Personally , my parents has one unit of Garmin 205w.
Since both of us going to travel often , I would like to ask how much differences beside a real GPS unit compare with Handphone GPS( Let say E71 ) ?

The first thing that comes to my mind will be the screen size , but what about signal ? Will it be accurate and fast start up during cold start ? Will the processor in E71 provide enough of speed for rendering those maps ?

Reply is very appreciated.
Thank you in advanced.

MFM - Malfreemaps. ( totally free ) Personally haven't try yet though.
MSM - Malsingmaps ( locked and need unlock code ) ( obtain code from contributing )

Please read the first post in this thread to have better understanding about the whole thing. smile.gif

AGPS locks faster than standalone units. Your E71 would obtain the signal faster than the 205W.
The proper way to use a sat-nav is to listen 1st. Voice guidance first. When only unsure then go for visual confirmation. Otherwise your eyes would be on the unit most of the time rather than on the road.

Accuracy for both are pretty much the same. E71 is able to handle the load not to worry.

the differences from the mobile and standalone unit is locking of signals. On a rainy/cloudy day, your E71 with AGPS would most likely still be able to navigate you. on a rainy day or cloudy day, the standalone unit ......suffers.
also reminder that E71 is at the end of the day, your mobile phone. draining the battery from there would mean u would end up with less talk time (unless charging all the way).

Users who are truly mobile rely on a single standalone unit so that they dont drain the battery off their phones. Salespeople need their mobile phones more than a sat-nav. There are still road signboards to get you there but if you dont have your client's number or someone important is unable to reach you, there goes your business contract.

Thanks for the explaination , in conclusion , E71 can handle and works like a standalone unit despite the screen size for make sure those junction.
I do understand that it'll drain battery but we do have car charger for this purpose right ? Same goes for standalone. I have never use it without any charger. ( it takes too long to lock on to satelites )

On the other hand , If I'm not mistaken it's contributions of new POI and new road tracks , aye ? laugh.gif
Or there's something new to obtain the unlock codes ?

Your post really clear my doubts , can't wait to get my hands on E71. biggrin.gif

those codes depends on who's handling your request. like i say, some stringent, some lenient.

and btw there are no junction views/lane assists or 3d buildings for mxt. nuvi's yes but not for mxt, who knows, perhaps in the near future.

if it was configured by the person who compiled it. CPOI's can contain information such as phone numbers, pictures, a detailed description etc etc etc.
i compiled my own group of friend's house locations into one single cpoi. so it wont cluster up my locations folder. in each separate poi , i inserted their photo, their number and address. i used the same symbol for all of em though. didnt want anything fancy.

E71.
the 5800 still alot of bugs. MXT was written specifically for s60v3 anyway. i've personally seen stimix's 5800 crash so many times. so scary.
