as I am using a Netbook, I need as much performance as I can get) 2. Customizability (or.. is this feature widely available for all linux distros?) 3. Applications (I need games and video editor, but then again, are all applications the same/usable across all distros?) 4. Compatibility, with netbook's hardware (Asus EeePC 1000H) Do recommend me a suitable Linux Distro! Thanks! and if I am posting in the wrong thread, do let me know. |
