Better but not astoundingly better...just better If you don't need the SACD/DVD-A capability....5986K is the best bang for your money.

compare 1080p upscaled thru 5986k to cap ayam thru component cable, how is the difference between ? the reason i ask this because when I went to shops that played my DVD9 copy, thru 1080p upscaled hdmi, and compare to when i played at home thru component cable by the cap-ayam, I really can't tell very "much" difference. Maybe my mind cannot remember well and long enough.

Bad cable Added on May 6, 2009, 6:27 pmSeriously to compare between 2 players...everything else must be the same from source, cables to display unit. Only then you can pass judgment. You can't compare between shop and your home This post has been edited by arremie: May 6 2009, 06:29 PM

one thing is, my cap ayam got no hdmi port but only component. if the difference not much then no point to spend few hundreds just for a little bit better PQ. I am seeking opinions....

I am seeking opinions.... From my opinion, the PQ between my former ordinary dvdp player (brand pioneer, forgot the model no.) with 5986K (using HDMI) is totally significant. Even though sdvd upscalling PQ is still far far away compared to BD or HDDVD, but watching hellboy 2 on both player, really can feel the difference.

Hi lordvega, thks for sharing. Looks like got difference, but did you use component cable for your pioneer player ? I tried before, between composite yellow cable and component, they really make difference.

Very good PQ but it doesn't read disc as good as Philip 5986K. In other word its a bit fussy with disc condition.
