iPhone version 2.1 contains many bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
• decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
• significantly improved battery life for most users
• dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
• improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
• faster installation of 3rd party applications
• fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes if you have lots of 3rd party applications
• improved performance in text messaging
• faster loading and searching of contacts
• improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
• repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
• option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts
• Genius playlist creation

Must I have my iPhone 3G plugged in to download the update from iTunes ?
Can I just download it first ?

You need iTunes 8 and plugin your iphone. Click updates. You can download it and restore it later or update inmediately.

i think wait for pawn release only i update..

I was just wondering is there a way just to download the update on iTunes first without plugging in my iPhone cause my iPhone isn't with me now and then update later.

Well, after few min using it. I can see 100% true as per their said. Need a few hours for give full reviews.

less lags for the sms.. browsing thru sms much much quicker.. less lag.. browsing thru the pages on the phone, page as in app page.. quicker response time..

tengah update now....

3G connectivity improved.. and i think surfing is abit quicker now.. duno yet.. still need to test longer.. maybe coz all the old cache deleted..

still trying to look for the genius option on the iphone.. hmmm.. i scared wait they charge my credit card for downloading songs automatically from itunes.. haha..

Haha no worry no la.. Just play a song and tap to display the lyrics..on the screen u can see the Genius button.

(Try free apps, yep correct)

• fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes if you have lots of 3rd party applications
(need a few days for confirmation)

• improved performance in text messaging
(Just say better tha 2.0.2)

• faster loading and searching of contacts
(Correct)

• improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
(So far, at my home have a good signal strength)

• repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
(Correct)

• option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts
(Not tested)

• Genius playlist creation

After got aifontriji, i restore all my data from aifonej, and o2 also appear. If i change other celcom sim, it is appear as My celcom.

For those with PWNed Iphone2G, if you want to try the new 2.1 FW, you have to UPGRADE instead of RESTORE, else you will have an un-activate phone (emergency call screen). After the UPGRADE, your phone will be activated/unlocked and not jailbroken. Overall the contact search and message lag have greatly improve. If you are confuse on what I am saying here, just wait for the official DEV PWN release for 2.1 FW.

when i was in 2.02 with JB, i cud solve this issue...

ken, you'll be lost jailbreak stuff like cycdia and installer.

upgraded to 2.1 just now. I don't think the back-up time improve a lot. I'm still stuck about 10% done after 15 minutes. I'm going to remove the applications and try sync again.
then add the apps back on. Anyway, anyone knows how to SSH to the unpwned-iphone? all the stuffs i install is gone
another thing, how to disable the annoying predictive text ?

for me,
backup is definately faster.
battery life seems better too, normally if you leave it overnight you will see the battery level drops.
exchange sync is much smoother.
sms lag is improved slightly.

Yup, backup is very very fast now Another improvement is directly downloading app from iPhone is much more faster than previously. I update a few apps on my iPhone directly and all went well.

Iam very sorry for this newbie question, but i cant seemed to remove my audios and photos from my iphone even after i resync it with an empty library on itunes. How do i delete the audios and files? You guys have msn? its easier to communicate.

I have a PWNed iPhone 2G v2.0.1.
Question is, do I need iTunes 8.0 to do the UPGRADE or my iTunes 7.7 will work just fine?

i upgraded ipod touch 1.1.5 liberty jb to 2.1 already. so far so good!

Yes, you can update from your pawned iPhone to firmware 2.1 and remain unlocked but third-party apps from jailbreaking will be gone.

hehe.... Now I am thinking if I shud upgrade it since jb is not too important...

I'm thinking to update to firmware 2.1, but my videos rely on MxTube. I only have Cydia & Installer and I'm okay if both is gone cause now I rely more on App Store.

when upgrading to firmware 2.1, how about the "app support" for most countries..??...

do we have to, or no to this new firmware?

Hey..anybody with a jb/unlock 1st gen tried to upgrade to 2.1fw?
Wah really tempting if still unlocked after upgrade..

You can upgrade but you will not be able to access the root data in your phone via any iphone softwares.
