erm....look like the best must buy still Rm1549 unit tongue.gif tongue.gif

Are you sure? brows.gif

RM1649 CQ40-126AU = 250GB HDD, HD3450 with 256MB dedicated
RM1549 CQ40-115AU = 160GB HDD, HD3200 shared

willkhor, I'm absolutely sure that the 133/34AX can support 4GB.

126AU =250HDD, but with HD 3200 only...

what if i install window XP only.. how many RAM is enough?

you use 667 or 800 RAM?
*
Oh didn't notice the AU. Thought it's the AX.
Yes I'm using Vista x64. Running as smooth as silk.

edit:
Wait, so it's a new model then? Can't find it in HP online store even.

eh, found it. tongue.gif

Yup, the AU versions use HD3200. As stated in HP's website.

QUOTE(luotang @ Dec 5 2008, 11:26 PM)
After doing research and comparing all branded notebook, I think compaq presario CQ40 is very suitable to me, in price and also specification.

I have some question to ask:
1. How can the price in pc fair much lower than in the hp website? How can they do that? Is the notebook a totally new notebook?
2. Can I customize my specification, as what I can do when buying dell notebooks? e.g. I want to change my harddisk size etc.

*
1. Try calling HP directly and ask, I'm sure they are well aware of these ridiculously low prices. It could even be an official promo, minus the official announcement. tongue.gif
To me this is normal, we're reaching the end of the year and by 2009 newer models with better specs will be coming out. And when that happens it'd be harder to clear old stocks.

Regarding whether the notebook is brand new or otherwise, that depends on the seller. In this case I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

2. Not possible, fullstop.

It has always been like that. And this 'non-customization' is not exclusive to HP Compaq.

No you can't.
Why would you want to buy rams from them anyway? It's way more expensive. When I bought my notebook at a HP store I asked the salesperson whether they're selling rams as well. I was holding quite a few pricelists in my hand when I asked. The guy straightaway said "they sell way cheaper, better buy outside".

No the bluetooth is built-in, can't ask for it. If you want you can buy a bluetooth dongle or something.

Yes you can change the ram, and it is always cheaper to buy outside.
Look at the benchmark in the first page. DDR2 800MHZ x 2 sticks is better. It's not a massive leap though.

I suggest you read through the whole thread. Try like 10 pages first. biggrin.gif

If you notice on HP's site many of the CQ40s are stated as having MAX 2GB memory, including 125/26/33/34AX. Contrary to their specifications, many of us here are using 4GB with no limitations. Well, except for those on x86.

i'm curious why a lot of ppl say 64-bit OS no go???
i'm using it now, and its just same as 32-bit OS.... sweat.gif driver is not a problem, u can always download from hp support page...
the software?? there is WOW64 for 32-bit software to use....
*
Yeah I was curious about that too.
Perhaps they haven't tried?
Before I've actually tried using x64 OS I've heard many people saying things like 'compatibility problem', 'not stable', etc. But I made the leap anyway (XP 64 and Vista 64), and my programs and games work fine.

Whats the eSata for anyway?
*
I'll just answer this part.
In layman's terms, eSata is the fastest interface for external hdds (mostly). Think of it as a faster version of usb or firewire. You can actually edit a HD video directly from an eSata hdd. For more info, google. biggrin.gif

I have a prob. Mic isn't working. Running on Ultimate 64bit. Please help. Thanks in advance

Mine is working since day one. Driver problem perhaps?
Oh wait, are you referring to the built in mic beside the webcam?

Anyway go to control panel > sound > recording > and check whether the mic is set up correctly.

Hey spade, you should try your luck and get those rams exchanged. I think it shouldn't be a problem, as long as you have the receipt.
