to all sifuus here... i got a noob question... erm.. i'm planning to get a geforce 9300 chipset mobo for my htpc... n i'm planning to put my old p4 proc on to it... do u think p4 proc + geforce 9300 chipset mobo + 2x1gb ram can play 1080p smoothly?? the graphic igp on the mobo support DXVA...

ive got a problem now
my AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) coming out some weird noise
its in the green though.. just worried for all my hardware going thru the AVR.. weird "hhhzzzzzzzzz" noise
anyone experience something like that b4?
should i just off the whole thing

it's quite impossible to find new chipsets with socket 478 already nowadays coz 478 already phased out quite some time ago. older chipsets like the VIA or SIS chipset might still have.
astria, how does windows 7 run on your p4? smooth?

how about drivers and software? just use vista drivers? any major problems?

drivers installed fine... using Vista driver...
exception is the wireless, Intel PROset\Wireless 2200BG... the Vista one won't work... used XP's one instead, and it works flawlessly...
program wise, i can't get Live Messenger and Live OneCare to install... Office 2003 installs ok, but hangs when launched even when ran at compatibility mode...
others like iTunes, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Java, OpenOffice 3.0, Firefox 3.0.5 work with no problems at all...

wow,
the price is still abit pricey though, considering what u can get at that price nowadays eg : dual core / quad core

iirc, in real world performance, got 1 model of P4 EE totally pwned PD 800 series... but issit the Pressy or Gelatin one i forgot...
