Each paper cost about £100.  Project cost about £300.

No one really gives a toss when you have CEng.  But having a longer title on your business card always look nice biggrin.gif

Sorry, I clicked "edit" on your post by accident.

Doesn't matter. icon_rolleyes.gif

Haha...yea, right. It's always nicer. Alright, those are my question so far..Thanks for helping bro. biggrin.gif

Expensive, increased mine and my partner's bill without telling us, changed our price plan without telling us, doesn't give a toss about existing customer by offering crappy deals but offers wonderful deals for new customers and unhelpful customer service.

O2 is pretty alright as I haven't had any problems with them so far and they have been very helpful when I needed to transfer my phone number.

I see. Which means things we were examined in ECUK papers also equivalent to a Master. Roughly how much does each paper costs?

Added on September 24, 2008, 2:34 am
Yea, that's what worrying me. Even my dad asked so.  tongue.gif

Added on September 24, 2008, 2:37 amOh yea, if i've already titled as CEng, Does it matter if i have a BEng only, while the rest are BEng, Msc, CEng or MEng, CEng?
*
ECUK is a professional qualification whereas Master degree is a academic qualification. the things you have learned from and processes toward both qualifications is quite different, so as the skills you attained.

Like said CEng is a professional qualification, it shows that you have qualified as a chartered engineer, doesnt matter previously you have had a BEng only or PhD.

Never really needed one before. I wear normal shoes only, even during winter.

QUOTE(Geminist @ Sep 23 2008, 07:39 PM)
ECUK exams is there basically to just top up your education level.  It's a pass/fail thing.  You expect 4 papers + 1 project.  Exams are held once a year around May.

I would recommend getting a Masters if possible because it also has other additional benefits.  One important thing is make sure your MSc. is recognised by the professional body you register to.  It's not that difficult to study while working.  It will only be more challenging if you have to work late, i.e. over 5.30pm until 7pm or 8pm.

I am personally inclined to take MSc instead of MEng as discussed previously.
*
So, you are implying that a recognised master will allow me to skip ecuk exam and register with the body ?

QUOTE(Criptonox89 @ Sep 24 2008, 02:17 AM)
As 1 paper each year, gonna take up 4 years in total, but then one will have enough recognized working experience, and liable to apply for CEng. Correct me if i'm wrong.

*
If im not wrong, I believe they will only start counting the required 4 years experience once you register with them. This means that you only can register with the body after 4 years of ECUK exam plus 4 years working experience making it total of 8 years to obtain the eligibility to apply for CEng.

Correct me if im wrong. Thanks

QUOTE(Geminist @ Sep 24 2008, 02:29 AM)
You are free to take as many subjects as you like within the limit (I recall it's 4).  Your project can go concurrently with your exams.

Yes you can do that.  The ultimate rule is when you apply for CEng, you will need to have a Master's level of education.

Added on September 24, 2008, 2:30 amOh and one more thing, I used to think about continuing my Masters after working when I have the cash.

However, having worked for two years, I have decided to take ECUK exams or part time studies because I don't find going back to university that much interesting as compared to working (experience + income).
*

Hmm, Im not sure whether working while studying is a good choice. But, it is undeniable that doing so will allow me to gain experience and at the same time obtain qualification by the end of your study. However, if you consider the duration to obtain the eligibility to apply for CEng, which is Total duration for ECUK Exam + 4 years working experience, do you think it is worth to wait so long instead of taking a master for 1 year and start counting the 4 years working experience as you can register with the body?

1) I do not know where this registration with them before you start working rule came from. Your work experience will always be true regardless of whether you are registered or not. Also, AFAIK, this 4 years is an arbitrary figure.

If you start taking your ECUK exams in the first year of your work, you need about 2-3 years to complete it (unless you failed some subjects). You can apply for your CEng once you have completed your ECUK exams + when you have enough working experience. This should be about 4-5 years since the first day you start working.

2) People tend to get confused with "register". I am registered with IMechE as an affliate since the first day I started my studies. Most body allows you to do this, so you can do this at an early stage if you're worried.

There are different grades in a professional body. It only matters when you want to apply as a member or your CEng. Most CEng./Member application goes hand in hand.

3) Yes. Your Masters need to be recognised. If you have that, you don't need to take any ECUK exams.

4) I am not aware of any practical class for the ECUK exams, I did all the studies on my own. They have some lecturers email for people to ask question, I sent mine in and non responded.

yes recognised master + professional development + professional review is the usual pathway to CEng.

and yes a minimum of 8 years.

i recommend to do a master degree instead. because you'll learn more skills to master level with a year of study at master level.

There is no requirement for “time-serving”.
Demonstration of competence and commitment is the sole criterion for registration.

Erm, what time serving are they referring to ? ...Does it mean that it has no specific time frame for the professional development section? As long as I able to demonstrate my competence and ability to maintain it, I am eligible for CEng ?

you will get magazine from IEEE weekly IIANM and plenty of guidelines towards the professional development.

usually, people will join IEEE when they are working as a engineer / upon graduation.

I see.

The reason I'm saying this is because in the company I work in, people usually go for CEng. on the 4th or 5th year since they first started working fresh out of university.
