this really depends on a lot of things.... if you're a teacher, it depends on your class duration, fees, and how many students you have (duh)... if you're an awesome teacher im sure you can get pretty decent income. Not to mention if you hold classes with a few students all at once, chances are you'll make quit ea lot.
nowdays guitar lessons are like.... 50 bucks for 1/2 hour - 45 mins? That's crazy. Imagine teaching 10 classes a week (5 hours total time). Thats 2K a month just on teaching. If you do other stuff like play in pubs/clubs/bars, you'll probably hit the 3K mark.... that assumes you're really good at what you do |

i'm not a teacher nor a professional musician. but from what i heard, unless u're the best of the best in the country, its really hard to make a living in malaysia. even the big names in malaysia also have a hard time making money performing. so i guess that just leaves teaching music, and that's a more stable source of income. |

1. Beginner violin student average fee monthly is RM100.
2. The music school will give around 60% to the teacher, which is RM60. 3. Every class is 30 minutes. 4. Teaching full day, from 10AM to 5PM (estimate) which is 7 hours per day. 5. 7 hours can slot in 14 students. 6. Every monthly, you will be paid that for teaching 14 students. 7. 14 students times RM60 is RM840. 8. What if the teacher are working 5 days in a week? 9. 14 students times 5 days in a week is 70 students grand total 10. 70 students times RM60 is RM4200. Think again, that is the amount you have earn for just teaching beginners. You can still enjoy 2 days rest from it. What if teaching grade 5 students? Grade 5 average monthly fee is RM160. So RM160 times 70 students is RM11, 200. What about grade 8? Diploma???? Malaysians likes to talk about the amount of earning money, so this is theory. Everyone in this thread post is just does not make enough sense for me as I am really serious in music and I have experienced it. Each Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra musician earns about RM1, 000 in one performance. I could not explain a lot on this, there is a forumer named "little ice" knows more than me. Other than that, rock musician earns about RM1, 000 too for a performance. It does not matter if it is a band or solo. I have done a guitar performance for a company and I get paid RM400 for just 3 songs performance. You can do the math for the rest. Speaking of performance, you have to be very good before you really go out and work. Make sure you play something that the audience likes, but not being selfish playing licks. hmmm...
as for teaching..best bet is to try out anything to do with Grades ..Rock school for example .. Grade 3 - RM140 per month Grade 4 - RM160 per month Grade 5 - RM180 per month.. your salary increases based on how far a student progress .. if you are not qualified , your student forever paying you RM100 per month .. anyway , just don't get too carried away to "wanna make loads of money" ....just have fun and have passion ..it will pay , short tem loss , long term gain okay ..besides the pay .. another thing to consider is ..."the next promotion" .. such as , you canot be a guitar teacher forever , one day ..you gotta open your own school..take it to the next level you canot be a pub/live musician forever , one day ...you gotta be a big time producer , or a pub owner ...take it to the next level. you cannot be a salesman forever , one day..you gotta open your own bentley music ..take it to the next level.. so .. pick an industry that suits you..and go for industries that have a very possible and positive long term effect for you something that you can actually learn something besides "how to teach" , "how to sell" .. see how others manage their companies , their systems ... so that one day you can expand and take it to the next level .. few more things to consider or you can improve on that could potentially increase your income : 1.returning customer 2.word of mouth 3.networking or customer base (follow up) This post has been edited by gapnap: Oct 21 2008, 01:25 AM |
