@Baretta

i am breaking my bank! i wanna get the iPhone! Hey does anyone have knowledge about purchasing an Australian iPhone unlocked? I asked a couple of weeks ago in another thread but everyone seems to have overlooked it sad.gif

PM me if possible since this thread is not dedicated for this.

By the way, is turn-by-turn navigation possible in future firmwares? No positive news so far, eh?

Because my colleague is returning from Australia on the 1st week of Nov. And isn't Australian iPhone cheaper? I'm glad if someone could help. Do PM me if possible. I don't wanna go out-of-topic.

@Nokia
you're from Monash? I used to lepak at your library during my final semester in May. My friend smuggled me in tongue.gif

Has anyone tested the map outside KL/Selangor? I hope the 'new' feature works as well.

I wonder if directions for petrol stations, McDs, Pizza Hut, KFC, police station, and hospitals will be available... hmm.gif

I believe unlike other maps like Masing, MapKing, etc. the Google Map doesn't have POIs like this. However the major ones do available - like the National Stadium Bukit Jalil for example. If you search for it, you could actually find it.

But i must say the map is rather outdated though. I was trying the map to route from my Kuantan's home to my girlfriend's and at one point, it was telling me to do a right turn when the road is actually closed for some good 7-8 years ago!

But when I open the Sygic
It show that no GPS signal and I wait for quite a long time it is still the same.
Anyone know what's the problem?

I was just meddling with it last nite and i noticed that your 3G must be turned on (if you've turned it off using bosspref). I tried turning it off after that and the GPS could never lock my position. Also I notice that there is down/upload activities when GPS is used. But the amount is quite negligible, 2-5kb.

@sugen

I'll have to further test it. Only had it for a while. Did you turn off your EDGE as well? I turned both off from BossPref.

I think our wrong concept of using GPS in iphone needs 3G/EDGE's data connection is rooted in our mind.. To make things clear, a general GPS device does not need all this.. Why iphone need this if u are using their native google maps.. BECAUSE, the google map is not store on the iphone.. Therefore, each time u use the NATIVE iphone google map for GPS navigation.. 3G/EDGE is needed to LOAD the map..

Tomtom, Sygic STORED maps INTO iphone... Same like Garmin & others GPS device.. So, NO 3G/EDGE data services is needed.. hope this is clear to all..

Yes Sugen. I am aware of that. I was using Sygic. With 3G/EDGE turned off the phone didn't seem to be able to lock my position. With both turned on however, my location is detected within a minute. But this could be an isolated case. Will further test it smile.gif
