^^; For those who prefer aHome rather than dxtop, now you may purchase the full version through paypal : aHome:Mappn.com.

Although I believe it will be abit slow on getting updates in the future, but it's still an option for us to opt for legal paid apps.
I have purchased dxtop through this method anyway. ^^

Hurry up, last 3 days for their promotion at USD2.99 (normal price is 4.99). brows.gif

Guys!

Happy to say that I have joined you guys as an Android! I've got the black colored one and yes, it has the creaks. But no worries because I've found some solutions which I am going to try in the next few days.

Mine came by default RC30 by JF. So I guess its already rooted in advanced? If this is the case, can I update straight to JF1.42 RC33 without downgrading or I should follow the standard procedures of downgrading.

Anyway I'm so glad! rclxm9.gif

Ya-rei...ya-rei!! Welcome aboard Androidian.

If you already got the JF rom, then pretty sure you have the root access. Try download Terminal Emulator from the Market and type SU , see u will get "#" or not ?!

If got (ur G1 rooted), then u maybe can get this apps and upgrade to JF1.42 RC33. Be reminded that this still in beta ya ^^;

YES! It shows '#'. So this confirms that I have root access. Anyway I want to update the Radio ROM. What are the procedures? Is it the same as updating the main ROM?

Anyway I am not sure why JFUpdater keeps redownloading once it has reach 100%. I am trying to download this file manually. I'm currently at HERE and I'm seeing 2 links. One which is the .zip file (RC33) and the other is .tar.gz. Which one should I download?

Get the *.zip one for normal update.
The *.tar.gz is for environmental building Rom.

Actually the procedures isn't that complicated. It is something like flashing a HTC Diamond (the HardSPL part) and flashing the Samsung P2 PMP. I especially like the way of upgrading ROMs simply by uploading it to the microSD card and follow a sequence of button presses unlike using a utility to download and then clicking on a batch files and wait for it to upload before going through some weird screen flashes.

By the way, I am not quite happy with the Radio performance. On my previous HTC Diamond I get pretty good Edge (Maxis) coverage even indoor. With the G1, it sometimes looses connection and go into a search mode. Outside is slightly better but its not full bars all the way. Maybe the Radio ROM needs updating?

Updating the firmware is ABC, but jailbreaking G1 is abit technical! If the testkey installed wrongly or downloaded a corrupted testkey and you will have retarded Android. Just make sure each of the file downloaded correctly and your SDcard is in Fat32.

I'm also having this lost connection issue these two days. Will have sudden drop of signals from full bar to 1 or 2 bar only.
Hopefully this is due to Maxis tuning their Edge/3g network to cater the upcoming Iphone package lah ^^;

Yeah hopefully. But on my SE C905, connection is very consistent and always full bar (EDGE). So I am suspecting the Radio ROM is not that good. Even WIFI sensitivity isn't spectacular. The reason I say this is that the HTC Dream/G1's hardware is very similar to the HTC Raphael, Touch Diamond and Pro. The Touch Diamond's radio performance sucks too during its introduction but later improved with newer Radio ROM updates. Also these devices have been installed with Android OS with limited success. So I'm sure this gives us a good correlation between G1 and the rest.

There are reports from xda-developers that a user have flashed in Radio ROM from HTC Raphael and experienced improved performance like the one we're having problem. But I am reluctant to do this since it involves a lot of file replacement. Hopefully someone will share the files (already patched).

Ha..ha... think this is what we called hybrido heh!! ^^ Wonder the Radio rom is reversible or not?!
It has been reported that if the Radio rom not been updated to the latest (1.22.14.11), it will affect update from T-mobile/Google in future.

I don't dare to touch the Radio. Maybe we just have to wait for new update for this blush.gif

Agreed, I guess we just leave it that way. Anyway for rooted users, we rely on JesusFreke liao so we'll be expecting his updates. Problem is it may take awhile before it is released AND Cupcake is very very tempting. So I guess we need to de-root? If Cupcake comes with a new Radio ROM, I'm gonna ripped that portion out.

Well, I have problems with Google Maps sometimes cannot resolve my location when I only enable GSM Triangulation. GPS is spot on so far. Ooh, I do have a feeling that if you enable both together will cause the Google Map to take location from 'Wireless Network' instead from GPS. Thats because when GPS is activated, it requires some time before it can detect the satelites. As a result during this time, the GPS location will not be available causing Google Maps to detect location from 'Wireless Network'.

Thanks, and yes I do feel that the 'wireless network' mode is to help-up the GPS initial startup just like my previous E71.
May be have to give a bit for more longer time for the GPS to pin out the exact location.

Its a confirm that the availability of paid apps is derived from the origin of SIM card. I read that in the android community forum. Meaning to say, the information from the SIM card will be used in Market Place.

Well depending on the GPS receiver reception quality/strength, the accuracy can be few meters to a few hundred meters. Try disabling 'Wireless Network' locator and only enable GPS. It'll take awhile before it lock onto some satellites. I understand that the Qualcomm processor with integrated GPS receiver (same as most HTC devices) isn't the best available but it shouldn't be too bad.

If things are still inaccurate, try moving in a car once you get GPS connected. If still inaccurate there are only 2 explanations:

1. The integrated GPS is really lousy.
2. Future Radio ROM plus ROM updates could improve its performance (meaning to say current revision isn't mature).
3. Google Map's coverage of Malaysia isn't accurate.

You can verify by putting the G1 next to a standalone GPS receiver. Get the coordinates of present location from both units and compare them. If both are almost the same but the standalone GPS's accuracy is spot on and the G1 isn't, then we know the map is at fault. If G1's coordinate is far from the standalone GPS's coordinates, we know something is wrong. tongue.gif
