i can give thumbs up for Philips TV in general. though havent seen that model you mentioned. those PF9XXX series should be very good.

i had a mind set to get a sony V series TV when i was shopping for it 2 years ago....till i saw the Philips sitting beside it with better picture quality.

Bro steventanz....another dude recommend you LX800. I saw the PQ getting better today (after 3 days). The astro or dvd color no longer wash out. Skin tone getting better. Growing impatient waiting for monster s-video cable. Would get myself 37" also if I don't already have another 40" lcd.

Oh! Right, you are correct.
Almost forget that Plasma has better color/black level, which show smooth color/black tone where LCD not able to reach this level.

Maybe can explain in this way:
Plasma almost able to reproduce all the colour whatever the source is, but LCD's 8bit/10bit panel that had very limited color/black level range. In order to display the whole picture which had too much colour, it will try to round up/down some of the color pixel to the nearest one, which make the color looks obvious. Some more LCD always use dynamic contrast to sharpen the picture which make it 'WOW' in some case but make it worst if the source is so bad.

BTW, peoples keep saying that LCD is not fast enough that's why has Motion Blur effect. But what I heard is, it is not the problem of the speed, it is because LCD do not have screen-door effect, which keep the whole picture on at every moment. So, the problem is human's eye. When the picture light stay too long in your eyes, you will have some kind of image memory effect in your brain, that's when the picture frame change to next, you have both frame in your mind which cause the blur effect. Is is true ?
And that's why lot of LCD now start implement 100Hz, which is either insert a 'calculated' image or a black image to shorthen the time of each frame on the screen to prevent memory effect.

I turn off the Intelligent Frame Creation in the panasonic plasma and now my movie looks like movie. To me, 100hz is not a plus. How can you interpolate in between frame? You can't create something out from vacumn. That's why we are so particular on 1080p/24hz support. If it is 24 frame per second, then I want my tv to show it at 24 frame per second. Not 100 frame per second based on 100hz technology.

Note: Panasonic IFC = Samsung AMP = 100hz intermediate frame interporlation = bad... You can check out avsforum and a lot of pro turn off this offending technology. They also turn off automatic color management and dynamic contrast as it sometime make the movie worst. Native contrast would be the best.

I think game mode they jack up the contrast/brightness and the gamma curve is out of whack. That's why it looks eye catching at first but after a while, you will feel that the color is not natural and the contrast is out.

Just because the pro turn it off does not mean you have to follow them. I for once see (not think) that I like the color better with automatic color management so I leave it on. So basically its up to you and its better to have the option but not use it rather than want to use it but not having it.

Assuming you are buying for watching movies, Picture Quality (PQ) is by far the most important. All the tech terms in the world does not matter if the picture doesn't look good. Don't buy on brand. Use your eyes and audition every set carefully with multiple sources. Get the set with the most pleasing PQ to your eyes. Take your time and go to many shops. It will get fun after a while when you start noticing how different TVs look different.

FullHD is only useful if you are watching Blu-Ray sources, playing PS3 or using as a large monitor. If watching DVDs or Astro, HD-Ready sets frequently look better because you don't have to upscale so much from the base resolution.

Guys,

Is the JJusco promotion for Panny PV8/80 still on now? Which JJusco is the best? I read that JJusco in Wangsa Maju give only 5% while JJusco in 1-U give 10%. Please advice.

Thanks...

Because pro are complete anal about getting the most color accurate as intended by director. There's no right or wrong. If you like it, keep it.

Can I ask sifu here, in terms of picture quality, whats the Major difference betw these panny plasma u mentioned? Among PV8/80/800.

I am now sort of choosing betw a plasma and a samsung series 550 LCD.
Mainly for movies, Astro, & hopefully BD in future.

If you're not a gamer, skip the LCDs and buy the best Plasma you can afford.

PY800 = FullHD+everything
PV8 = HD-Ready
PV80 = PV8+contrast detection system+card slot+swivel stand
