Anyone studying petroleum engineering in Australia?
*
From what I know, there is only 3 University that offers Petroleum ENgineering.
1. University of Adelaide (Reputable ENgineering School)
2. University of New South Wales (Largest Engineering Faculty in Australia)
3. University of Western Australia.

All the above university are group of eight University so all of them are reputable and research-intensive university.

I have also put in my application to uwa and uni of adelaide for chemical engineering - 2009 intake. Like you, I have not decided whether to go to Adelaide or Perth so I put the application in first and decide later if and when I receive an offer from them.  According to the universities 2009 brochures, it seems the total cost of studying in Uni of Adelaide is cheaper compared to UWA.

My parent has put an estimated budget of AUD 400 per week to study at UWA and AUD 300 per week to study at Uni of Adelaide as cost of living (including accomodation). Anyone can tell me if these amount are sufficient.
Lemonfish - Are you also studying engineering (what engineering).  Mind sharing your experience studying in Uni Adelaide with us.  How's the lecturers, accomodation, availability of part-time jobs, industrial placement, etc, etc.

Hmm...AUD 300 a week is enough but I am using roughly AUD 350....Maybe because I am a big spender and staying in Hostel which is a bit more expensive. BTW, I am not enroll in University of Adelaide degree course yet. I am studying Foundation under a subsidary college called Badford College which is located in University of Adelaide campus. I will be like you enrolling for First Year Engineering in 2009. The lecturers in Engineering Faculty is good and well-experienced according to my house mates who is doing Civil Engineering there. They have a few numbers of CHINESE LECTURER which is DAMM GOOD. Basically, there is a few accomodation option in Adelaide which you can choose from. But University accomodation tends to be more expensive than self-renting with friends.

Hmm.,... Part-times jobs is available and you can work up to 20 hours a week generally. Some of my friends work in Hungry Jack and Subway. As the University is located in North Terrace, it is within walking distance to Adelaide Central Business District. So finding a work will not be a problem.

I am not quite sure about Industrial Placement but I think they have it as I saw some of the senior have to undergo Industrial Pratical for 6 weeks during the 4th Year.

Basically AUD 300 is enough for a student to survive in Adelaide. So don't worry to much about the part-time job. Where are you from? Maybe if I am moving out of the hostel we can stay together. icon_rolleyes.gif

Ok....I am currently doing my Foundation in Bradford College under University of Adelaide. I have decided to go for Civil & Structural Engineering. I have 4 option as listed below:

1. University of Adelaide
2. University of Queensland
3. University of Technology Sydney
4. Queensland University of Technology...

So here comes the questions. All the university above offer a 4 year engineering course except for University of Technology Sydney. UTS offers 5 years engineering course with 1 year internship which will then led to Bachelor of Engineering in Civil & Structural together with a Diploma in Engineering Practice.

Do you guys think is worth to do the 5 year degree course in UTS or I should just do the normal 4 years engineering degree and do a Master in UK or US.....Which school do you think is the best for enginineering course? I am refering to undergraduate teaching and student experience and not the conventional ranking method which I personally think is BIAS since some University might have good research background but weak in developing the potential of undergraduate students.

Thank you for your attention.
