i think as a newbie, starting with virtual pc is a better move than dual boot. as you get used to virtual pc then you can move on to dual boot. it's less risky that way. and less cursing rclxub.gif , a better ending~

Hi, I just dualbooted my Ubuntu 9.04 with Windows. The thing is, why my fonts look so weird in Firefox when surfing LYN?

Anyone knows why? Thanks.

Added on November 10, 2009, 6:05 pm^Nvm, manage to install the mttf thingy and it's nice now. Thanks.

basicly all is same. some distro is newbie friendly, some is not. some is 'become the leader' some just normal update.

eg in ubuntu, u just double click .deb, the installer come out, ask password, download missing dependecy automagicly. however double click deb in simplymepis will just open gedit or kedit.

I just installed opensuse 11.2 into my old amd barton 2500 pc... previously using ubuntu 9.10 and not happy with it although less laggy compare to 9.04.

I think ubuntu is a good start for beginner.

yes, ubuntu is quite easy for beginner, easy to install and easy to use. You can use wubi if want to install in the windows partition, also you can request for free the cd but have to wait about 5 week la..

Owh ok. But creating your own liveCD is faster. Or even better, creating a LiveUSB. No worries of damaged CD biggrin.gif

You don't have to go for tutorials if you have Ubuntu 9.04 or higher. You can use the USB Startup Disk Creator feature located in System->Administrator to create a liveUSB. Provided that your laptop can boot form CD. So, you need to check your bios whether it can boot from USB or not.

Unless you wants extra knowledge, go for the tutorials. smile.gif

Thank you Sir for the useful information, this forum rocks in the Linux world, I was so happy to read that ubuntu is #1 for the last 12 months because it is what I am using for three productive years now after so much time comparing destros.
