QUOTE(lolhalol @ Sep 12 2008, 10:22 AM)
are u using the 32 bit drivers. or the 64 bit drivers?
*
64 bit drivers of course smile.gif

Anything else that I can try. Already tried turning aero off, and that didn't work either.
Btw, right now downloading the hotfix patch for ati 4800 series from ati, will let you guys know how that goes.

hmm, maybe bios update (for the mobo?) might work? not so sure though...i though drivers for both 32 and 64 r the same? (since ccc always has 32_64 thingie on their release)

The bios have already been updated to the latest ver. I have 3 more things to try:

1) Try removing 1 of the rams, as xchoit suggested
2) Try the hotfix driver from ati
3) Format cry.gif

If they don't work, I dunno what I'm gonna do..........

Actually, I upgraded from an nVidia card; and didn't format my PC when I had the HD4850GS installed. So my problem might be software related, but I can't be sure. That's why I am uninstalling the driver and going to run the driver cleaner tonight.

Just wanted to be sure, this issue does not mean that my 4870 is faulty right? Just some half assed work from ati/microsoft?

To Tesla_rage and those experiencing blackouts (regardless of brands), please check:

1. PSU not enough power (unlikely if you use true power 500W and above - depending on other items in your rig too).

2. Pirated Windows XP Pro. Very few thought of this: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...1600&sec=nation

3. Unstable driver. Try using CCC 8.7 first. Play some games, don't use those benchmarking apps like Furmark. If games ok, then keep 8.7
Make sure your folder & registry is clean from previous drivers. Use http://www.ccleaner.com/

We are studying your problem now. Give us some time to get back to you. Do you see any artifacts/funny characters on your screen?

Please relax bro. No need to post same thing so many things. We sold hundreds of 4850 GS and we know there are many users with 4GB. It should work fine. We are taking note of cases like XChoit but it's not easy to determine if a problem is Apps/OS/Driver or Hardware-related.

Just feel safe to use 4GB with 4850 GS like many others.

Thank you everyone for the feedbacks, and thanks to those who try to help others. notworthy.gif

hi,

this is my first post here. i'm from the Philippines and i just got my Gainward 4850 Golden Sample from my friend in Singapore (no distro here of Gainward). I have yet to install it coz i'm still waiting for my PSU (Corsair hx620w), my current PSU is a 500w generic PSU bundled with my matx casing.

i've been a lurker for quite a while now, because i'm searching for comments/feedbacks on the GS, and I think the consensus has been great. really looking forward to using the new video card.

btw, does any one here know the Gainward 4850 Golden Sample review in a foreign language?? can't seem to locate it again. i remember correctly that i've seen the link here in Lowyat.

regards to all!!!

Netraid, if play games don't have but when using stressing software got means the card is faulty free? sweat.gif

The blackout appears when I use MSAA8X in furmark, but doesn't appear if MSAA is disabled. Maybe this should help you guys in figuring out what might be causing it.

Bout the pirated windows thingy, I'm running on an legit copy but still experience the blackout. Blackout does appear in games (occasionally) when I enable anti aliasing to the max. Only happens to games that really stress the GPU like Crysis. (for the sake of trying out ._. I set AA to 8x lol. fps was hovering around 25-30 ._. all on high since I only have DX9, WinXP sad.gif ). Blackout did happen after half an hour of play or so though. Screen went all black just like signal was lost, and comes back maybe 1 or 2 seconds later.

Yes thats exactly the symptom I am having now.

Mass Effect - right after loading a saved game, I will have to press ESC, and then wait until the screen comes back
Spore - while playing the game

Come to think of it, I did put max AA for both games.

Netraid,

No worries, I will do everything possible to get rid of the blackouts and will report my findings. So far, I really believe the culprit is software-based.
