the customs at the border.. normally do they kacau u when u come back from brunei?  or it is like malaysian n thai border.. basically there is no border.. u can go in and out of thailand and malaysia without any documents:).. and if the customs wanna check your car at the malaysian border just say the magic word 'Play Golf' then u r through:)
*
I am a regular to Brunei as its only 1 hr drive. Sometimes me and my wife drove to brunei just for sushi as there is a very very good Japanese restaurant there. We went there for shopping too and shopping as there are a lot of imported things like Juice, butter, chocolate which is quite cheap. I went there 3 times since last week because I am buying a Honda Odyssey there. If i am lucky i might be getting my Odyssey next week and at the same time the SVS woofers too so I can just use my odyssey to carry the SVS back as I don't think it will fit in my Altis.

So far the Malaysian custom never check my car at all. In fact I hardly see any of them around at all. Just scan the passport and go.

No problems to buy car from Brunei but use in Miri? Are cars cheaper in Brunei?
*
To drive Brunei car, I need a Brunei work permit which my friend in Brunei have arrange for me.

Brunei cars are dirt cheap. Most of them are at only half price as compare to M'sia. I just bought my 2006 2.4L Honda Odyssey for RM68k.

ARV ARRIVED AT: KUALA LUMPUR 15-Jul-2009 15JUL;KUL;TJU;

Htkaki,
is the PC12-Plus shipped in double box? If yes, that means I can remove the outer box and just leave the sub in its actual box which is smaller to fit in my Altis.

Hooray...my SVS sub is now in Brunei Airport. The agent just call me an hour ago. The agent can collect and pay the 5% GST and send the item to the door for B$80 extra. rclxms.gif

Will go pick up my SVS from Brunei friend probably on Sunday.

Ohmy ..... you use that woofer but floorstand a PSB alpha t1? shocking.gif wouldn't the bass overshadow your mid and high?
*
But all subs can control the volume of the bass so its not really a problem. He just have more room to create better bass effortlessly.

QUOTE(jchong @ Jul 17 2009, 10:45 PM)
Dang, that SVS is so much bigger than your main speakers!

I think lately a lot of people have been poisoned by bass and spending a disproportionate amount on a sub compared to the rest of the speakers smile.gif Which brings me to the question: what % should you spend on the sub compared to the rest of the speakers? Found these threads discussing the issue: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thre...-speaker-budget and http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/hom...ker-budget.html

For me the sub is nearly 33% of my 5.1 setup cost. What's yours?
*
I am using a velo CHT12R now which retails for aorund Rm2500 a few years back. Its consider a pretty decent sub by many but I just think that the 12R is not good for music at all. The bass just sound "loose" and not fast enough. That could easily spoil the whole music listening experience. In fact my car stereo without woofer give much better sounding bass then the 12R. The 12R is just bad for music. So i think it is justifiable to invest a lot more for the sub as its an important part of the sound system especially with today's recording which can get really low.

I haven't got my SVS PC12-Plus so i'm not sure how well it will sound. I just jump in blindly after reading how good it is from reviewers on the internet and i hope i won't be disappointed.

I finally got my SVS PC12-Plus last thursday, but I have to go back to my home town to visit my dad for a few days. so didn't manage to really set it up and test it till today.

Here are some pictures of my lovely PC12-Plus.

Still in the box with my old 12" B&W sub.

The undressing....

Here are a comparison of the 3 subs .... from right to left ... Velodyne CHT-12R , SVS PC12-Plus , and finally the B&W.
user posted image

Here is my personal opinions of the PC12-Plus. I don't call it a review as I'm not an expert in this field and I don't really know what I'm doing sweat.gif

The PC12-Plus comes in a very sturdy box and mine came in perfect condition. The size is really big but i have plenty of room for it. Will show some more picture of it later.

I calibrate mine with the SPL meter I order from SVS and its pretty easy process.

Now comes the part about how the PC12-Plus really sound. First I play some of my favorites music like Dire Straits' Tunnel of Love and Eagles' Hotel California and I'm please to say that is sub is indeed great for music. Its fast, and very tight and best of all its not boomy at all. I can't say how much I hated the 12R as its just doesn't sound great for music at all. The last time I heard good sounding sub is from the REL T1, and the PC12-Plus is another great sounding sub and it blends in with my speakers really well. It just sound so much better then my previous 2 subs.

Then I play some movies to see how good the PC12-Plus really is after reading so much rave reviews on the internet and I am happy to say that this is indeed the best sub i have ever heard! It can go really low that i can really feel my sofa vibrate. Even my plaster ceiling vibrates! There is one time it even trigger the alarm sensor.
But this thing is not only loud. It sounds really awesome....the bass is clean and tight and never boomy. Best of all is when I play it really loud and this baby just doesn't seems to run out of juice.

Considering the price I pay for this PC12-Plus, I have to give it 2 thumps up and I recommend that everyone who is looking for a good sub should try this baby out. You won't be disappointed.

I fix my B&W sub and its working fine now so I gave it to my brother. He is enjoying it very much now. I want to sell my CHT-12R for RM1000...any takers?

QUOTE(jwyj @ Jul 28 2009, 05:54 AM)
Congratulations too. smile.gif So, the process getting via Brunei not too difficult? Enjoy your sub.... but you will not be satisfied until you get a bigger one.
I think this is big enough for me now. I can see some plaster ceiling powder on the floors! sweat.gif

Ketam kacau you or not. If no tax, it's a very good price you get it.
*
Don't see any Ketam officer around so I just drove straight thru'. Only pay 5% GST for Brunei side. So the price I pay for the PC12-Plus is less then RM3800 rclxms.gif ...i don't think anyone can beat this price. biggrin.gif

I don't think so. I got discount because of the 7.0 SVS speakers package my friend bought and some very special deal because of the problem encounters during my long ordering process. Then i got some more discount because SVS wrongly calculate the total and have to give some more discount.

Yalor smile.gif I go thru so much troubles to get the PC12-Plus and I do not rush and pay unnecessary cost. So finally a great sub at a great price. But do not use my price as a yardstick as my case is different.

I got a setup problem need expert advice here?

I did my calibration with the SPL meter base on the instruction on the setup manual provided by SVS. I set all my speakers to 75db with my AVR main volume at 0 with the pink noise from my Denon AVR3805. Then I set the PC12-Plus to 80db with the AVR sub volume to 25% and the volume knob on the SVS at roughly 9 O clock position. With this setting I play some music and movies and the bass is just too soft. I have to turn the volume knob on the PC12-Plus to 12 O clock position to get good bass. At this volume level, my SPL meter reading for my sub is at 95 to 100db.

Did I do something wrong here. Why is my bass so weak when its calibrated to the same level as the other speakers?

lightning69,

My advise to you would be to use this software called REW and run you sub and your mains together. This will help to identify if there is a problem. Pls pm me if you need help. Another thing to note is what is the settings on the AVR. Was Audyssey run? Maybe the internal trims are set too low.
*
I don't have Audyssey, How do I use REW software? What hardware do I need to run REW?

You need a laptop/desktop, a soundcard with line out and line in (not mic in) and some cables. Do a google search on REW. It is pretty easy to use, what you will get is a set of graphs showing your room response to a frequency sweep. You can move your sub around and see what is the most neutral integration with your fronts.

It  is a powerful tool, either that or use the test tones and move the sub around and measure with the SPL meter in your primary seating position.
*
Hmmm...sound card with line in is what i don't have. Might just want to try different placement of the sub first.
