QUOTE(M.A.A @ May 15 2009, 10:49 AM) sorry for noob question... is it better to do partition on single hdd or better having another hdd.. purpose for storage n gaming... if better do partition, gonna grab 1tb.if not mybe go for 160gb n 500gb please comment..thanx I would choose partitioning, because the performance difference is practically non-existent.

I am looking for 3.5" 1TB external hdd, which brand is better. Seagate , Buffalo, Maxtor, WD? Range below $400. Speed is not so important, Reliability is prority.
Seagate Freeagent is reliable or not cause i saw user review from other web said not to buy seagate cause not reliable.
Thinking of buying a buffalo but afraid of their support. My brother bought a buffalo 1TB at Penang PC fair after went back to try, the data save was missing on the 1st try, so send back for warrant. But after 1 month still haven't come back yet. Don't know is the distributor problem or manufacturer problem.

Having OS on a seperate HDD is good in a way that if that HDD fails you only need to reinstall your OS while your data is safe. Having it on a different partition is good enough. For me I have a 160GB partition for OS and I almost reinstall my OS every 2 to 3 months to clean away all the junk tts been accumulated.... If you just wan to have oni OS on a partition and install programs and apps on other partitions, 80GB is more than enough.

Or mess with the wires.
The only problem I see is with Windows relabelling the drives, because it can't relabel or it will break almost every program, including itself. You will likely have to reinstall Windows, perhaps even repartition.

As long as the HDD are sata then just plug in, set the boot HDD from BIOS and you are good to go. If its PATA then u need to set master/slave in the BIOS as well as on the HDD itself. And yes like @everling said, you will need to reinstall OS on the boot HDD.

Anyone have experience with Samsung HDDs? The price for the F1 1TB seems rather tempting for it's speed. but my friend told me it has a lot of RMA issues, though he didn't specify when, just hearsay.
