1) how does mites and lice bald 1 and not the other male?
2) not too sure what bedding.. can u recognise from the pic? but all awhile my hamster using this bedding
3) i feed them with mixture of sunflower seed (specifically for hamster) + mixed grain + breakfast cereal (contains nuts, raisin etc.. no almond).. sometimes apple, pear, grape, and so on.. so far never feed any citrus fruit
4) how do i see?
5) should be around 1 year old
*
1. If the prob really is mites and lice you should separate the other as soon as possible. They SPREAD. Your other hamster might get it too. And what kinda hamsters are yours? You shouldn't house 1 male and 1 female together cuz then they'll breed non stop and your female will die very fast. Too much breeding in a short period of time shortens her life. Lice, are small grey white things moving in the fur. Mites are too tiny to be seen lor. But does she scratch more often?

2. sweat.gif Taiko, my eyes not so terror. Up close also not sure if I can tell. What is the brand of your bedding?

3. Sunflower seeds are VERY fattening and should not be given too much to hamsters. Makes them fat lar in an unhealthy way. Like junk food. breakfast cereal for human? human food is for human, don't feed to your pets. Human food contains sugar and lots of additives, bad for hamsters and other animals. hmm.gif I don't feed grae to any of my pets. Forgot why. So they don't get raisins either. Why don't you invest in a hamster food brand that is a good balanced mix for your hamster? Like harry hamster or prestige? I know it looks a lil expensive but 1 pack can last so long! Think of it in a long run.

4. See if the skin has reddish or pinkish patches. Other weird colors and symptoms that's not like her actual skin.

5. 1 year still young for any hamster. What breed is yours?

1. Then bring to a vet. It will solve your problem. We obviously are not sure what her problem is.

2. Sweat... Pine and cedar bedding is bad for hamsters. Be careful what bedding you get for your hamsters.

3. They look healthy outside but inside, how sure are you? Their organs may be going into overdrive to digest what you are giving them. If you love them then please consider what is good for their health. Surely you wan them to stay with you a few more years?

4. Then probably not skin disease lor.

5. Dwarf hamster got a few types. Winter White, Russian Campbells, Chinese Dwarf, Roborovski. Which is yours?

Looks a little like an early sign of eye infection. hmm.gif I might be wrong though. Never seen a robo with eye infection that lightly.

lol, you're definitely looking at the right person. Hun has an army of different hamsters. biggrin.gif

hmm.gif BTW guys, I've never seen hairloss on the eyes of 3 years plus robos, approaching their fourth year. The usual is a lil hairloss at the rump, a lil thinner under the chin, the middle of the back...

The condition is totally foreign to me. I don't think it's aging problem. And 1 year old is just middle age for syrian. It's not even old yet. It's super young for a robo of course.

lol. certain bedding is not good. Any bedding with pine or cedar is bad for your hamster. pine bedding creates a kind of chemical that is really bad for your hamster's lungs.

So stick to beddings like chipsi classic or chipsi super.

sand bath wth flavor no problem wat. Why will have problem?

is the chipsi with green apple beeding ok for hamster?

Added on September 8, 2008, 2:12 amI got problem to recognize my hamsters. all are saphire winter white. i can't find any big different even i stay with them for 3 months. somehow the pattern of their coat change when they grow more fur or drop fur >.<
can i highlight them with hightlight pen? (Just asking , don scold me >.<)
*
chipsi with green apple is pine bedding. The wrong bedding can make your hamster's fur fall off also lar besides being bad for its lungs. So don't use ok?

Lol, I dunno about WWs but I could tell all my robos apart from one another. And all robos look the same right? You just have to learn their behavior, the slight difference between each. and no marking is exactly the same. If you know your hammie well you can surely tell it apart from another.

No highlighter please... Newspaper ink is already very bad for your hamster, imagine what highlighters can do to your hamsters...

@ander: 2ft RM 40 I think ok lor. Ask for RM 35, make the boss say RM 38 or something la. tongue.gif

Thanks xiaodan~ I very tired everytime type out how to tame robo. tongue.gif
Robos cannot catch wan. You must make them come to you.

O, Roche and Ferro seem to enjoy frozen smoothie cubes more than melted liquid smoothie.

biggrin.gif It was really funny how Roche wanted to hide her cube of smoothie but dunno where to put it. End up put back on the smoothie dish.

Zomg so cute! Sometimes I give bean frozen also. She likes cold things. Lick non stop.

Lately I have to liquefy it to mix the herb supplement...or else she will eat only the bell papper and avoid the herbs.

Roche must be thinking "THIS IS SO COLD IT HURTS! *puts back"
*
I dunno. It's more like "I gotta hide it gotta hide it" then run too an fro around and around the cage. Dig here dig there with the giant smoothie cube in her mouth. Then she put back on the smoothie dish. laugh.gif

lol. No need to feel offended wan mar. If it works why not? hmm.gif I think it feels safer in its tank so if you can tame it from its tank it will come to trust you. In a ball it feels less safe, so it will turn to you if only there were danger.

Since my aim is to get them to come to my hand from inside their tank, i train like my way lor. But if yours work too i guess can try.

They're so innocent looking, fur so soft, big lovely eyes... And taming them was challenging. Seeing their lifecycle was incredible too.

dwarves definitely suffer more inbreeding...

You see, syrians have many different colors and traits. So they need different colors and traits to produce other colors and traits. Not so much inbreeding I guess.

Dwarves like robos only have 1 type, 1 color. So no one knows or cares if they're inbred. father can breed with mother and daughter and produce pups that all look like normal robos. No variations.

Yesh~ Ferro is so adorable~ He wasn't so adorable in attitude when first brought him back. Now tame dy so very adorable~

welcome to the forum geo! Your suki is too cute!! her color looks like my ferro in the first picture. but the curls are so cute~

@sophiera: From what I know, hamsters that suffer certain severity of inbreeding suffers certain genetic disorders. your bean might be inbred. my friend had an inbred hamster whose back legs went lame at a certain age. it was weird. it didn't drop off but its back legs went lame for no good reason.

Inbred hamsters muscles suffer a shrinkage, fur less dense, size would be smaller too I'd say if it's serious. they age very fast and die in what look like painful breaths.

well, it doesn't matter, sophiera. It's not like you made her this way and you won't love her any less right? Bean's case is special. I never heard of a three legged hamster before.

Just take care of her lor. Make her comfortable. She must be so lucky to have you and your family to care for her through her special condition.

Yes geo, she's cute! and she was a syrian. condolence... 2 years is an old age for syrians.

Ah~ Xiaodan they are so cute!

@geo: Maybe that pinkie was born with a disabled arm. I'm suprised the mum didn't eat it and only took off the arm.
