I support this. Isn't the shop last time operated under the tree ? biggrin.gif It's near Taman Maluri, Jusco

Now they moved to the new shoplot Queenspark; tt's near Taman Maluri, Jusco.

Looks cleaner but no more the nostalgic feel. But best part is, the food still good thumbup.gif

Klang's the place with the best BKT, IMO... One of my favorites is this restaurant in Taman Intan, near the ING Tower... Unfortunately i forgot the name (always slip my mind!) but it's the second lot next to a Teluk Pulai or something shop...

now the place is always jammed pack and have to wait damn long just to sit for a table. i saw some ppl fighting over the table of who came first and who stand here first blah blah blah.

fuah, makan also wan fight.
anyway just in case u all didnt know bout this place,
its bak kut teh by yap chuan. the 14/15 yr old champion boy who cooks and became a champion by god knows who and highly recommended by the chinese astro guy host which i dunno his name and i dun really care coz if i ever see him, i will slap him.

i'm wondering other than the kepong and jinjang area, are there any nice dry bkt ? i've tried most of klang bkt and basically not suitable to my liking. the one at jinjang is superb but only opens at 2am onwards and have to sit bawah pokok whereby got a lotta leaves and etc etc droppings.

kasi rekomen. if not too expensive i will belanja even.

Bro...probably u wanted to change the title to Hunt for the best BKT? biggrin.gif

Actually Yap Chuan has opened another branch at Bdr Baru Klang....in between Maybank & also Celcom...if I'm not mistaken fronting Windmill..N3 03.828 E101 28.189

Other than Yap Chuan which getting very expensive due to the Astro show, there is another good one in Equine park..Yap Beng...taste almost similar to Yap chuan ..Still wondering whether both related....Yap Chuan..Yap Beng hmm.gif hmm.gif location N2 59.777 E101 40.387

Another nais one in bdr Puteri is Kungfu Bah kut Teh but the pricing is even worst than Yap Chuan..located beside Puteri Mart at N3 01.016 E101 36.890

Other not so bad BKT in Puchong include:

Teluk Pulai near DHL at N3 00.766 E101 36.834
Dragon view at the bck of Tesco N3 02.108 E101 36.880

Ok-..I suggest u to try the others in Puchong especially Kungfu BKT & Dragon View....ample parking there....& not so crowded...I feel Kungfu sometime better than Yap Chuan but dunno why less crowd...probably ppl can't accept the slightly more expensive pricing..Sumore both restaurants air-conned!! biggrin.gif Dragon View soup having thick herbal taste...not bad..& Kungfu BKT dried BKT I think better than Yap Chuan hmm.gif

Subang Jaya famous one located at SS14..there are 3 there i.e Ah Ping, Chuan Chew & Yu Kee...The last I tried Chuan Chew so-so only

There is another "Klang Under-the bridge" -Seng Huat located at Taipan USJ opened by the sister/relative to the BKT inventor of Malaysia...but biz no good..not sure whether they are still there hmm.gif

Nearby at Sunway, there is another luxury setting BKT If I'm not mistaken Grandpa hmm.gif

coming to think of it the chuan chew servit is pretty good.

i shall try yu kee then.

Seng Huat's BKT not like the usual claypot ones. not really outstanding I'd say.

http://j2kfm.blogspot.com/2008/12/seng-hua...ang-one-of.html

but I like Teluk Pulai BKT, the rice and BKT combination, perfect!

http://j2kfm.blogspot.com/2008/08/klangs-f...ak-kut-teh.html

Yap Beng dry one VERY good. soup one .... so-so. but also crowded on weekends n public hols morning.

Tnx Putraskyline ..Whoaa u also interested in this-kah? brows.gif

Indirectly also bumping the old thread by way of merging. For Klang there are 3 types of BKT. i.e The plain original BKT that consist only the meat either wth bones or wth 3layer meat. The 2nd type is the claypot type introduced in Teluk Pulai, thus the name Teluk Pulai. & the 3rd dry type. I think also started in Klang.

The original plain BKT which started it all at the Klang under the bridge BKT or Seng Huat BKT is here:
http://wikimapia.org/#lat=3.0425973&lon=10...=16&l=0&m=m&v=2

The original Teluk Pulai BKT that start it all is here (Middle one ho, not the one as per Wikimapia box):
http://wikimapia.org/#lat=3.0401545&lon=10...=16&l=0&m=m&v=2

The dry type...dunno who start first but for sure the best dry BKT should be the same Yap Chuan (Bt 14 Puchong)/Yap Beng (Equine Park) & the branch located at Bdr Baru Klang here:
http://wikimapia.org/#lat=3.0635102&lon=10...=17&l=0&m=m&v=2

And those so-so but mistakenly thought are the original Klang BKT located at Jln Batai area of Klang (Those fella working in Shah Alam & Subang Jaya luv to come here during the Friday 2.5hr breaks:
http://wikimapia.org/#lat=3.0562679&lon=10...=16&l=0&m=m&v=2

The original under the bridge is easier to find parking so do the Teluk Pulai one. Those in the Bdr Baru & Opposite at Jln Batai area are commercial centre & as usual-lah lotsa double parking & etc...

Ban Lee BKT, morning and evening 100% different people.

KL area

I prefer Kam Tuck @ Kepong Indah for morning session (the best in KL for me). Another choices in the morning, Suang Hei @ Imbi / Jln Ipoh near to CHKL (operate by Ban Li's uncle)..

At night 3 choices, Ka Ka at Kepong or Ban Li at Jln Ipoh, San Fund @ imbi

Hmmmm.. Alright. I heard a lot of review saying that people are very stingy on their soup in klang (ie Teluk Pulai). Meaning we can't ask for extra like how we do in Subang? Never go Klang for BKT before. sorry for the lack of knowledge question. cheers!

This Shun Huat Bah kut Teh located at Bdr Puteri puchong: N3 01.433 E101 36.962. Already existed after the closure of Ayam Bing..But I din know their existence bcos lack of advert & also the huge chinese logo (me banana blush.gif )

Today I tried liao without knowing what to expect & also thei biz not as great...Was told they are the branch of the famous JB Soong Huat Bah Kut Teh & having few branches in JB & Melaka too.. & this is the original "clear type" Southern bah Kut Teh (Sinjiapor punya kah??)..Google for the JB HQ found this one by my fellow MFM kawan here:

http://j-travel.blogspot.com/2009/04/soong...taman-desa.html
& here
http://www.foodpoi.com/2008/07/restoran-so...at-bak-kut-teh/

My review..Well they dun have the same klang BKT strong herbal smell..Just a plain clear brownish soup & from the pics menu, saw 4 types of ingredients i.e Cinnamon, bunga cengkih, garlic & gingeng root. Totally diff from Klang wan! It;s been ages since I last try Melaka clear soup BKT, so it's another wow to me after boring tasting all the dark herbal BKT in klang Valley...+ their Kiam Chai (Salted vege) is good too.. thumbup.gif

Recommended this for those wanting something diff from Klang BKT thumbup.gif

user posted image

BTW...It's also suprisingly cheaper than other Klang style BKT too..Only RM6.50 per pax and medium pot only RM13... smile.gif

Firstly i not a fan of "dry" bak kut teh, so i nver bothered. But today decided to go and see Mo San Kor since they branched out to Puchong (opened 16 Jan 2010)

Shop is airy, and offers a variety of tea leaves.

When I there the guy told me : No kah wan, nui kut, etc... gosh like that eat wat wor..

no choice, i settled for Pai Kut and Pun Fei Sau.

I have to say, gravy is thick and flavourful (i find it a bit thick to drink)
Dun even try to ask for additional sup, even Axian kenot get.
But the meat, is tender and tasty. Seriosly, this is well cooked meat. The pai kut meat is usually tough but this one is nice and tender.

user posted image

Rm9.50 per portion is a little expense, but the meat is A+.

Also recently discovered an AMAZING dry one at Teck Kee Bakuteh, Subang Permai. I reviewed it Here

just tried ah her BKT few hours ago, reach there be4 5PM, when customers are there

then at around 5.05PM they start serving, and after 1 minute ordering, it came! muhahaha

easily the best soup BKT i ate before, totally cure my 1 year ++ cravings of BKT where there's absolutely no good BKT in my hometown (not even 1% close)

i and my gf order 4 bowl, 1 small bone, 1 big bone, 1 bah kut and 1 chicken feet

seriously nice. Order 1 extra rice with soup

the rice and soup is just gooding, but i am actually quite disappointed with their meat especially their bah kut....

hmm..

saw and gona go mo sang kor on christmas day early morning...hehe

i think cos mostly now its all cooked by foreigners... and it is quite a norm for them to eat sweeter or saltier than we Msians eat it.

KLian kenot stand the clear soup less herbs BKT of the South. There was once I tried the JB branch of famous clear soup BKT in Bdr Puteri (I think SH or Soon Huat or something) Only one tabel ..Actually not bad bcos diff taste due to additional ginseng/pow sang added in but too bad as not to KLian taste, the restaurant eventually closed.

is johor bak kut teh the same as singapore bak kut teh? clear soup with lots of pepper; no herbs. I think a lot of johor dishes are similar to singapore dishes to cater to singaporeans

Klang bkt ftw!

If very basic environment is OK, then two interesting places near Chow Kit.

Packed coffee shop open until wee hours on weekends, left side of Jalan Raja Laut behind bus stand, before Old Town Coffee. Tender pieces, strong flavour.

Downhill the next alley on the left, into Tiong Nam, street stall run by friendly couple, photos of Chinese stars who have eaten there. Full range, soup, soy sauce meat, veggies, onion rice.

Hey guys... dunno whether you tried the bkt nearby pasaraya umarani before. they opened in the morning only... But quite nice. I first tasted it during CNY. the location is heading to kepong at jalan ipoh, turn right into the umarani direction, keep to the left and on the left.

yea...Chow kit got 2 quite famous ones... The Mungo Jerry I mentioned above (the same roll as public bank where u see ppl eating all over) and another one interviewed by ho chiak before... The latter locates on a corner downhill from the road beside Old Town White Coffee. I prefer Mungo jerry personally, that stall had been famous for past 10 years and both stalls operate at night only. Theres another famous dish (not bak kut teh) which is famous in nearby chow kit (tiong nam to be exact) call the ong lai fish head noodle. Can try it if you like fish head noodle.

not really man. i go to the pavilion KL one, 2 bowls bkt + rice + tea + vege + you tiao = rm50+

compare to last week i go teluk pulai BKT in klang, 2 ppl bkt + rice + tea + vege = rm50 exactly.

so effectively no difference in price ler.

whooaaa RM50 for 2 in klang? Crazy meh..Anyway the Tlk Pulai BKT nowadays all failed liao, The crowds also lesser..

Usually the current market price is RM10.50 for wet & RM11 for dry...Well inflation again! B4 CNY it was RM9.50/RM10, prior to this, RM8/RM9...This is at Puchong Yap Chuan..Still remained the best. and much better than those in Klang

That Puchong Yap Chuan sometime suffered from Quality problem too..Depending the time of the day you visit them.

If you're the 1st customer when they opened for biz ~ 9am..Better dun. I tried once..really horrible...

If abit later let say ~ 2pm also no good bcos they diluted the liew. Similarlyu during nite also no gooding wan

The best time is when the restaurant really crowded and the taste of BKT still boiling since Morning..probably ~ 12pm. So far the best timing

So what bad reviews you heard about klang BKT?
Have you been to Klang to eat BKT before first or not? If you haven't then please shh. wink.gif

maxcjs memang like that one, very easy butthurt one.

anyway, I've tried Klang Bak Kut Teh, not bad. If you want to eat nice BKT in Klang you need to go where all the apeks go. Don't go where the crowd goes. Teluk Pulai BKT got 3-4 stalls, you need to get the correct one.

Posting bout your sentiments once is good enough. Saying the same thing over and over and over again is spamming. Nothing to do with BKT. And have you even notice what you're saying? You discredited yourself.

hell yeah! I follow apeks too! Klang, Puchong, Kepong, Cheras, behind this alley, behind that lorong, this road, that road, I tried lotsa bad BKT. I went to try Teluk Pulai's BKT, the 'original' Klang BKT. I didn't like it cos I had to wait too long on a Saturday morning for a table and it wasn't salty. I'm bias cos I was hungry yet no table; the awesome aroma was beginning to grate on my nerve cos I had to wait; it was 7.30am and I'm not a morning person. and oh, I like my food salty.

K, here's the thing bout the Klang BKT 'under the bridge'. I went there at 10am and while makan, a worker came to clean the table next to ours. He had this bucket where he threw the leftovers in and another bucket for dirty plates/bowls/etc. While cleaning, the owner's wife came to him and scolded him saying, in hokkien, "this still got meat! how can you throw them away!" Then she proceeded to take the 'meat' in a used bowl to the kitchen. shocking.gif I don't know what she intend to do with them but I don't want to find out. I never went back there.

I like the one in Teluk Gadong. Went a few times but always didn't manage to catch the right time. Right time means no tempat makan, and that's 8am. I ate at 8.45 and everyday-apek there told me to come at 8, when the soup is just right. Anyone heard of it? Plenty of stray dogs wait around to catch some bones.

And another, my uncle said there's one somewhere in midvalley's alley, the meat is so so, soup is so so, but the intestines is yum-yum. I cannot confirm cos I haven't got a chance to ask my uncle the exact location and it's been a year plus since he said it. But he said the intestine had been fitted with so many layers. Has anyone heard of this?

Edit: Places I visit usually are old buildings and most of them have icky-looking kitchens and no rats in plain sight.

You know why? Cause there are like a zillion BKT shops in Klang. Does everyone know where to go for BKT in Klang?
Most of them are commercialized cause people like you from outside of Klang will just come to Klang and assume all BKT are nice.
You have to know which shop to go to. And find the one that suits your taste.

Yes, Klang is one of the dirtiest town ever. But if you haven't had BKT there before, then please go try at least once. Then only go and compare with your Puchong one.

Most of the tastiest food are from those type of back lane stalls. wink.gif

Just had BKT at Ah Ping at SS14 just now. Used to be better.

Oh btw, I did browse back on all the pages. And I found that your comment is the first one who say that Klang BKT is not nice. So I guess the number of ppl commenting on Klang BKT being not nice is like one only.

And Mo Sang Kor in Port Klang usually finishes by 8am.
Last time I reach around 8.20am on a weekday. Was already the bottom of the pot and not much nice meat. It seems people start eating at 5.30am there. sweat.gif

As for Fei Kei, you guys have to see you go for the morning one or the night one. Some say the night soup is better, and morning dry is better. To me same taste lol.

Mo Sang Kor & Pao Shiang now having so many branches dy. Not only in Pandamaran or Berkeley. They hv branches in Puchong, Lot 10, Cheras & more. I hv tried Mosang Kor & Pao Shiang in Puchong. - MSK meat very soft & tender & thick soup yummy but really kiamsiap when comes to soup. Pao Shiang - My 1st & last there..

Well, when comes to BKT, the problems of them actaually manitaining the taste consistently throughtout the day. Even Yap Chuan of Puchong also suffered quality problem esp their soup based BKT..If wrong timing, the soup either no taste (Early Morning) or not thick esp after 2pm (Suspect adding new base/soup)...So really depending of timing.

Similarly, The time I visited the Tlk Pulai (The ori) or even Fei Kay, chances probably I visited at the wrong timing kua? I visited Mo Sang kor in Pandamaran once years back ~ 11am. Once I parked & walked in, the auntie will shout from far Bor Liao...damn...Lucky I managed to tried their Puchong branch haha..well still cheaper than Hutong Lot 10 for sure

ya, I agree with soup consistency. But if they don't change the soup base, the soup taste would be... off. Like how fuchuk with meat in claypot and meat in a bowl, fuchuk in another. Meat with soup has a better taste than fuchuk with meat and soup. gotta have them in separate bowls.

Anybody for intestine? laugh.gif and no news bout the one in teluk gadong and midvalley? teluk gadong is very close to teluk pulai's "ori"... probably 5km apart? less than 5mins by car.

eh i just went to pao xiang puchong branch for dinner (actually was looking for pizza uno cos i ketagih anchovy pizza but couldn't find it, so bkt lor).

the soup is totally different from the pao xiang i ate in pavilion. the soup in pavilion more "soupy" and light brown, the puchong one was more "gravy/saucy" and closer to black.

price also big diff, pavilion is rm30/pax, puching rm20/pax.

Hi deo...

wa... if you eat at Pao Xiang,Klang (Berkeley Garden)...it's about rm9.50/pax.
and if lucky, can still get the "tuar kut" - big bone...
of course, their policy is "limited soup" ...

I'm salute you still can come to this thread and discuss BKT. Hahaha. Most of my friends are like "NOOOO Don't talk about meat with me, especially BKT".

10-11am usually most 'nice' and popular BKT shops will be out of BKT edi leh.

I'm salute you still can come to this thread and discuss BKT. Hahaha. Most of my friends are like "NOOOO Don't talk about meat with me, especially BKT".

yeah, but falling off the wagon soon. Was watching AFC when I stumbled into food and flavours and into BKT. Singaporean reviewing bout their version of BKT. White peppery base soup. My appetite was gone just like that. cos he kinds snubbed Malaysia's BKT. Have you seen Black BKT soup with chinese tea spilled into it on your plate? You'll see whitish... swirls like lipids? That' what I saw on tv for Singaporean BKT. Look unappetizing. But peppery soup... *slurp*

but to get to klang at 8, one must get up at 6 something, start driving at 7... my bf loves bkt. Was thinking of taking him to some places. There was one in Pandamaran called "Tuah Pui Kow" years ago, then they moved. I followed them, and they have night BKT by their son. That one was great at first, then it was inconsistent, some days bland, some days great. Now the night BKT is closed entirely. I dunno bout mornings anymore cos I went to the one in teluk gadong. You guys knows which? erm... along persiaran raja muda musa, there's a continental tyre shop, turn right and straight to the end of the road, then you'll come to another row of shop houses. It's along row but I dunno kedai name, I just know I have to cari parking.

Suggest the best for nite Bak Kut Teh in Klang is Pao Xiang in Berkeley Garden.
It's open till 9.30pm... not too crowded during nights...and at the same row, further down, you can try the popular Fatty Mee Hoon Kueh... and plenty of durian stall around Berkeley Gdn too.... man, sure put on weight!

Hmm my friend brought me to eat long long time ago. White pepper base soup, with meat and also those peanuts (already soft after boiling long time). Can't remember where, I think some roadside stall near/around Petaling Street. Already lupa the taste though, ha ha.

I'm a BKT fan, come in just share my opinion.

As you move west from KL towards Klang, the taste of BKT gets thicker, darker and more aromatic. BKT in Subang Jaya is more for health conscious minded people, not thick nor thin and average aromatic. Sg Buluh used to be good but still ok.

Not all BKT in Klang is good. Top three BKT in Klang are Sami, Ah Her and Mor Sang Kor. You find that they do not offer other things like mushroom, fu shok, etc. Just plain meat, the original way. They believe claypot takes away the aroma, they serve in bowl.

My personal favorite is Sami, serving til afternoon, the taste is balanced. Not too thick. Got depth. Meat is tender and juicy. Never feel thirsty after BKT. Ah Her serves from 530pm and normally finished at 700pm. Soup is tasty but offer very little volume, only 3 spoons. Meat is as good. 8TV aired Ah Her in Ho Chak last week. Mor Sang Kor is the thickest of all. The soup is almost like gravy. Strongest taste of all. My friend says it is mouth watering with fat meat. The fat melts like ice cream in your mouth. Bad for health though.

Others worth mentioned are Ah Kiat BKT (lunch session) in Bkt Tinggi lesser known, very nice soup. Kei Hiong, the relatives of the BKT founder. A little too much MSG. Teluk Pulai BKT in Sg Rasah has generous volume, taste is average. Its neighboring BKT taste better.

No wonder, Klangite has the highest number of heart disease. BKT all the way.

I have observed that since beginning of this year, Klang BKT are branching out from Klang beginnig with Bao Xiang, they are famous for thread tie meat. They believed that it will help preserve the "bite" of the meat. Not too soggy.

Personally, I would not want to take BKT else where than Klang because they do not satisfied me. I got to to Klang to eat the real stuff.

I seriously doubt anyone here would be able to tell you how to do that. I mean, there's tons of 'klang style' bkt shops in KL/PJ that absolutely suck ass - if the commercial guys also cannot, us home people are doomed, no?

i know how to cook 'newbie' BKT (i.e. from packet herbs), but klang style? don't even know where to begin.

smile.gif Pao Xiang with the tied meat already has a branch here in Bdr. Mahkota Cheras. They don't seem to do well here though. One characteristics of people here in Bdr. Mahkota Cheras and Sungai Long is their first priority is CHEAP! laugh.gif . Taste comes second and if you have another who is cheap and also good then all the others are doomed ! ohmy.gif

Hmm. Somehow the peppery soup doesn't sound tasty to me. Cause I don't like pepper. Hhaha.

Try going for night BKT dinners then. No need to wake up so early lor.

Ask those restaurant owners! tongue.gif
I think it is quite hard to do it, or else there won't be so many BKT shops around Klang.

Most of the BKT shops in Klang also have their own packet BKT. Where you just add the ingredients into your homemade BKT to get the taste. I know Mo Sang Kor and the BKT shop next to A1 tuition center in Eng Ann has it.

IMO if you use sachets like A1 to cook BKT it is quite nice already. Use good quality soya sauce though. Although the taste won't be as good as those good BKT operators but it is also better than a lot of BKT operatorss laugh.gif . Most famous BKT operators concoct their own combination of herbs. Even now if you ask the inventor of BKT (the fisherman from Klang), his concoction won't even come near those who have perfected their flavour. If you were to go into a chinese medicine shop, the shop keeper can pick out every herbal ingredient but in the wrong proportions. The secret is also not only the proportions but also how they treat their meat, the hours taken and off course their judgements which is singularly the hardest or even impossible to imitate.

If I were to cook my own I use A1 sachets too but I usually buy extra pork bones (you can buy the cheaper ribs if you are willing to spend more) to enrich the soup base other than the meats themself. The most important in any soup based dishes is the soup stock, it has to be rich, really rich. In a household consumption, the amount of meat you cook can never reach the richness of the stock base in a BKT operators stall because they use almost half a pig. laugh.gif

The corner shop (same row as San May King lam mee) in Pudu market, I alway pass by when I was still a food operator buying supplies from Pudu market in the wee hours of the morning, the smell is heavenly. I saw this big heap of pork on the table, how can we ever imitate the taste. Imagine, my guess is it almost 80 kgs to 100 kgs of pork on that table. I tried the BKT once, the soup was the clear type but heavy in flavour thumbup.gif

I luv the clear type & heavy in flavour. And yes the use of good quality soya sauce is essential to bring out the aroma.
Beside A1, we prefer Wing Heong Food pre-packed BKT herb at Jln Padang Walter Grenier, KL.

I have been taken to this Teluk Pulai BKT at 3.05622N, 101.47427E a couple of times. Is that considered one of the better ones because I find it OK only.

In fact, I find the one opposite Federal Hotel (now close shop already) better.

No those surrounding that location so-so only. The name is a copycat general name for the original place of Claypot style BKT i.e Teluk Pulai also in Klang. That area is Sg Rasau area. lotsa BKT there but none of them ORIGINAL.

The actual location of Teluk Pulai claypot style should be here: N3 02.419 E101 26.049 i.e Teluk Pulaim itself..There are ~ 3BKT there too..the one recommended is the ctr row..recommended also by Axian - Ah Tou BKT? - Anyway..all also having quality problem..sometime really good sometime so-so

If you fance the traditional without claypot style..the one under the bridge is the original..Seng Huat..The "Teh" is the surname of the past owner...

Now there is still hope because I was thinking to myself "How come the famed Klang BKT only so-so"? And yet different people have been bringing me there so I thought this must be the best. Ha. I should hang out at LYT more often.

So what is the coordinate of this Seng Huat or whatever that's supposed to be the orginal?

Actually I prefer it to be in a bowl. The ones in claypot burns your taste bud (too hot), after that can taste the chilly only. laugh.gif Claypots cannot be washed with soap too, only rinsed with water. laugh.gif

when stimix says 'plain bkt in a bowl,' what he really means is the shop serves you two things: 1. bkt 2. rice.

EVERYTHING ELSE you gotta bring yourself. that includes chili, you tiao, sauce, toufupok, whatever you feel like eating with your bkt.

I was waiting to pick up my wife and had time to spare, so me and daughter saw this nicely renovated BKT outlet named 'Wing Heong' behind the Jayajusco Cheras Selatan. I don't know if they are the same store as Klang's Weng Heong or the Wing Heong on some BKT herb packing. My daughter had a pang for BKT so we sat down and a shocking.gif Myanmarese came and waited on us. I am a 'banana' but if I concentrate on what are you saying I can grasp the "ser puu ser' that you are dishing out but this Myanmarese girl is speaking like a whole table of stainless steel plates has fell on the floor. rclxub.gif I gave up and asked my daughter to order.

She ordered a normal soup one and also a stewed one (dry). The soup version soup's tasted OK but I prefer a stronger herbal taste but the meat being boiled for too long made the meat tasteless, just like those meats that's in the double boiled soup, soft and tasteless! sad.gif The stewed one is actually a misnomer. The dish has no similarities at all to 'Bak Kut Teh". There's no resemblence at all to the herbal taste of BKT. They should be describe something else but not dry BKT. When they say "dry" they don't mince their words, the dish came dry like 'kai see'.

rclxub.gif Another point made me dissapointed is they don't serve the rice it in a bowl but on a plate taken with fork and spoon. No fun liao! blush.gif I like my rice all soaked in BKT soup like porridge drool.gif but I can't do it here. Give me the old version where after eating there are bowls all over the table and I don't really fancy claypot too. One thing though, BKT is getting to be an expensive fare as for this meal, it cost us RM35.00 for two and even that we didn't order greens or 'tau foo pok' and only 2 iced chinese tea. sad.gif

Teluk Pulai BKT in klang charged me and my gf rm50 for tea, bkt for 2 pax, 1 vege. damn expensive liao sad.gif

Anyways I still haven't tried the famous under the bridge, but went to a nearby shop where got one old man in an old run down shop - Teck Teh. Thought it was better than teluk pulai or fong keow bkt's. story here if you want otherwise pictuars below!

Yea. That's true. But you can ask them nicely for bowl and chopsticks and they'll give you.

Once I brought my kelantan friend to klang for BKT. She was so surprise that we use fork and spoon to eat. tongue.gif

Most of the BKT in klang are open at night. Heck, most of Klang BKT open all day long wan. You can eat BKT at 2 in the afternoon, what I did yesterday. tongue.gif
Just those more popular like Mo Sang Kor have certain opening time.

yeah..they are famous around Kepong for their BKT. However, I have tried them and I must say my impression is not good with them.

The taste is above average. There are other BKT that is better than them. The problem I have with them is their plates didn't wash properly. Still very oily. For me when it comes to food, being delicious is not the only factor. There are lots of other things like the service and price and so on.

smile.gif I tried the Wing Heong in Cheras Selatan. He operates the car wash and polishing behind the shop also laugh.gif Funny combination though. I don't find it nice at all especially the dry one. Too dry if you ask me. The meat becomes tasteless when it becomes too dry. In that area, I rather have the BKT in 11th mile Cheras just behind Am Bank. Better tasting BKT, old skool type. Heavy tasting soup thumbup.gif

Wondering whether this Wing Heong is the same branch as Klang & bdr Puteri Puchong or not?

BTW, Mous Sang Kor in Bdr Puteri change ownership and restaurant also change name liao...Well, they only can survive in Pandamaran & Hutong Lot10..Elsewhere, their style not really appriated...really reminded me of the similar style Klang under the bridge Seng Huat BKT. opened a branch in Taipan USJ but biz so bad and closed years later

I was browsing through Hutong Lot 10 the other day. I fancied nothing there so opted for a 'bubur cha cha' as the operator was canvassing us when we walked by. I see many other stalls also canvassing. I think business also dropped liao for most of the stalls there. I thought all the stalls are famous outlets and hand picked but I see a number that I have never heard before. Anyone remembered that there was also the famous Petaling St. 'lo hon korr' drink there or was I mistaken?

This guy sells a lot. every morning at 5.00 am I see the pork on the table. It is almost half a pig and that's one day supply. What I like about his is his soup is clear and very strong flavour, BKT flavour. I ate once and I liked it but too bad he sells morning and I don't really like heavy breakfast.

What I miss is the simplilistic meal of BKT unlike nowadays which is too varied. You have this famous one for this type and this famous one for that type. Everyonehas an idea of how it should be done and served. I always remembered when I was a young chap, I like to patronise the stall just beside Apollo Hotel in Bukit Bintang. It was still a coffeeshop then. After eating you see bowls all over, 2 for rice, 1 for the BKT, 1 for taufupok, 1 for 'yau cha kwai' and the chilly plate. All for a mere RM5.00 then. Another favourite was in Jalan Pasar right on the sidewalk of Chartered Bank. Simple is better. Then those days the herbs are very much cheaper than nowadays and they don't skimp like nowadays.

Has our expectations changed or the taste has evolved or the herbs have gradually changed in flavours? My personal opinion is I don't really liked claypot types, too hot for my liking. Burns your tongue at the first taste and that spoils everything. smile.gif

dry BKT is not BKT, its tau yiu bak laugh.gif

Personal preference is Ah Heh in Pandamaran area. open around 6pm. Nice balance of flavors between the soup and rice. Go early and order the choice cuts.

Home made ah, go to Klangs chinese herbal shop and ask. With that Good Luck.

Just curious are the pork meat and intestines properly clean before it is thrown into the big pot to cook? What I heard from the elderly that the pork intestine is exceptionally hard to cleanse and have many steps before it can put into our mouth for enjoyment. Any Bat Kut Teh expert to share your thoughts? Thanks!:)

What do you mean 2 or 3 layer of intestine? It has different level? Because I'm a pescetarian lacto-ovo vegetarian so don't know the taste of it. There is a lot to talk about when come to Bat Kut Teh among my friends. They just love it. Wonder how it taste like actually....

I rather not eat all these fake stuff as it contains lots of artificial flavour. If one wants to become vegan, should go for pure veg and not fake meat. The other day, I saw menu at vege restaurant got Dong Po Meat. Can even got a choice of fat or lean meat shocking.gif

I rather not eat all these fake stuff as it contains lots of artificial flavour. If one wants to become vegan, should go for pure veg and not fake meat. The other day, I saw menu at vege restaurant got Dong Po Meat. Can even got a choice of fat or lean meat  shocking.gif
*
Normally I'll eat in Organic Restaurant and when order Bat Kut Teh I request only vegetables and tofu. No flour-made-like meat. Can be quite fattening to certain extend. Vegan is different bro. Vegan is very strict. Cannot even use leather goods. You cannot simply say those stuff is not good or fake stuff. Not good to read and can be offensive for some readers here. They just want to add some creativeness because be a vegetarian like myself can be very plain some times.

Peace..

imo discussing bakuteh with a vegetarian is the same as discussing it with a muslim. both also cannot eat good one ... how to describe other than to say "it's delicious?"

this true. if boil any soup, not only bkt soup. if boil with chicken will taste different than if boil with pork.
pork if take boil soup is taste better and sweeter. works for soup based thing like steamboat also not only for bkt.

if u boil with pork got extra oomph and flavoring. if u eat steamboat with just dip dip chicken only will not have the oomph when u dip dip pork.

"You Tiao" - A must have but it is optional for you. You can request the waiter or waitress to remove it for you.

Here comes the main course! Big eh for 2 pax? You can choose types of parts you want. Fatty meat, non-fatty meat, belly and intestines. I chose all except the fatty meat because the bakuteh itself already producing high cholesterol so better do not add more sin into your body.

Ambiance: 2/5

I went Puchong Yap Chuan Bah Kut Teh few times, i decided not to go anymore because:

1) ordered 2 person portions but very less meat provided. (Imagine the meat can count by fingers)
2) It is not "traditional" bah kut teh serving like Klang's type. Yap Chuan Bah Kut Teh only have pork, and fu chok, then no more... even a piece of vegetable..
3) No doubt they serve better taste at dry one but.. same, the pork very less.
4) Order big rice, but the portion given is like small rice.

A no no for me again to visit them. Not worth the price. shakehead.gif shakehead.gif Klang the best smile.gif

The traditional type Klang BKT such as Seng Huat, Mo Sang Kor & Piao Xiang now not so heng liao lah...Even you see Seng Huat which started the Klang style already switched to Tlk Pulai Claypot style liao...

Time changed and now ppl go for Teluk Pulai style...probably coming future..JB/S'pore clear BKT pulak haha

Anyway, on the meat portion getting small, I hv to agree wth you..When they started years ago in Puchong, they have the biggest meat portion but now getting smaller and price getting expensive..Started at RM6.50 or RM7 years ago if I still can recall..now..RM10.50 liao

Plus, anything to do in the evening to kill time because flight only next morning.

Thanks in advance.

Correct?

I don't have the touch screen version of Garmin and my last encountered with a 'ahem' version that scanned positive with malware left me wary. I guess I will stick with Nokia with your help.

Yes correct. These two are comparable & even better than most Klang BKT esp the dry type. Both also from same family if I'm not mistaken. there are review by vkeong on both BKT here:

Thanks.

How about some wet BKT around that area? I guess I have enough time for 2 eating during the stop over.

They said Klang is the best but I have been to 3 3 22.395, 101 28 27392 but don't think much of it.

The Yap Chuan BKT soup base also superb. For me better than those in Klang. Yap Chuan won the King of BKT contest b4 years back FYI. They are actually from Sg Besar/Sekinchan side but moved to Puchong after winning the contest. They told me Axian recommended them to Puchong bcos of the boomig Puchong years ago haha. BTW, can't fig out the coordinate you gave me..haha

just went to eat kaka bkt...and same experience with first time. Taste is not bad but not great either. The problem I have with them is mostly to do with hygiene. The worker just simply pour water on the road side when clearing table. So the whole place have some rubbish and looks wet. They have the used plates and all placed outside. Can be smelly sometimes when a little windy. They should have relocated washing of dishes to the back of the restaurant.

7/10 for taste. Environment is 3/10. Overall 5/10.

kaka bkt in kepong is the best bkt i've ever tasted.
though beside the main road, what u could be smelling is also a mixture of dust, carbon dioxide and fumes from vehicles passing by.

but because of its superb bkt and excellent location, kaka bkt has a long que of people waiting to eat .

u know what they say, when there's a que, the food must be damn good.

No easy way to got to Yap chuan go further towards Putrajaya. thereafter look-out for Kampung Bahru Puchong/ Putra Perdana and turn left at that bt14 Interchange. From there you can see Klinik Kesihatan on your left and an ugly looking shoplots on the right.. Yap Chuan is right on the 1st right turn and facing the inner row of the shoploy - corner lot and facing Hero Hypermarket

i had the bak kut teh in one utama which is near the chinese herb n medicine at lower ground floor. anyone try and tasted it before ? i find it very good quality soup but the soup is very little. if i have to rate it for safety and comfort , i give it 4 stars. nowadays, it's better to find not only nice and good but safety concern as well.

Beware..Yap Chuan sometime also got quality prob wan certain day good certain day so-so..To play safe, dun go early in the morning but afternoon..wait till few rounds of cooking and the taste of the soup blended well. Anyway, they are famous more on their dry type
*
so they were not the best in wet bak kut teh. which one would u recommend for wet one. The dry one is not hard to make actually, even at home i can cook with dark soy sauce, honey, sesame oil etc.. so it's not one of a unique dishes to me. if we go for bak kut teh , it's the herbal soup and the tenderizing meat that soak for long hours together with it soup.

Trust your testimony, so Yap Chuan much better than the 2 Wing Heong ? Do you think MSG flavour is essential in bak kut teh.. I know some bak kut teh really has a lot of aji no moto until can feel mouth dehydration. I really don't like this kind of Bak Kut teh. Pao Xiang pass the test for not using lots of MSG to me.

yap chuan can only be found in puchong. the super chef there was a young chap who won many awards, so those awards speak for themselves. if you do not go to yap chuan puchong for bkt, you are just going to the wrong place for bkt.

Although Wing Heong very fames in Klang but those other branches out of Klang not doing very well inc Puchong. U should look at the crwod 1st...When they are new in Puchong not bad but biz really affected lately and thus..the volume of customers speak louder...If u see no crowd, you still wanna visit them?

Sorry my Malay friends. This is not something for you to see but it is so delicious for me to eat. RM10.00 per bowl inclusive rice and you tiau. I think is pretty reasonable.
Outlook: 4/5

Taste: 5/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 4/5 - Everything is very delicious to me here. The pork is fresh and the intestines are well cleaned. The soup is just superb. One bowl is never enough. I always refill at least 3 times for each of my visit here. However, the lady boss is not really like to refill your bowl more than once especially when she knows you are planning to drink the soup only.

Ambiance: 3/5

the soup pretty much dilute to me and lack of boiling looking at the color of the soup.

Added on February 21, 2012, 9:17 pmI try Yap Chuan wet BKT today and honestly speaking the BKT did taste pretty good to me but the soup i still prefer Pao Xiang probably because i like thickness of the soup . No doubt the herbs were boiled to attain the overall brown dark color which is promising. I asked for sau yoke and the meat is tenderizing , pass also.. only thing that fail is the YOu Tiau which is not crispy at all. i thought im going to get fresh crispy one but came out soft and overnight i guess. You Tiau must be served crispy or else it can't claim to be the best anymore.. sigh!

depend which area of the pork you order also lah.. if u like less fat and towards tender meat than u should order Sau Yoke. i went there again last night and i try the dry one and it's horrible. i don't know how why so many of you like it. The lady fingers spoil the whole meal.. it's like cum shot...
shakehead.gif

the wet one was alright in the beginning when it was hot.. it tasted good but towards the end one must know the different when served hot and when the soup gets colder, when it gets colder only our tongue begin to taste the bitter side of the herbs and that's how i know whether it deserve more points. overall it's 3/5. MSG quite a lot but can't tell which one the culprit or both because i order wet and dry. went home dehydrated.

I will still rank
Pao Xiang in One Utama No 1
Yap Chuan No 2.

i trust your instinct , so i went to golden view bkt behind tesco. the bkt soup is ok also and the you tiao is much more crispy than yap chuan because they use oven to maintain the heat. yap chuan fails to deliver this and they don't have you tiao at night but u can cross over the street , there
s a mini van selling you tiao claim to be the best too with ho chiak guys picture on his van. wink.gif

but hate to discover that some of this bkt shop like golden view have so limited thick dark soy and even i have to be interrupted to get my garlic and chilis back from other table while enjoying the meal..

For BKT lovers, can try Chuen Kee Restaurant in Setapak. It's along the main road just Opposite a new hospital (i think it's Columbia Hospital).
It serve the usual KL style BKT but it also has a version called "Sang Kuat" or Raw Pot.
For that, you need to call then up to book 1 hour b4 you arrive.
They will start to cook only when you have ordered. So all the ingredients are fresh.
You can request for a mixture of pork rib, trotters or any parts that you like to be cooked.

Recently notice soup based bak kut teh now has NEW 2 types.
Type 1 - Focus on traditional herbs.
Type 2 - Focus on the soy sauce.

I'm looking for those who still retain with the traditional herb soup one. The soy sauce type one feel like MSG soup to me.

Anyone know where still sell the traditional herb soup type one?

There are more than the 2 types that you mentioned biggrin.gif i.e:

- The original Klang BKT - Herbs, light brownish and served on a bowl rather than claypot (Klang Under the bridge/ Mo Sang Kor-Pandamaran) - Getting less & less (And answering your question earlier)
- The Teluk Pulai style- Claypot with mixed ingredients - Common BKT in Klang Valleys nowadays
- The Dry type- New type Also from klang - Also common nowadays

All the above originated from Klang and for Singaporean, they named it "Hokkien Style"

The white pepper style BKT - This wan claimed by Singaporean for sure and very popular in Southern M'sia - For Singaporean, this is what they called "Teochew BKT

Try Ming Wei @ 47, Jalan Batai Laut, Taman Intan/ Taman Rashna Klang. By ex-MSK chef, currently new & rebranded by him. Same old authentic traditional taste.

Hmm..last post here May 2013

Not in order of yumminess

Teluk Pulai BKT, first shop turning into the Teluk Pulai road, the middle shop i wont go cos its sorely lacking in hygiene.

Klang Town, behind Plaza Chi Liung (hope i got the building name right, anyway its the the tall building near the old bridge) , the shop across Maybank and the mamak shop.

Port Klang famous BKT still got no chance to go cos i heard hv to queue early and also finish early

Peace&Love

I'm from Klang, and I feel the best BKTs are the ones in old shops or simple shops selling BKT. Commercialized shops like Teluk Pulai and others tend to prepare too much in a day due to the crowds (who go there often due to internet exposure) and quality tend to lack (some even use premix BKT flavours to quicken service).

I like Ah Han BKT, quite hard to find but definitely recommended for those who wanna try old school homemade BKT. It's in a house (owner uses house compound for restaurant) at Pandamaran along between Jalan Sijangkang and Jalan Pandamaran 2.
Only open in morning and tend to finish by 9.30am. smile.gif smile.gif

I had BKT few days ago at Sunway but i forgot the shop name. Its the turning just before the Petron station to Sunway Pyramid. Opens the entire day if not mistaken and their style is more herbal based but still balanced.

You can try Le Xiang BKT (https://www.facebook.com/LeXiangBakKutTeh/). Just opened not long ago. But quite good - for both dry and soup style. And it's air-conditioned smile.gif

last night after smokin some dank plants at my friends place in Cheras, me and my mates had this amazeballs bak kut teh. So good swear to god, it's called Da De Bak Kut Teh, Cheras. We were attended to by a nice and friendly old lady

they have both dry style and the one with the traditional broth, and they're both worth checkin out.

Also, in Desa Sri Hartamas, there is another tip top Bak Kut Teh joint, same row as the Ducati showroom. They've mushrooms and everything
