Maybe. But It works in Singapore.Hopefully there is a 3rd party map that v can install.Just like any others GPS mobile phone. So admire to saw how Nokia N95 GPS works
QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Oct 5 2008, 11:37 PM)

That is y..I never though that it works in this way.I really not agree v the saying that because u r using it in a not supported country.By right a GPS should works regardless where u r in the globe.Like the called ID issue in iPhone. That is nothing to do v which country u r in.Rather it is more on how the apple programer write the search matching critirial. The logic is to match the phone number regardless the +6.What is the point that apple need a full matching?Again,is a logic issue

QUOTE(kmheing @ Oct 5 2008, 11:48 PM)
@sugen

i think if u've done ur research 1st before u get ur iphone, u should have known that it wont work here in malaysia..just my opinion..

No,there is nothing to do v legal issue. That is the nature of any Assisted-GPS works. It is the map issue rather than a GPS issue.U can test it by visiting maps.google.com on your PC,then specify your current location. Then ask for driving location from point A to B.It will return d same error result that u c in iPhone. So is confirm is the google issue. There is no legal issue on A-GPS works,if there is then y it still can locate your current location rite?It is just thatthe maps driving direction feteas is not ready in Malaysia

QUOTE(friends @ Oct 6 2008, 12:23 AM)
GPS location detection uses WiFi + Cellular Towers Transmission things.... so do you think logically, can APPLE simply use M'sia Cellular Towers without any permissions or agreements ?

So, I think that is the reason why.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

Yap u are right ! It even got a blue dot indication, which will move on the map when u r in a moving vehicle..

QUOTE(wahkiz @ Oct 6 2008, 01:07 AM)
Hmm so the GPS currently can pinpoint locations in malaysia right? just without driving directions?
*

Added on October 6, 2008, 9:29 amThere is a turn by turn navigation. But it does not has driving direction from point A to B only.. You can test it out when u r in your vehicle, turn on your iphone GPS.. The blue dot indication will move turn by turn along v your vehicle when u move..
Because of no driving direction, thus i also found it useless at the moment..

QUOTE(Dante18 @ Oct 6 2008, 01:30 AM)
Iphone GPS is still kinda pointless at the moment. No turn by turn navigation, and need to use 3G to view map which is going to be costly. Hope to use 3rd parties like Garmin or Tom tom in Appstore one day.

Ok,so is just an offline maps.I m using data unlimited plan;by the way did u come across any 3rd party Co. that can provide route v map n iPhone?Untill this is working else I still find that d Gps iphone in Malaysia is not usefull
QUOTE(Shock @ Oct 6 2008, 02:32 PM)
Steps to use

1) Use cydia Dl the offline maps apps

2) Open SSH
3)Put Maptiles.sqlitedb and com.apple.maps.plist into /var/mobile/media/maps

4) open offline maps apps, select KL then press Copy ( to make cache in the original maps apps, then press link)

5) if all correct, it should display the map in Iphone Maps without using any online connection

@Sugen

Currently there is no route from google map for malaysia, therefore cannot create a route files, the offline apps is included the offline route only problem is google maps itself does not have malaysia route. If there have, maybe i can learn how to install offline routes.

Wat I mean was since 3rd party developer is so advance now.Cant they developed a map that iPhone can works with instead of relying on google map. Many GPS device outside allow d device to download n I stall different map.Y none is for iPhone

QUOTE(Shock @ Oct 6 2008, 07:43 PM)
sugen,

as i mentioned, the iphone is using google maps. only route can be make is using google maps route which no available to malaysia map YET. Other solution should be like a App called "Path tracker" where it can route the map but u need to do it manually b4 you left ur house/place. Such other program such nokia bro mentioned also

I think Assisted GPS really need assist to determine the GPS location as the name itself imply. But u can stilluse it to gauge the plane crusng speed
QUOTE(little ice @ Oct 6 2008, 11:18 PM)
i'm wondering about that too, and on top of that, say if i'm travelling somewhere else, don't have roaming and using it in airplane mode, no wifi whatsoever. can the offline map use just with the intergrated gps?

Yes google map has all Malaysia map. It is just that the features "driving direction is not activated by google map"

Get a try on your PC at

map.google.com
Set your default location to MALAYSIA, then do a GET DIRECTION.. u will get the same error message like what displayed in your iphone

Now, change your default location to SINGAPORE, then do a GET DIRECTION. U will GET a nice driving direction for u..Give a try on your PC..

QUOTE(bjkhan @ Oct 14 2008, 04:19 PM)
Tinkerbel,

Secondly, Google map already have maps for KL. Since its using the supposedly same engine, I am not sure why they can't allow it in the iPhone. Pretty damn weird I say. Maybe I am missing out something.

.EDGE/3G/WIFI is needed ONLY when it first LOCATE/determine your location and of course maps loading.Once the map is out then Internet access is not needed anymore. That is what A-GPS,which it can first find where u r in the shortest time

QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Oct 25 2008, 01:09 AM)
no more i will hear from iphone skeptics complaining like an "anjing betina" about the gps features. FINALLY!

Added on October 25, 2008, 1:12 ambut one thing for sure (judging by how it works) your 3G speed has to be definitely at satisfactory level.
i'm afraid that the current edge speed by digi might not comply much with this drive-to-direction GPS feature.

Added on October 25, 2008, 9:16 amGuy.. i think we really need this.. Anyone see this one in Lowyat? I like it because it is not bulky
