Any student from RMIT? I'll b going to RMIT coming feb. Question is about accommodation, whether I should book a place in the village or rent a room/house with some friends? But I do not have friends going along with me at this moment.
I'm taking Interior Design course, which gonna be in city campus, any suitable area/place to stay in?

QUOTE(haya @ Sep 4 2008, 03:27 PM) I need to extend 1 semester due to failure and need to extend my visa. What I need to do?Extension would means you'll need a new new visa and another ~AUSD500 for it. You will need to do another health check as well. credit: Lowyat.Net Members Hey guys, I was reading through the first few posts and noticed this statement. I know that in order to get an extension for your visa, you would have to go through another health check, but I've never heard of having to pay for a new visa. Can someone verify this for me please? (:

(: According to the Immigration website: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i/stude...isa-charges.htmExtending your visa is the same as applying for a new visa apperently. Currently it costs $450 for a new one. You should have paid something like that when you applied to study in Australia. However, I do know of some agents who will absorb the visa application fee from Malaysia. Best is to call the department (131881), but be prepared to be put on hold forever. (Y'know, gov depts.) Make sure you have plenty of call credit, or alternatively call from a public phone.

After all, anything can happen in two years time. =P Another question, does anyone own a car while studying in Australia? Was wondering if anyone knew the procedure and the extra cost to pay for shipping a car back to Malaysia.

i just extended my visa last month.
and yes it's like applying for a new visa. you pay AUD 450 for a new visa, around AUD 250 for the health check, and make sure your health cover is up to date
and i wasn't put on hold for long. maybe a minute or so of waiting before i was speaking to the immigration department over the phone

I dont think anyone stays in UNSW's on campus accommodations.Frankly saying,it's very hard to secure a place in one of those places. Im currently staying somewhere near UNSW.15-20 minutes walk to uni.

UNSW is a study hard, party hard environment. It's the motto anyway. The uni is well-known for its constant stream of exams and assessments. It also has the highest Asian student population, which is why you'd probably feel the pressure

Urgghhh 700 AUD so much money AUD 700 covers just the visa and the health check (health check is AUD 234, standard across Aus if i'm not mistaken cause you'll be doing the health check with HSA). you also need to remember on your health cover, which is AUD 185 for 6 months (if you're going with OSHC). Adding on top of what Cheesenium and Chris have mentioned, IH only accepts 2nd year students and above, which means you can't apply for it for your first year study here.

They also accept first year students but it's much harder for a first year to get a place there than a 2nd year and above. It's really hard to get a place in those places because there are a lot of people who wants a place there.I think there are one or 2 colleges that demands you to get at least one Distinction per semester. Basically,it's harder to get accepted in those colleges than the uni. I think none of us are staying in any UNSW on campus accommodation.
