solo show offs?ahem* santana whistling.gif
you mean you are doing this full time? blink.gif
*
No, not really. Santana is a soloist, so, he's not it.

I mean, i've seen a few local guitarists playing in a band, even playing covers, they just "GOTTA" do something technical, which actually spoils a good song, but he thinks he's so great.

For example... do you shred playing country songs ? Guess not.

Or, messing with harmonics in samba ? *buzzer* no.

That's what i meant.

lolz...i wonder how would it be if you do it full time... sweat.gif

I was full time when after my college days...

After that, i sort of quit of a few years...

I joined back my old band last year.

Until today lor.

My body kinda used to 9-5 routines... playing at night, makes me tired.

LOL

Your body will get used to it.

Last time when i play full time, my sleeping hours are 5am - 2pm. 3:30pm practice til 6pm. Get some rest. Start playing at 10pm.

or be like aaron! he's so good i think.! can get a regular spot in the pub..!

*
LOL bro, come on lar.. I'm not good at all lar... there are a lot of greater musicians out there.

To be honest, to get regular spots at pubs and all, the 'not so' secret and most important is SOUND GOOD AS A BAND.

Individual skills mean nothing when the bandmates cannot cooperate with each other or sound amateurish.

A lot might argue that, great individual skills makes a great band... my answer is, sure, but not all the time.

When a member feels he is better than another member, problems start.

Clean up the parts, tighten the music and attacks, be simple, only go all out when needed to. Like when it's time for you to show it all off, then by all means, go ahead.

You know how a sessionist play ? That is how it's supposed to be done.

Just my opinion. tongue.gif

On aaron wrote about band attitude..!, yes - spot on mate! to be in a band.. is to play like a band!

you can't even think that you're good or better than any other members of the band.. and if you are., you are the one who need to guide them.., not to provoke them or to show off..!

learn this hard way...! and would not hesitate to kick off any band member of behave unlike the band member supposed to be..

discipline is most important thing.., to be able to show up on time for practise.., for show. for any appointment..!

no discipline.., you're as good as goner!
*
Exactly, some people, eventhough they are good, they are always there to guide, these kind of people earn their respect...and some good musicians, always look down on other musicians. I hate these type of musicians.

And so true about dicipline, as not only in turning up for practices on time etc..., but in terms of music playing, he/she has to be very diciplined as well.

Then only a band can sound good.

Also, if you have a band, harmonization in vocals is key too.

usually if u get a contract by a pub, 6days a week, u'll be the only band tat play for the pub for tat period ?

or are there other band tat plays while u rest?
sry i'm not a clubber tongue.gif

Bro, it depends on the pub ler.

Certain pubs have happy hour bands, some pubs, hire a different band on saturdays, some only have 1 resident band.

So it varies.

However, the most common, only 1 band... because bands are not cheap. lol
