QUOTE(xavi5567 @ Apr 4 2009, 11:45 AM) hi to every 1 here.. how long does it take for a normal working gps and agps able phone to get a lock-on on a satellite.. is it longer if u r in a house.. mine try more than 15 minit still didn get a lock-on.. malaysia satellite coverage not so good is it? GPS under 5 minutesAGPS under 1 minute first time always takes longer. not all units can capture when under obstruction. N79 confirm can capture signal when indoors to a certain extent. probably give or take, 8 feet away from window or entrance. basement carparks can forget it. |

QUOTE(xavi5567 @ Apr 4 2009, 03:18 PM) i m using e71.. that day about 15-20 minute jsu get a lock on.. any way how to know v got a lock on? does the lock on last or it depend on the area? the bar chart like graph on the top left corner shows you your signal strength. red means aquiring, green means aquired and nothing means u're better with it switched off. there are other methods to tell you signal strength and how many sat locks are captured but its pretty much irrelavant. the signal captured might last until something weird happens. weird things include: thunderstorm with super thicks clouds and heavy rain and hail tall structures all around you indoors and heavily shaded areas (inclusive super large trees) in the jungle inside a tinted car and of course when you're in certain parts of klang. i dont know why but its just klang. |

QUOTE(kelvinsin @ Apr 10 2009, 02:47 AM) im at singapore, using mobile online package 30gb/month. Does the agps charge ald including in my mobile broadband monthly charge if i want to activate it? each time gmxt is switched on, it sucks up 4kB +/- worth of data. to reach 30GB, u have to switch on gmxt like ...... > 100000000 times. unless u run google maps. then data gets used more and that also ......... wont hit close to 10GB. charges are data charges so use away ! |

QUOTE(stevenlee @ Apr 13 2009, 10:16 AM) guy, first - omnia is winmo device, and tube is s60 device. the agps in omnia is actually a transit file whereby it downloads the sat's location and it gets keyed into the mobile. meaning it just tells the phone's gps chip where to look for a sat lock to quicken the pace. i need some answer for GPS. first, my Omnia using GPS and my fren Nokia Tube using Assisted GPS and both of us using garmin what is the different? second, i found that my fren assisted GPS can even search even in the building and locking target within 1 min... it was so fast compare to my omnia running normal GPS mode. BTW can windows mobile set assisted GPS as well? the symbian mobile device on the other hand, locks using sat and cellphone towers. there are ways to go about it all. to triangulate the position, 3 sat locks and a minimal of 2 cellphone towers are required for triangulation. the rest are all done using calculation error correction aka your phone's processor. second - you can search even without sat signal leh. goto ---> settings ----> browse map even if you can obtain a lock indoors, readings are quite off. i've done this so many times and found that, the positions are really off target. its good if you wish to tag some shoplots indoors, apart from that , i dont see much use for having garmin indoors especially in malls. easier to just go to information counter and ask. winmo's gps especially on the omnia is quite spot on. most of my poi's embedded into MFM are from the omnia. only my track routes are from race chrono. dont feel disturbed just because the nokia phones get lock on faster. how much time can u waste getting a lock anyway ? its all mostly under 5 minutes and i'm sure u can spare 5 minutes. honestly, the omnia is able to give a "more accurate" reading then the nokia. tip - if you're looking for a super accurate device with probably 2-5m correction allowance, go for military devices. |

honestly you can.
However before you jump for joy, i cant find "that" piece of software for it. even if i did manage to find it, its going to be costly to be using it. what i found quite some time ago, was to use something called, 3G assist. 3G assist is a piece of self written software by some unknown hero who wrote it for his pda. i honestly cannot find it, even until today. but just in case u did come across it, 3G assist works by sending dummy data to your provider. when data is sent back from your provider, it bounces different packets through different towers. the data is then calculated and tabbed by the software, which is in reality, a calculation correction error software. judging from distance and time etc etc etc, it then works in sync with sat signals and walah ! you have superb AGPS. but also costly data charges (unless u run unlimited package) sounds good right ? it is. i've only seen this twice. with my own eyes. the person who had it, didnt wanna let me know too much. cant be bothered to beg someone for it anyway. so your next closest solution, more cost effective, is to either continue using enhanced gps, i think for omnia its called Xtra. or you can install gpsgate. you can try reading more on the xda forums. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416564 i know some even recommend using gps toggle http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...293#post2972293 i've not used either. this is as far as i can help you on this. sorry. |

you can also use other alternatives to speed up the process ..........
new location settings - assuming you roughly know where you are or google maps - which sucks data till no kingdom come |

QUOTE(Deani_77 @ Apr 30 2009, 10:35 AM) Those traffic light actually made using custom POI (using another POI code for traffic light icon), since MSM already standardize all it polyline code and POI code to original Garmin format, they need to take out all the map customization from the previous version. i did not understand a single thing u have typed. u mean to tell me, MFM is using a non-garmin compliant POI to be captured ???? go learn GPS pls ! |

wat on earth do u want a poi of traffic lights ????? mad questions deserve mad answers.
traffic lights are already embedded into mfm though not all. its like asking for all the shoplots to be listed down. yes there are separated custom poi's such as pasar malam locations, roadblocks/speedtraps and etc etc etc. all can be found and attached if u're on mfm. afaik, garmin didnt mention how many custom poi's one can have. still a trial and error thing i suppose. probably 60000 , i' dunno i'm not sure. no one's reached 50000 even. |

QUOTE(qwe65 @ May 5 2009, 08:11 AM) several optionshttp://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?p=3313#p3313 the above is one. my option is to keep a copy of gmapsupp in microsd's. either u have several microsd's or u can rename the folders when u need to use it. there are other methods as well. kalo aku cakap boleh co-exist, memang boleh co-exist tau ? |

QUOTE(bdjim @ May 25 2009, 01:14 PM) Thanks for the explanation. However, if any experts do happen to come upon this thread, please enlighten the newbies! Thanks in advance. it would be wise advice if i tell u to go to these recommended sites for your questions. may it be newbie questions, or technical help.Buntutman, I am not a resident in that gated community, and cannot help you there. www.malsingmaps.com or www.malfreemaps.com or www.mypdacafe.com experts dont lurk in here. stimix hardly comes ere, antyong used to lurk here and so does unker sunny. but like i say, used to.
