I couldn't find the 1TB model there too. A quick peek at Newegg solved that problem.

Bought a black caviar 1TB for RM315. Definately worth paying for. Data is always more valuable than the drive itself.

Anyway, was not even using it as main drive as Im lazy to format again. This drive has dual processor, stabletrac and no touch plus the extra 2 years warranty, the RM40 difference to Green Caviar is worth every cent.

i'm currently using RAID 0 with 2 old harddisk of mine.

a seagate barracuda 250GB+western D 250GB.

there's an noticeable increase in access times and writing data. games load faster as well...5-10 seconds..bootup times is definitely faster. using 32kb stripe size.

I purchased a samsung 1.5 tb. The registration process of the hard disk warranty is (still is) tedious, unfriendly and their webpage is really good at time out !

Minus one to samsung digital products.

Yet another drive failure.
This time the victim is a WD Mybook.

I'd like to know if the problem is the HDD or the enclosure itself.

Clues:
The drive failed while it was plugged in, and had little to no physical damage.
The drive does not make any sound when in motion.
There is a drive letter, but i can not access it via explorer.

Can anyone take a guess? Further information available upon request.

Not buying another mybook since i hear these things drop like flies.

try changing the cable. somehow, many of my 'dead' external harddisks was cured with a simple USB cable swap.

That is because due to the limitations of a physical drive head, your seek times will never actually improve by epic proportions with a RAID array.

It was an MFT Failure.

Did a chkdsk /f, now I'm starting a 1200 minute scan of the hdd w/PC File Inspector, and then i'll have to do a massive undelete job.

I'm not about to have to redownload 300 gigs of anime that i have not watched (or ever will).

just try to check the drive as Afoxisko as E-J@1 advise .. scare the front USB is not capable enough power to the hard disk.

The Fusion-io ioXtreme PCI SSD may be only 80Gb, but it can consistently give throughput of 700Mb/s reads and 300Mb/s writes which is way faster than SATA II:

$900 for a 80GB drive? Pass.

Besides, the only real benefit I see with flash based memory is their minuscule seek times. Leave the sequential transfers to a good ol' HDD.

Hi, may I know where do you register the Samsung hard disk? The last time I check is just check validity without the expiry date. Thanks.

The other day I was asking why aren't SSDs made in 3.5" sizes... Well, OCZ now has new SSDs in 3.5" sizes up to 1Tb. And the 1Tb model only costs US$3572:

there's some software that can help you recover your files, provided that you didn't save anything on the hard disk after you format. but i can't remember what's the name of the software doh.gif

You could try using Recuva. When recovering your files, save them to another hard disk. You cannot restore in -place as you will risk overwriting data not yet recovered. You will need other hard disks with enough free space to save the data to.
