Then how about providing fresh food? Hamsters get fat on fresh fruits in a good way! And of course smoothie is good too.Chubby Hamster V10, Rolling Fat Furballs

Hmmm... I think the shopkeeper also didn't know lar. It takes a pretty sharp eye to see the difference mar. And shopkeepers usually just dump all the hammies from the same carton and assume it's the same species and dump it all in 1 tank lor.

QUOTE(sky_haunter @ Sep 4 2008, 12:25 PM) any suggestion on how to tame my hamster... Lol, it doesn't happen in one day. You see, your robo really wants the food on your hand but still feel afraid and so is cautious of your hand lor. So just continue to put your hand there. It will come. After coming a few times it won't be scared already (or should I say, less scared). O, and it works faster when you give them nice treats they like, like hamster treats or sweet fruits (my robos used to love watermelon. Maybe cuz I don't offer them that very often?)put some food on my hand...just smell my hand.. then run away.. lol And yes Jayniel, my equation is Love = Patience + Sacrifice |

@moomoomilk: You can feed a wide variety of fruits and vege to your hammies. There are some that you're advised not to feed to dwarf hamsters though. I think it's on the first page. As for diarrhea, to prevent it, just slowly introduce vege and fruits it will be ok. |

If you're talking about the vegetarian formula, I already bought it since I started using smoothie and have been feeding it to them everyday. My Roche likes it a lot and will take it raw (no need add anything, just powder), with water, with honey, and with smoothie.
My Ferro only takes it with smoothie. Or you're talking about something new? Okok. thanks nezu. Will get it from pet shack. This post has been edited by Jamien: Sep 4 2008, 10:49 PM |

My syrians never had vege before they came home with me, so their introduction is like:
Nezu's smoothie ---> fruits and sweet vege -----> green leafy vege So basically, for those non vege eaters you can always try feeding them smoothie first. I find it is easier to accustom them to the idea of taking vege. |

^ If you take out the sunflowers they'll have no choice but to eat the others. Don't worry. I used to remove the sunflower seeds too and offer them as treats when it was taming time or teaching tricks.

QUOTE(iluv2zzz @ Sep 5 2008, 01:02 AM) It's normal for her to be picky of her new food and show little interest. My syrians used to take habitrail before they came home with me. So I used a week to let them get used to Prestige which had little kuaci and no visible corn (the ones they're used to). Now they eat without problem lo. |

QUOTE(Sophiera @ Sep 5 2008, 01:51 AM) When I think back about my old hamster I want to cry. I feel so guilty... sigh... it's exactly how my favourite first robo. didn't know what food was good since all brands boast to be the best so only get habitrail... sometimes i will bring whatever vege and fruit i have in m place but since they lived in my bf's place and his mum views it as wasteful they hardly get fresh... throughout her life feed her kuaci and carrot saja with some extra things. Zomg, cage also so small...use newspaper. She was such an adorable and tame syrian, never bite aiyooh... So very sad now... but at lest they had a large tank and accessories all to themselvs. it's a lil sad cuz they never lived long enough to taste smoothie or move to my house. But my syrians and all robos who moved to my place had a good life, although cannot compare with now syrians. I'm learning more and will try to give the best to my pets. I can't give what I never managed to give to my poor first hammies. But I can give to my current hammies and will try my best! |

Wodent wheel is more expensive and of course better.
Basically, silent wheel is like any other wheel except that there's no noise when your hammies are using it. Wodent wheel looks kinda like a film roll. It's front is semi covered with a fwe holes. Perfect for hamsters who live together. When they run together it is possible that one of them may "fly" off the wheel when the other runs too fasst. So wodent can help prevent your hammie from flying off (IMO Also, wodent wheel is no noise and also very stable lar. It's recognized as a safe wheel for small animals to use by the ASPCA. |

^ Lol, my robos used to be like that. That's why I share experienced. Al 4 of them will want to run at the same time when 1 fella wants to run. Then we have cases of being pushed off, cannot follow up so drop off, or emergency brake then fly off.
So I bought a BIG wheel for them and they had to use more energy and there was a lot more space so no more such cases lo. Have to say, the only thing a robo loves more than food is the wheel. It's sold only in pet shack. Check this: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=614605&hl= I think you should get wodent wheel junior. But nezu' fatsoso maybe must consider wodent wheel snr? nail-o-matic is for filing their nails. I think hamsters don't need. I use it for my sugar glider.
Yesh the wheel is so nice~ Most expensive wheel ever bought but well worth it! |

^ Er... Hiroko, what kinda hamsters are yours?
Hamsters are afraid of sudden movements. You have to bait them with food everyday on your palm and slowly move a lil bit day by day. Let them get used to you and the fact that you move. |

Means they are getting used to your hand as a food provider. Just gain their trust little by little. I suggest you cut a BIG piece of fruit (for them is big la. Actually not so big.) put on your palm. Make them eat slowly and finish it on your palm. very impatient with the babies lor ...so long time edi still so scare of me .... always run away when see my hand ... SAD |

It could be a lot of things.
Firstly is mites or lice. This usually happens i areas that hamsters find hard to clean. Second reason is wrong bedding. I heard cedar shavings can cause your hamster's fur to fall off. What bedding are you using? Third is improper diet. What are you feeding your hamster? Fourth is maybe a skin disease. Fungus and the such? Fifth, what is the age of your hamster? |
