guys , i heard dat new version of SATA will be released soon... really r??
it is rumoured dat it has 6gb/s data transfer speed...  blink.gif  icon_idea.gif
sory if im being a slowpoke  sweat.gif
*
The thing is Sata speed is the speed of the interface. However all the mainstream HDD can't even hit the 3Gb/s rate as per the Sata 2 spec. The bottleneck is always at the HDD mechanisms. I think even the better mainstreamn 7200rpm HDD can only do less than 200Kb/s (whether burst or sustained) - pls correct me if I am wrong. wink.gif

So IMO all these will not affect mainstream PC users at all. smile.gif I would be more than happy if all my 7200.11 and WDs can hit the Sata 1 150Kb/s rate constantly smile.gif

I have 2 WD HDD and 3 Seagates. The latest I bought is Seagate 7200.11 1TB. Don't know if you guys noticed this.... From Vista test, both WD HDDs gives gives 110+ MB/s for burst speed and about 72+MB/s for sustained speed. Seagate on the other hand will be somewhat opposite, giving 94+MB/s burst and 120+MB/s sustained....

Interesting.... any idea which speed is more important? smile.gif

Don't think you're gonna be able to find new 3.5" 100GB HDD nowadays.... even 160GB is a little difficult I think. Or did you mean 1000GB ie 1TB?

1TB is about rm330 depending on brand and series. You can always check the garage or LYN main page for pricelists smile.gif

just bought a Seagate 1000GB.

Any issue  with this hdd ?

What firmware is it? Generally if its the newer 3 platter model (instead of 4) and firmware is CCH something then it should be ok (unless there are more unknown and upcoming seagate problems).

sorry for noob question...
is it better to do partition on single hdd or better having another hdd..
purpose for storage n gaming...
if better do partition, gonna grab 1tb.if not mybe go for 160gb n 500gb
please comment..thanx
*
Ya.... performance difference is negligible. Having OS on a seperate HDD is good in a way that if that HDD fails you only need to reinstall your OS while your data is safe. Having it on a different partition is good enough. For me I have a 160GB partition for OS and I almost reinstall my OS every 2 to 3 months to clean away all the junk tts been accumulated.... smile.gif If you just wan to have oni OS on a partition and install programs and apps on other partitions, 80GB is more than enough.

As long as the HDD are sata then just plug in, set the boot HDD from BIOS and you are good to go. If its PATA then u need to set master/slave in the BIOS as well as on the HDD itself. smile.gif And yes like @everling said, you will need to reinstall OS on the boot HDD.

Hello Hardisk Gurus,
Two weeks ago, my friend updates his Vista. After one hour, suddenly the PC turn off itself. Once turn ON, CHKDSK runs and listing few segments. (don't know how to describe)
Well, me PC noob. But, I suspected that the hardisk is corrupted. (my 2cent)

As we try to run the hardisk on other PC, same thing happen. Even put the hardisk to slave.

I have no idea on how to retrieve the data back. Can anyone of u guys here can help him to retrieve back all his data?

The hardisk spec as below:

ST3500320AS
Firmware: SD15
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA
Thanks in advance. Looking forward for solutions.

Manufacturers specify 1GB as 1000MB while PC calculates 1GB as 1024MB. Thats y the difference.

Help!

I'm using a 3.5inch hardisk (WD Blue 640GB) with a Vantec Nexstar Docker...since i just got the hardrive (bought it 2nd hard from a member), why is it so hot one huh?

I dunno the temperature, but I can't hold it more than 5 secs during operation.
It is only warm during idle.

Is is normal for a hardisk to be hot when using a fanless hardisk docker?

Thanks in advance...
*
I think its normal.

I have a old Seagate 7200.10 120GB which is in an external USB enclosure and even when idle its VERY warm to touch. (I didn't try to hold it though). But it has been this way for the past 2 years, almost one year in the external enclosure.

Guys, what are the differences between 3.5" and 2.5" HDD?
I am looking for Ext. HDD with USB connection.
*
For external, 3.5" will need to use a additional power supply while the 2.5" external HDDs do not require it. If portability is a concern than 2.5" is much more convenient, not to mention smaller and lighter.

I always treat the difference in specs of the mainstream HDDs like the seconds it takes from 0 to 100km/h in cars. You won't feel that few seconds and chances are it will not make any noticable difference in real life. smile.gif

Reliability is much more important. Of course pls dun go comparing HDDs of different spin rate of worse - between normal and SSD HDDs... ;P

1 question i using f3 1TB i create 2 partition .......but when i transfer file from 1 partition to another only 30mb/s .....almost the same speed from my USB to the f3 .......weird ....anyway to speed it up ? I saw the ss u guys took can go up to 100mb/s
*
I'm no expert but i think its because you are basically transfering within the same HDD, just diff partitions, tts y its slower. The same HDD needs to READ and Write at the same time n hence becomes slower..... where as if you transfer files across HDD, one reads and the other writes. e.g. when I transfer 13GB files frm my Seagate 7200.11 1TB to the new Samsung F3 1TB I also get around 110mb/s. smile.gif

Do correct me if my theory is wrong... smile.gif

guys guys, i'm searching for a 1TB 3.5" hard disk below RM300, cheaper is better but i don't want to neglect performance that much though the hard disk only acts as an external hard disk.

is WD Green 1TB 64MB worth the money? i'm guessing that the Samsung 1TB that is selling in lowyat isn't the faster ones anymore right? (F3 iianm, or issit F2? forget already rclxub.gif )
*
Actually I was also considering the WD Green 1TB with 64mb. Ended up with Samsung F3 still coz have not seen any reviews as to whether the 64mb will make any difference. smile.gif Anyone with this HDD care to comment?

No, my router supports gigabit ethernet. Anyway any latest review on the Samsung 750GB HD754JJ?
*
I hope you know that gigabit speed is also dependent on the cable too. You cannot use the normal cat 5e cable and hope to get gigabit speeds even though both are gigabit ports. smile.gif
