In our tests with a Radeon HD 4870 Accelero Twin Turbo achieved a performance worst than ATI’s stock cooler when we connected the reviewed cooler to the standard fan connector available on the video card (the temperature of the air being thrown out of the system dropped dramatically, however, from 63º C to 51º C). So we recommend you to connect the reviewed cooler directly to the system power supply.
--
a 10 degree drop, is that it?? and thats with a fan! S1 accelero drops it to like 40 degrees.

think again b4 installing the far cry 2 hotfix.
there is some report on the hotfix being buggy result in missing texture & transparent rock.
in short, it sacrifice IQ for FPS.

Catalyst 8.10 hotfix kidnapped stones in Far Cry 2

Far cry 2 was released on Oct 22nd, and AMD reacted quickly this time by releasing a hotfix driver, optimized for Far cry 2. You can check the release note for details. We compared Catalyst 8.10 and the hotfix, it does help the game to get higher FPS.

Benchmark platform:

Intel Core 2 Duo E5200
ASUS Striker II Extreme
PowerColor Radeon HD 4830
KingSton DDR3 1066 1GBX2

user posted image

Yes the driver can boost FPS of Far cry 2, but do you still remember Furmark? Catalyst has “profiles”, which they can tweak different applications by monitoring name’s of executable, making them run slower or faster. And yes, you have to pay if it runs faster.

If we rename furmark, it runs hotter than keeping the name with ATI cards. It works the same with Far Cry 2. Under hotfix environment only rename it and the game runs as the same FPS as with Cat 8.10.

So, we take a better look at the environment, finally find out hotfix have chopped something off from the game. Read this pics:

hm, i need the extra slot for a sound card.

btw, what temps are you getting and what is your noise level?
*
hardly notice wit 100% fan speed.

i can run my 4870 OC till 865/1100 wit 100% fan speed.
idle temperature is ~40c, stress test is ~55c.
but everytime i check the temperature after hours of gaming..................it nvr goes >45c.................... thumbup.gif

all dis temperature is non air con environment.

btw,
i still think the hotfix is not worth applying.
basically improvement is just 2 ~ 3 frames.
improvement only noticeable in high resolution..........

able to get 800/1000 to pass 3dmark 06, max already i think
still, this is a big step from my 1950 CF, my monitor only 1440 x 900, 4870 is sort of overkill already haha

looks pretty good to me, as long as the load temp is not more than 80, then it should be fine. but it really depends on what u expect from the akasa neo though. did u oc your 4870?

btw, ur using your hp to post this message eh? brows.gif
using pc to post the messege hehe coz I'm at home.
It beats the ati reference cooler at idle temp. But still a bit hot to me...

QUOTE(owikh84 @ Oct 30 2008, 08:11 PM)
I heard Akasa Vortexx NEO is not good for 4870.
For some reasons the cooler is kinda worse than ATI ref cooler.
so what it is best use for? 8800GT?

okay i'm going to try something different. I don't like having to manually adjust my fan with catalyst (loading a preference) when I have to play heavy duty games.

Do you guys know a ati fan tool that adjusts the fan depending on the temperature of the card?

lets say, if it <90 degrees then the fan is at 55%, at >90 degrees it will jump to over 100 %

btw, i think i found my problem!!

I had SPEEDFAN installed and i set it to automatic. It was regulating my internal fans, therefore i think the temperatures in my computer were unbelievably hot. i disabled it now.
