The Vatican Treaty was never mentioned in the TV series at all. Asuka's EVA was never put into cold storage to make way for a new EVA (Toji's) in the series.

i guess this was put into the script because this time around anno dont want to make toji a pilot, and a reason to put asuka out of action during zeruel's-the angel that defeats mari attacks, so mari can use unit 02 and shows us ze besto mode.

Original TV series only had EVA's up to 04. 00, 01, 02 are the usual suspects, 03 evaporized in an S2 experiment, 04 turned in to an Angel. 05-13 was mentioned but only appeared in EoE as the mass-production types.

So yes, this time, there's more Eva's (thanks to bigger budget). Not sure if the mass-production types will make another appearance. 08 kinda reminds me of an mobile armor, LOL.

IINM, the series had its ending with the instrumentality project and all the clapping hands bullshit. EoE was another ending clobbered together after fans complained.

Man, just remembering the slideshow of doom of episode 25(or was it another one?) was horrifying. Just seeing Asuka showing memories every 2-4 minutes repeatedly for 20 minutes was just..........what.

Now if what Kuro said of the day of the gathering ever happened, where Shaft does those last 2 episodes of the original Eva, that'd be even worse........

Not really. EoE and 25-26 can be said as complementary, but also contradictory. The verdict is still out on that one, until such time Anno confirms it.

We'll see how 3.0 and 4.0 wrap things up.

There was no Vatican treaty in the series. And NOT ALL Eva Series was completed in time, hence the limited ones you see at the End of Evangelion. Seelee had no choice since Gendou is pushing for his own agendaIf you watched the director's cut of the series, at the end of episode 24 the preview showed Unit 02 fighting the Eva series, instead of the aired ep 25. And I think in ep26 a brief scene of a dying Misato (who was shot saving Shinji during EoE) was shown. Thus you can say that EoE WAS the original ending for the series planned by Anno, just that he changed it due to budget constraint.

Yeah, kinda depends on how you really want to interpret it.

I'm actually quite a fan of the complementary theory, but the contradictory theory has some strong proofs to back them up as well. Verdict's really still out there in Anno's minds.

But really, it's this ambiguity that has led to Eva's popularity.

Nothing wrong in both. Heck, for me, EoE and ep 25/26 goes hand in hand if you watch them together. I mean the "omedetou" scene can be said to be the souls praising Shinji for rejecting Instrumentality. In the end, which makes more sense to you, that's your ending.

If Tomino were to direct the next EVA movie (3.0 and 4.0)

-Character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will be replaced with Yasuhiko Yoshizaku. Afterward all Eva fans commit suicide due to unwilling to accept their favourite Rei looks like Sayla Mass.
-When Shinji deliver his final blow with the Spear of Longinus, he will shout loudly "OREWA EVAA!!!"..Oh wait, that was a different director.
