These are instructions on how to jailbreak your 3G iPhone to the 2.1 iPhone firmware using QuickPwn for Windows.

Step One
Create a folder called Pwnage on your desktop.

Download the following files and place them in the Pwnage folder you just created:
- QuickPwn 2.1
- 2.1.0 (3G): iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw

Extract the QuickPwn21-1.zip file to the Pwnage folder.

Step Two
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.
user posted image

Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 2.1 firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to continue.
user posted image

Step Three
Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the 2.1 firmware you may launch QuickPwn.exe from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.
user posted image

Step Four
Make sure you iPhone is connected to the computer and click the blue arrow to continue.

user posted image

Step Six
Select the 2.1 firmware ipsw from the Pwnage folder on your desktop then click the Open button.
user posted image

Step Seven
QuickPwn will check to make sure the ipsw is valid. Click the blue arrow button to continue.
user posted image

Step Eight
You can now select whether to Add Cydia, Add Installer, or Replace Boot Logos. Select the ones you would like to perform then click the clue arrow button
user posted image

Step Nine
QuickPwn will now ask you to confirm your iPhone is connected via USB before continuing. Click the blue arrow button to proceed.
user posted image

Added on September 20, 2008, 12:34 pmStep Ten
QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Once its in recovery mode you will be prompted to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

Watch the prompts carefully and follow along.
user posted image

Step Eleven
Once QuickPwn detects your iPhone in DFU mode it will begin the jailbreak process.
user posted image

Step Twelve
Once jailbreaking is complete QuickPwn will inform you that it was successfull.

bro

your thread is a duplication of http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/790913 smile.gif
bear in mind pwnage, quickpwn and winpwn are from the same developers
inside pwnage & winpwn there is quickpwn too, all you need to do it to toggle it smile.gif
yes quickpwn is the fastest way but sometimes fast doesnt mean best

nevertheless its a good effort of you to share with fellow members thumbup.gif

hv a nice day

help and duplication of thread is not the same thing.. is good to try and help, but posting what someone have already posted is not the way..(in this case. the original thread starter's effort is wasted then)

now Twinkles can u please kindly close your thread?

No offense Twinkles, but I agree with Psyeo here.
Davidgary created a guide that already covers Mac & PC, so there's no need for another thread. Plus you're just copying 100% from iClarified.
I know you're just trying to help but another similar thread is unnecessary.
Thanks for understanding.

Davidgary did a good job on his thread.

but in this way, Twinkles does it better for new-comers.

easier reading topic, and yet attractive.

Hi twinkles,

Im sorry if you took it wrongly but i do believed if you read it thro the thread there is quickpwn for windows smile.gif
Im a heavy Windows user as well and being doing my part of helping members old or new in this thread.
I did duplication before and when i was told, i closed it down immediately. No worries man you effort is very
much appreciated.

Its not easy to please everybody in everything. Spoon feeding others wont do any good except it would create
more problem. In this world a lot of things are made easier and how easier it would have to be. By having
a little effort, such as using the search button, or google with the right question or even having the thought
of searching for the answer to the questions, would be a valuable experience for the person. We all once a
newbie before and we learn thro research, discussions, forums, meetings to gain valuable lessons.

Dont get me wrong, im not here to flame nor to say bad things. Ive said earlier the effort is appreciated eventho
its a complete copied from iClarrified. At least you took the time and paste it here in this thread notworthy.gif !! Its an
effort that not many willing to do! Most are as said...love spoonfed. sad.gif

Have a good day smile.gif

It takes time to get use to the apps for sure. Give it some time. You'll gain confidence using it. For me, i have been using mac for 15 years for work and home. So am comfortable with the whole works of Mac.

You can wan la..you sifu also.

Thats it bro ... i'm gonna lay low from now until after raya. Let see if the tsunami of 'iPhone user' will subside. Maybe then this forum will be a place for discussion rather than a Helpdesk with all the hit-an-runners.

To the others, U know where n how to reach me.

and not forgetting, they are also very stingy to have someone paid to answer all their silly questions. instead they expect a "free service" with a smile from the peeps here.

hence when you tried to give them hints instead of the expected spoonfed answers, they will say GTFO.

nice. very nice...

Can someone please help me.
Prior to quickpwn 2.1 i upgraded to 2.1 using older version of quickpwn using big boss instructions.i backed up my data in 2.1
When quick pwn 2.1 came out
I restored to 2.1 and used quickpwn to jailbreak and unlock and restored back using my backup.
All ok.But my battery is draining fast.I have drained the battery out twice.I dont use push and my location services is off.
I notice my battery drains fast when i on wifi.Faster drain than when i was on 2.0.2
Can some one please help me
Appreciate it

does your data backup contain a a lot of app in it.?if yes i think some of the app in the data you backup making ur battery drain fast,

how about to restore again to 2.1 and quickpwn again, then see how it work, if batter not draining so fast means that when you transfer back all your backup data into you iphone, some of the app drain you battery fast..

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah it does have a of of apps. What if i delete all apps than do a backup and then restore and quickpwn?
Will that work?So can i assume that 2.1 firmware is not the culprit that's draining my battery?

yes, delete all the app would be nice since we can only use default app after restoring, and we can assume that app you restore is the problem that make ur phone battery drain fast, and if im not wrong, we can only restore back some file for example your contact, calendar, note etc, try not to back up your app because 2.1 is different from older firmware,

i suspecting that the app you backup is not for firmware 2.1, thats why it make ur battery drain fast, may i know what firmware you using before you upgrading to 2.1..? please dont tell me its 1.1.4..huhuhuhu.. icon_idea.gif because some of the app, they have update it to make the app compatible with new firmware so if we use older app into the new firware, maybe..maybe..it make the battery drain fast or some any other error in iphone...cheers...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i don't think the quickpwn not the culprit because other people not getting this problem including me, yes you can restore it back but i think it will waste your time deleting, restoring, upgrading to new firmware, quickpwn it, then restore it back, pain ooo if doing like that,
BUT...by doing like that, you will get more experience and will eventually know what cause you iphone battery draining fast.

p/s: sorry error typo, 3G phone does not come with 1.1.4 or older firmware, SORRY... notworthy.gif

i am already on 2.1 and thought of using quickpwn 2.1 to re do it.
I got another issue as well. When i check in boss prefs my file size on / is only 80 mb out of 500mb and in itunes my others is 300+mb. I used quickpwn for my friend as well and never used backup to restore and set his phone up as new phone. He has got the same 80 mb of space left but i just did his but cant check his battery performance yet

Please advice how to get back this loss of space.I suspect this is draining the battery so i think he will have the same battery issue as mine but i am just assuming

sorry a bit off topic, I manage to upgrade to 2.1 JB. Everything works ok but somehow I feel that its a tad slower than 1.1.4.

Now I need to find a SMS app that enables me to forward SMS in 2.1. WeiSMS doesn't currently support 2.1. Apps in the default repos for cydia and installer 4 doesnt list any SMS apps. Would very much prefer a free/sponsored app. Thanks in advance.

So i do recommend that you find out more info before hand as such accusation is not appropriate and fair to psyeo or whom it may concern.

Hey guys,

I am having problems restoring my 2G 1.1.4 phone to the 2.1 firmware. From iTunes I selected the iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw file to restore, and it gave me the error number 5. I even tried to put it in restore mode prior to restoring it and it produced the same error. Have any of you encountered this problem before?

the firmware u downloaded (and posted on the 1st page) is for iPhone 3G....find the one for iPhone 2G
iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw
and u should not follow this guide , as it is for iPhone 3G ONLY (misleading title from the TS)
follow the guide on iClarified (since thread starter also copy from there 100%) here for iPhone 2G unlock and jailbreak

All phones are not jail broken out of the box. Once you purchase, you'll have to manually Jail Break it.

is there an option not to jailbreak it? i mean, jailbreaking enables u to download free apps from everywhere.. does that mean non-jailbroken phones cant download free apps? or just limited free apps?

there is tons of free apps available through iTunes without needing to jailbreak.
with jailbreak u can install quite a number of other apps that are not available and approved by apple.

since u're new, take my advice, don't jailbreak it till u are familiar with the phone after using it.

First thing I did was to jailbreak the phone because correct me if I'm wrong but without jailbreak, you can't solve the basic issues like the caller id prefix.

That is just one thing of course but to me it is quite major since I went and bought such an expensive phone but I have to double entry all the people in my phone book so that I can properly identify who sms/calls me. If you can live with doing that then I suppose psyeo is right. You don't have to jailbreak until you're more familiar with the phone.

what's with the caller id issue, wilsoncvt? u mean when there's an incoming call, it displays the number instead of the name?

is jailbreaking actually safe to the phone? i can simply use the steps given on the 1st page here right? smile.gif

Hi geo

basically 2G locked iphone can be unlocked and jailbreak by using winpwn(2.0-2.0.2) and can use Quickpwn for 2.1 firmware.

as i know for 2G firmware, jailbreak and unlocked can be done. There's a few ways yet the one well known of course from dev development group

as for 3G until today there is NO possibility of unlocking via software(Pwnage or Quickpwn) yet you can still jailbreak you iphone. Apple
made things easier by selling an unlocked version of 3G iphone as many of our users locally(Malaysia) are using the unlocked 3G iphone.
It is factory setting unlocked version of 3G iphone and you only need to JAILBREAK to install 3rd party applications in additional to the programs
provided(free one & paid one laa) via iTunes.

I hope this answers the question. If you wanna know how to unlocked the 2.1 firmware, check the pint post in this thread smile.gif

"Sometimes we make mistakes in life, by correcting the mistakes and acknowledging your mistakes does not mean you're weak, but it shows your willingness to learn and to be a betterman"

Have a great day smile.gif

Thanks Corvinux for info...
i also using 3G iphone unlocked version and jailbreak successfully.
But for my 2G iPhone(fw 2.0.1, last time upgrade using pwnage, unlock using software method),
I dun dare to upgrade it via iTune because i affraid will locked back the phone back.
As I know Quickpwn doesn't help us create custom firmware, it only provide Jailbreak only.
I had used Quickpwn to jailbreak my 3G iPhone.

After JB still no carrier means cannot make calls and no incoming calls.

During the process JB, you have to check the box "Activate iphone" if you are using Pwnage Tool.

Hi Cheemun7,

Manage to solve the problem dee. Just follow the advise from pjastro. after updating to 2.1, activate the phone first, make sure the carrier is detected. Then only use Pwnage to JB.
