no lar... it's my part time leisure job, and it's a hobby. I have a daytime job...
Playing in a band is fun for me.... i love playing in bands, i dont mind playing even if they dont pay... i just love playing...

Btw, i'm in a 6-piece band...

I dont like doing those unplugged or sequenced music stuff...

No, not really. Santana is a soloist, so, he's not it.

I mean, i've seen a few local guitarists playing in a band, even playing covers, they just "GOTTA" do something technical, which actually spoils a good song, but he thinks he's so great.

For example... do you shred playing country songs ? Guess not.

Or, messing with harmonics in samba ? *buzzer* no.

I joined back my old band last year.

My body kinda used to 9-5 routines... playing at night, makes me tired.

event and pubs are different

pubs , your job is more stable , usually go by contract ...like aaron5829 ...he plays every friday ..
most pub bands gets paid between RM110-RM140 per night , 6 days a week , 9pm-1am ..

as for events ..
it is not a stable job , it is only a one off , so your pay varies ..could be as low as RM50 per person , to RM8000 per person per night

Your body will get used to it.

Last time when i play full time, my sleeping hours are 5am - 2pm. 3:30pm practice til 6pm. Get some rest. Start playing at 10pm.

i guess every job has its own sacrifices...

this is the life i want

local musicians earning ranging from rm1.5k ~ rm10k. depends on what you do, and how you do.

say, teaching can be around rm80~rm300, but the music center gonna take at least 40% from that (you're very lucky to find a center give you 70%). private teaching can be as less as rm50 per hour to rm200 per hour, normally a master degree holder will charge rm120 per hour.

gigs are about rm200 per night (1~3sets, depends) to rm1000 per night, depends on what kind of gigs you play. if you play for royal family events, you might get around rm800~rm1000 + $$$ tips if anyone love your playing. if you're going through agents, you'll expect less.

orchestra players i'm not too sure, but it'll be around rm2k to rm5k. this you have to ask around. well i'm not including MPO here, if you think you're that good, you don't need to ask your initial question anymore.

and there's also music production field but i won't get deep into that cause there're too many variations.

i don't know about others, but we do see here example of few forummers who can make a good money just being a musician..

me, i don't dare yet to go full time musician.., that's why i keep my day time job.. !

just play occasionally at corporate event.., doing dinner show or other event that involves live band.

i'm play guitar and vocals sometimes, my band usually a 5-piece or sometimes 6-pieces band.

pay around - 1,500 to 3k per show.. that's really cheap i think.. if thinking from the preparation to that event..

play for free also for own company event..

the way i see it now - in malaysia - it's not that easy to make a living by being a musician alone.. !

you have diversify or have extremely great talent so that ppl will pay more to see u and ur band playing..

i think our pub and bar gives too much space to those filipinos.. , but they are not solely to be blame either, those filipinos musician / grup comes in package - usually they good and sexy.!

sexy is the one lacking from our band show..

what else can make money from being a musician?

write / compose a song - price starts from 500 - 5000 per pop. depends on ur popularity lah..! if you're just starting., they might pay u peanut.., wait till 1 of your song getting to the chart, then only ppl will start paying attention to you., and pay you more..!

teach instrument - for RM50 for half hour.. not bad ya?..

be an arranger - this one also pays well - about 500-800-1500 per song. (that's what i heard the normal rate)

the best way to make money - be an artist itself la! group some members, practice, create ur own song then try to push the demo to all records company in malaysia.., if u're lucky ..! u might get a record deal.! and be an artiste..

or.. sell it online.!
