I think its neither !! Maybe Its not even a tortoise !!

I think its a Notochelys platynota - Malayan Flat-shelled Turtle

http://www.chelonia.org/notochelys_gallery.htm

Hint given as in " local beauty"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW how could I be wrong , my friend has a whole yard of them !! ranging in size from newly hatch to seasoned (shell worned smooth ) breeder !!

Quite nice star, well balanced pyramiding..lines a bit thin though...are all yor stars pyramided?

Don't feed them too much long beans or high protein diet if you want some to have smooth curvy carapace.

Also, rmbr they need a hideout with some moisture too...keep posting your other pics bro

Cheers  thumbup.gif

Hie Guys,

Ooh.. My torts in near 5 inches in SCL. I never feed them long beans, but when beginning, used to feed them a lot of Exo Terra pellets. I think this maybe the cause for the minor pyramiding. Now I'm only feed them green mustard, unless when I want to feed them calcium supplement, I will feed them on top of wet pellets.

My snapper is around 3.5 inches though. Quite heavy eater. Once snap on a large feeder fish, its claws can easily torn the fish into halves. Was thinking to sell the ally snapper though. It's too fierce for me to handle..haha.

Those Malayan Flat-shelled turtle are even cuter and nicer/colourful as hatchlings , ranging from yellowish green (most sources say apple green ) to yellow with some dots on some of the scutes !!
Comparable to pastel RES without the pattern !!

Try search the net for pic (quite rare)

maybe thats just cause by genetic?because my ST,have vary grwoth.some like to have pyramid, and one of them has really smooth shell..but some pellet do contain high protein..i dunno with exo-terra.

QUOTE(http://www.asianturtle.org/htm/species_Notochelys_platynota.html)
Comments: This interesting turtle, very rare in captivity, has a distinctive flattened, elongated, and lightly grooved carapace. It has the reputation for doing poorly in captivity but new husbandry methods, including the use of large, warm, well-planted enclosures, and advances in deparasitization and veterinary protocols, are producing successes in keeping this turtle alive and well. The bright yellow to apple-green carapaces of the hatchlings make them some of the most beautiful young turtles in the world.

Is that the growth rate for your AST?
I couldn't find any information about their growth rate online.
Is it ok to feed it with fish only?
