Have someone using Western Digital Passport 500GB at the office, so far no problem (1~2 months).
Saw some critiques on the website regarding the Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB model has some issue, unconfirm from which batch though.
Buffalo, many people bought it and was told it's tough built, durable, etc. Since I don't see many review on this, good luck??!

Umm... maybe you should look at this review before you make your decision. Hope it helps.

Dun wanna try Transcend StoreJet 25M? 1 of my friend using it. I found its quite durable as it claimed. Having fallen from the desk and slip many time from his bag but so far no problems..Its military standard build.

Hi all,

i have an old laptop that frequently cannot boot up. have to slightly shake the laptop then only will the windows start booting. is it due to the hard disk?

if i wan to change the internal hard disk, must i follow back the same spec ie 15GB IDE 4200RPM? or can i use higher capacity IDE 5400RPM HD?

not sure if it's the hard disk problem, but you can change the internal hard disk to a bigger capacity one, dont need to follow back the same specs.

You can change to a bigger capacity but judging from your hard disk size, I have a little doubt newer IDE can even boot from your laptop, not to talk about current IDE hard disk availability.
You can try other ppl, friend's IDE hard disk to see if your laptop can detect and boot the hard disk, as far as I know some old mainboard has limitation on the hard disk capacity due to old BIOS firmware and such... buy and regret is painful, especially it's now very expensive.

External storage, you can get around 1.0TB to 1.5TB depends on brand.
I won't recommend specific model but I would say depends on your preference.
Either 1 you get is almost the same, but just some get extra service, warranty, etc.

Price point, I taking pricelist from PC Zone @ 18/05.
Samsung G3 1.5TB @ RM369, 1.0TB @ RM299, value!
Seagate, Free Agent Desk 1.0TB @ RM345, Raptor Portable storage @ RM325, different? Google?
Buffalo Drive Station w/ Turbo USB 1.0TB @ RM315, Drive Station w/ Encryption @ RM345.
Western Digital has several series,
Elements Desktop 1.0TB @ RM300, 1.5TB @ RM370
MyBook Essential Series 1.0TB @ RM345
MyBook Elite 1.0TB @ RM385

That's about all that fits your budget.
