Hai, may I know that the Linux ver 9 system can support SATA / SATA II drive or? Or it is just for SCSI cable?

I tried in SATA can not successfully install. Does it mean it can be only install in Server PC?
*
It depends on the SATA chipset being used.
AFAIK, ICH5/ICH5R SATA can be detected by RH 7.3

Any distro would do.
Just simply pick any and just change if you don't like it.
It takes time to appreciate it.

Ubuntu is an excellent distro to start out with. After all, it's called "Linux for Human Beings" and the developers are making Ubuntu as user-friendly as possible.

Why is ppl still going towards Redhat 9 or 7.3? Those are Really old and you shouldn't be using those unless you know how to backport security packages to fit those systems.

Go with the newer ones or try ubuntu as someone suggested.

I use Gentoo. I love the CLI.

probably for specific needs. like an aodv mesh router would need a 2.4 kernel to run, so RH9 is the best bet. i myself still prefer RH9, maybe because i'm so used to it. the newer linux are just too fancy biggrin.gif . FC still has the RH feels but it boots too slow and opensSuSe(currently using) just feels weird.

With DSL (DamnSmallLinux), there's nothing to configure in order to use.
Just burn the iso (approx 50mb) into a CD and boot from it.

i have just installed Ubuntu's Feisty fawn on my previously Ubuntu's edgy eft. for your info to those whose computer doesn't have very high spec, they can try installing Xubuntu which is a variant of Ubuntu but uses xfce desktop environment instead of gnome or any linux distro but uses xfce desktop environment for that matter.

"Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for various *NIX systems. Designed for productivity, it loads and executes applications fast, while conserving system resources." - Olivier Fourdan, creator of Xfce

for those who are interested in knowing when or where their favourite linux distro is derive from can check out this Linux distro timeline by KDE.

Which distro I should install?
My requirment;

Must have Java, python, everything so when I install programes I wouldn't have problems with dependcacacies (like when i install AVG it said my distro didn't have bla, bla.

By the way my distro I use now is OPENSUSE.

And actually I want to try Debian, but I'm scared by it's 14cds but some forummer said we only need 3 CD to install Debian,so what is the function of the other 10+ cds?

you can't get rid of dependencies absolutely.

some packages would have dependencies that's outside normal repository scope.

using package manager might be able to solve some, but not all.

however, when installing a distro, installing everything would help a bit in that.
