QUOTE(iluv2zzz @ Aug 24 2008, 05:15 PM) eh, I have been reading hamster thread for awhile now (actually I followed the entire v9) but I still confuse.. I want to ask something.. toilet sand and bath sand what different? Bathing sand is for hamsters to roll in and clean their fur. It's very fine and might even smell nice since it has various flavors. |

My robos poo in the toilet sand and bath in the bathing sand. Fat Fat seems to have found the difference and everyone follows her.
Anyway, for syrians you only need toilet sand. for dwarves must have both lo. It's recommended that you leave the bathing sand for them whenever you change their shavings and take it out after half an hour or less. |

QUOTE(soul_star @ Aug 24 2008, 09:14 PM) It's actually very simple. They sleep together because it is cold and huddling together is warmer. And they fight because they're syrians and they don't like each other. Syrians are solitary by nature. Just because they sleep together doesn't mean they need or want to be with each other. If there were other places your syrians could go, they would not be together but you force them to be together when you house them together. To avoid injury and possibly death, please separate your syrians soon. |

QUOTE(soul_star @ Aug 24 2008, 09:39 PM) it's a shop in sec 17.When my mom says want to buy 1 pair she doesnt say anything. So i ask her is it ok to house 1 pair syrians, then she nod nod. Well, as I mentioned earlier, cages, they can keep for a long time. Syrians, no one wants them when they get older so must clear off fast. They'd tell you anything to sell more so they don't rugi. If you think properly, she isn't exactly lying. You asked her if they can be housed together. Petshops house them together. It can be done. But the syrians are not happy like that and are under a lot of stress when they're housed together. It frequently leads to fighting, injury, disease, death when housed together. So can they be housed together? Why, yes. But if you want your syrians to survive, not get hurt and be happy and not kill each other, no you can't house them together. |

Feed a lot of vege and fruits. But make a slow introduction lar so that your hamsters don't get diarrhea.
Feeding Uncle Taro's nutri-smoothie also helps make hamsters chubby. |

I left my hams for about 4 days and left them 2 bowls worth of dry food each with a full bottle of water. They survived ok and still recognized me when I came home.

@aeon: I think that just means you have winter white hamsters. Pet shops like to create fancy names.
@soul: Well, I just get my hamsters to climb on my hand. That step is very important because that probably determines how tame your hamster is. Then when they get on my hand, I just pet them and brush them with a toothbrush. I am still trying to get them to do tricks but Roche don't get anything besides "hang" and Ferro just looks at the treat. |

Well, I keep telling him "stand" while dangling the treat a little above him. He just stays very still and stares at the treat.

QUOTE(jayniel @ Aug 24 2008, 11:24 PM) Lol, if you mean in an amusing way. Dwarves can only be handled for a period of time each day. Most of them aren't very comfortable with humans petting them too much. Syrians are ok with it frequent handling. |

Well it depends on how hot the enclosure is for your hams.
When my robos were placed outdoors, they drank a lot. Robos tend to sweat a lot. So they need to drink a lot. When they lived indoors, they drink less. |

A small 100 ml bottle is more than enough. Just get one that doesn't leak ok? Or the one that comes with habitrail cages is good too.

Why don't you just get a tank criollo?
Anyway, a guy just put some RC hamsters up for adoption. Anyone interested can go have a look. |

Well, that's part of taming.
Put some food on your hand and try to tempt her to get on your hand. make sure you keep your hand very still. When she gets used to climbing on your hand for food, try to move it a little higher. When she panics, let her go back into her cage. And try the not moving hand thing again. Love = patience + sacrifice. Patience will yield a good result. Patience is a virtue. Understand that your hamster will get freaked out by a giant hand right? |

QUOTE(iluv2zzz @ Aug 24 2008, 11:57 PM) Still thinking if I really want to get dwarf hammies Dwarves like robos are small and quick. They're harder to tame and are more challenging. |

She means robos, ander. My hand tamed robos are usually ok with strangers but will be more cautious then when I handle them myself.
Of course getting a fatsoso is good but other syrians don't hurt either. And I'm quite sure yesterday was Roche's first heat. I handle her everyday and that's the first time I smell something that bad from her. |
