haha.. nola.. That is through a Replay of route saved... U can set the speed of the DEMO route so that it can be view faster... This is another good features on Sygic... As for voice.. i have almost over 20 s language.. However, for English it is only Male voice.. Lady voice is for Cantoniese, Manderin, BM n others...

YES, the POI (Petrol station for eg).. It even have the tel number for that particular petrol station.. With POI, u can always get the nearest petrol station from your current's location..

hmm, i've yet to discover that feature. there's no English for female? Sygic should include that in their next update. biggrin.gif anyway, thanks! smile.gif

What do you all use to mount the iPhone to the car windscreen/dashboard? And where to get one?

Th only mount I've seen so far is the Griffin Windowseat but it's not suitable for me as I have my iPhone in a hard case.

anyway, just get to test Sygic on a friend's i3G today. and what i can say is, it's by far the best GPS navigation software for iPhone. i've tested it when i drove from my place in Taiping to Kampar just now (which took around 1 hour and 30 mins) and i can say i'm really impressed.

here are my findings:
1. it doesn't drain the battery much (Sygic was on for 90-100 mins and battery only dropped from 76% to 50%), maps are detailed (POIs like petrol stations are quite up-to-date, even have specific lorongs for my housing area in Taiping, which is quite a small town)
2. navigation & routing is spot-on (don't seem to notice any lag in loading my current position, routes were computed quite fast)
3. i absolutely loved the landscape mode!  there's even a day and night view which change the background colors to suit the lighting. thumbup.gif

never got the chance to test Garmin dedicated GPS device or Garmin on Nokias but Sygic has made iPhone's A-GPS much much better and useful.

if it's not because of the price tag, i would have got one myself. i should start saving. (there goes the money i saved for new cases. sad.gif)

hopefully TomTom's offering might be slightly more affordable.

What is the defination of FAST calculation...hmn.. As for my experience.. the recalculation took about less then 5 seconds.. To me, this is very fast.. Maybe Garmin perform in split second.. I am not sure..

I was just meddling with it last nite and i noticed that your 3G must be turned on (if you've turned it off using bosspref). I tried turning it off after that and the GPS could never lock my position. Also I notice that there is down/upload activities when GPS is used. But the amount is quite negligible, 2-5kb.

I'll have to further test it. Only had it for a while. Did you turn off your EDGE as well? I turned both off from BossPref.

I turn off both edge and 3G but didn't use BossPref.
I just go to setting and turn off my 3G. As for my edge, I din enter anything at the APN option.

I've turn my location services on. When I open Sygic, It ask us to allow Sygic to use our current location, I click allow.
And I stand under a clear sky but cant find any signal after 5 minutes.

I have a few question :

1) Is there something do with Push Notifications? I turn the whole things off.
2) Normally when you all open Sygic, It will auto searching for GPS signal right?

I have few questions in mind.

1)Do we need any internet connection for gps if we jailbreak adi?

2) Will the iphone gps (jailbroke) detect our location when we are on road and direct us to our destination without any internet connection?

hey bro..
the default maps app uses 3g/edge/gprs for displaying the map n location since they r not stored on the phone..hence u'll need internet connection...
2ndly, if u r using a jb phone, thr is an option for u 2 get an app called offline maps from cydia which wud store da maps on ur phone and wud require minimal net connection...
3rdly, u can get sm of da new apps on app store such as sygic or later to be released tom tom which hv preloaded maps....
4th, in order 4 the phone to determine ur location, location services must be on...
if it is, then shudnt be a prob for the gps to lock signal...

I think our wrong concept of using GPS in iphone needs 3G/EDGE's data connection is rooted in our mind.. To make things clear, a general GPS device does not need all this.. Why iphone need this if u are using their native google maps.. BECAUSE, the google map is not store on the iphone.. Therefore, each time u use the NATIVE iphone google map for GPS navigation.. 3G/EDGE is needed to LOAD the map..

Tomtom, Sygic STORED maps INTO iphone... Same like Garmin & others GPS device.. So, NO 3G/EDGE data services is needed.. hope this is clear to all..
