hi. well, i have a problem and it's about my friend. she just found out that she has eczema. she didn't go to the doctor, she just knew cuz she said that she has a friend who has eczema and she made her own 'diagnosis' by relating the condition of her skin with the symptoms of eczema she read on the internet and by making mental comparison between her skin and her friend's eczema-ed skin.

thing is, she refuses to go to the clinic based on a reason - she doesn't like the idea of showing the eczema to the doc. shy maybe. ego maybe. i don't know. *sigh*

so is there any natural DIY treatment, or any cream that you could buy in phamacy that is to treat eczema? i've tried to persuade her in seeking doctors but it's just, useless. i feel sorry for her when she feels itchy, but couldn't scratch for afraid that it would make her skin worse. sad.gif

I honestly think that you should always see a doctor first then try alternative therapies. Eczema can also be caused by underlying health conditions that only the doctor can diagnose. Do persuade your friend to at least do a medical checkup

not so serious. the eczema, as she told me, is about the size of two 20 cent ceilings put together. and the itchiness occurs only once in a few days.

can you explain about the chinese traditional way?

it might be caused by several factors, still advisable to have a doctor diagnose it.

in the meanwhile, nystatin cream or cetrimide cream can be used.

Heya. I have light eczema too. I know that it's my fault too since I bath hot water all the time, even in the afternoon. Sometimes right after that, I go into an air conditioned room. Nothing happened after a few years, but one day I noticed dry skin and it would not go away.

My doctor recommended me Balneum lotion. So you could get the same for your friend but the thing is, there are 2 types of Balneum lotion. The normal one is sold at pharmacies around you but the one I'm using is a more intensive version so it happens to cost more. And I just can't seem to spot it anywhere. Guess it's dispensed by doctors only. Try the basic version and if it works you won't have to spend more on the intensive version.

And oh, I have no more eczema after that.

Hey previously over the years i suffer from eczema too...
There are few things i do notice after years of having eczema..
1) it itches whenever we sweat, so don't scratch it! ( try to wash it off with clean water and etc..)
2) we tend to scratch the spot with eczema subconciously! YES, like when im sleeping i tend to scratch the spot, and so i always wake up with blood all over my shirt.. shakehead.gif Well, i tried alot of ways to prevent myself from scratching myself, including tieing up both of my hands to the bed.. But it didn't turn out great.. laugh.gif
3) I tried alot of medicines and went through alot of treatments including chinese way western way and etc, juz to find that all of that barely worked.. Some even made my condition worse..

Surprisingly, my eczema healed on it's own when im off to 3 months NS training.. laugh.gif
Eczema-ers just be sure to keep the spot dry and clean at all times, and don't friggin scratch it cuz it'll make the condition even worse! Normally when u scratch till it bleeds, the wound will get bigger and bigger as you'll scratch it more than ever!~ nod.gif It'll eventually turn out to be ok in a few weeks i guess.. Hard to tell cuz i ain't no skin specialist or doctor.. Juz sharing my past experience.. nod.gif

TS, my advice to your friend should to go see doctor as earlier as possible if you have try any cream from the pharmacy but it's not working. please put down all the egos.. you don't want to stuck with eczema for a long long time.. as I have experience with eczema for 7 years!! yes, 7 years.. it's a long time.. i have used a lot of money and time.. I have used 4 years to cure my eczema.. Initially, my condition wasn't that bad, only my left hand had a small pot of eczema.. so i went to pharmacy and bought some brand of cream for eczema. after applied it, it gets better but after some time, it got worse until both hands got affected. I had used different types of creams for eczema from pharmacy, but they are useless.. so ended up, i went to a skin specialist... and went through all the treatment for this eczema..
The doctor told me, if you have apply any cream for the eczema for sometime and it's not working.. don't continue apply it, as it might not suitable..
Lastly, start the treatment when it isn't that serious... otherwise you will cry if your eczema gets worse coz those treatment are nightmare..

Ask her to ask the pharmacist then?

My gut feeling is that if she wants something effective (like betamethasone.. damn that cream's like magic), she's going to have to get a prescription. From a doctor. Still don't want to? What can I say, it's her choice if she wants to prolong her suffering.

Can try taking fish oil.

http://www.evitamins.com/healthnotes.asp?ContentID=1209007

http://newbeingnutrition.com/wordpress/sca...a-and-fish-oil/

QUOTE
How Can Fish Oil Help Your Scalp Eczema?

Omega-3 fish oil can help your scalp eczema because of its essential fatty acids (EFAs) content, especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

Clinical trials have shown that taking omega-3 fish oil supplements can significantly reduce the symptoms associated with eczema after a 12 week period.

Omega-3 fish oil is believed to reduce the symptoms associated with eczema because it helps to reduce the levels of a substance called leukotriene B4.

Leukotriene B4 is known to promote eczema.

I am suffering from eczema as well. I could not believe this when the doctor told me that I am suffering from eczema. And the sad things is the skin specialist straight away informed me that it is unable to be cure and I will have eczema for whole life... shakehead.gif sweat.gif

That time, I felt sad like almost dying soon... sweat.gif

I did tried chinese herb and went for Chinese sensei and spent about RM400-500 per month, drinking 2 packs of dark smelly herbs everyday...that is really suffer man..

Now it has been reduced gradually after I changed my lifestyle. Sleep early, exercise, less stress...
I have stayed away from alcohol, cigarette, coffee, fried and spicy food for some period of time.

yeah.. eczema is not easy to cure but there's a way to do it.. i'm a example.. it will continuously come back or spreading when the spot of eczema when it's recovering, this is because under your skin the bacterial is spreading.. you need to fully kill all the bacterial under your skin to cure your eczema.. this is the treatment which i did past few years.. if you experienced for few years with eczema but it's getting worse, you can ask your specialist write you a letter for GH's skin specialist. I did my eczema treatment in GH's specialist for 4-5 years.. it's another option for you if you want..
initially, my ezcema was treated by my house doctor until 2-3 years, he had give-up and recommended me to GH's skin specialist.

it's full recovery, but the treatment is killing ppl.. but it's takes time.. i still can remember those white cream i need to apply to whole body after bath.. and i only allowed to take only one bath time per day.. those white cream made my skin very pain... that's the most painful treatment i ever had...

i think it's because NS requires you to do a lot of physical activities. probably it is treated naturally because of that? even minor exercise like jogging is healthy, so... ehehe. smile.gif

like many have already said, your friend should visit a dermatologist.
if her condition is as described, her eczema doesn't seem to be that serious. still concentrated on a few spots only and not spread out to her whole body yet and it doesn't itch everyday. even my condition (i've eczema all over my two legs and elbows, itches everyday) is not considered that serious for doctors.
ask her to apply moisturizer a few times a day for a period of time. maybe it's just dry skin and not really eczema. it takes a lot of patience but it can be cured. it's not a hopeless case.
good luck in helping your friend. smile.gif

Apply Clobetasol ointment on the affected area as frequent as possible to relief the intching. In severe cases you'll need antihistaminics.

It might not be eczema, it's very hard to distinguish eczema from a fungal or viral infection or just some simple allergies.

I thought I had herpetic whitlow on my fingers and I tried acyclovir cream for 6 months and t's not working, then I went to a skin doctor and found out it's just eczema and gave me the antihistaminic medication and I'm now eczema free biggrin.gif

But anyway, it's best to go to a skin doctor. General hospitals have really good doctors and I think she should give it a try.
