Hi guys,
I'm planning to purchase a new system. Core2Duo 8400 Asus P5Q 2x2GB Corsair XMS Gainward 4850GS I'll reuse my sata hdd,dvdrw and soundblaster. However, i'm wondering if my current powersupply - CoolerMaster RealPower 450W can cope with the Gainward 4850GS because of its weak 12v rails. Anyone using this powersupply w/ the 4850GS? Thanks in advance. |

@SyriuS
Just play safe and get at least 550w of true power psu. If u are on a budget try one of those Huntkey Greenstar but judging from ur shopping list there i think u can fork out the dough for either a Corsair or a Silverstone. |

Guys, on funny note, I never experience any blackouts with 8.8 Catalyst on Vista. I set all maximum on Assassin's Creed. It's not that smooth especially when on the top of tower (eagle vision) but close on the streets and fightings are fine enough, very well playable. So far, I only tested Assassin's Creed. Perhaps Vista has better power management compared to XP?

What has power management got to do with blackout? The blackout isn't a crash or something... is just like a sudden lost signal to the monitor (but there is signal..just showing black).

Hi all, thanks for the replies.
So, anyone using a CoolerMaster 450W to power a core2duo system w/ 4850GS successfully? If not I'll look for a corsair powersupply. This post has been edited by SyriuS: Sep 14 2008, 01:54 PM |

Hey guys,
Not to berate or put down any brands but I think you all should really check if the PSU you are buying is really "TRUE POWER". Ask around, Google it and check reviews for the brand/model you have in mind. PC without display due to insufficient power to the VGA is not so bad, the worse case is those with "barely" enough power that you get display but also all kinds of problems: lags, jagged lines, artifacts, flickers, blackouts and funny sounds (1 Gainward user here has this). Having said this, beware of new brands like Huntkey. I'm not saying it's bad, although I myself heard many things on this brand from industry sources. I'm just saying do more asking. All the best. |

QUOTE(picksickrick @ Sep 14 2008, 11:32 AM) who said so????i can run it as a gaming machine with just 2gb of ram. no slowdown whatsoever and if u have a 4000 series card im sure u have at least a dual core and 2gb of ram so that memory hog thing is not a problem. |
