Welcome to my humble world of working out. For those who know or don't know me, I used to be very fat. However, I managed to shed off 20++kg which was like a dream come true. That was my first goal and I managed to achieve it with proud. Anyway, I'm setting my new goal now, which is:

GOALS:
1. Substitute those leftover fats with muscle mass.
2. Build a nice and defined abdominal muscle.
3. At least has 3 girls having a crush on me and I'm that insensitive jerk who has no clue about it or don't have the slightest feeling for them.
4. Kill a boar with my bare hands.
5. World domination with my sweet sweet muscle.

Ok. That's about it. I think I'm gonna have some problems with goal number 3 but others sound alright.

1st Day 16/08/08 (Prepare to face hell)
Workout:
7:00am - 1 hour of jogging. When I feel tired, I just walked until my strength recovered.
Exceptionally tiring since this is my first day or working out. My legs are so sore that I wobbled when I stood.

12:00am
Sit-ups - 50 times
Crunches - 50 times
I slept very late because I have some readings to do. Before sleep, I always do crunches and sit-ups. It's has become my habits.

Meals:
08:00am - 1 bowl of cereal, 1 glass of milk.

12:00pm - Bread with peanut butter and cheese.

06:00pm - Wantan Noodles.

Oh shit, I actually ate 3 meals shocking.gif . Ok, 1 to be precise. Oh, I remembered, I was watching 2 movies with my friends at KLCC, WALL - E and Zohan from 1pm to 6pm. The movies were nice. It's totally understandable to skip meal. whistling.gif

Oh this is the picture of me taken by my webcam. It's kinda blurry but if you take my picture with a high-tech ultrashot camera with supreme sharpness, you can actually see my distinct features of Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Too bad it was taken by a webcam but I still look nice. This is a photo of me collapsing in front of my books when I was so tired reading them for 3 hours.

Added on August 19, 2008, 10:18 pm2nd Day 17/08/08 (Meeting the Big Daddies for the First Time)

My very first day of gym. I was really excited. ( Excited as in 99.9% nervousness, 0.01% feeling troublesome) It's like a feeling of helplessness as you're walking to a butcher factory.

Meals:
08:00am
A bowl of cereal, a glass of milk, 2 hard boiled eggs and a piece of bread. (Pre-workout meal)

10:00am
A glass of milk and some breads. (Post-workout meal)

06:00pm
Chicken fried rice with Ice lemon tea.

Wow, look at it, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out that this diet is such a mess. From 10am to 6pm, I was so absorbed in reading that I forgot to eat. doh.gif

Workouts

8:00am
Since it was first day, I didn't really know what to do and what not to do in the gym.

Squat
Just testing my strength first without the weights.
2x15 (Just the iron bars)
2x15x5kg (OMG, I suck)

Bench Press
4x15x5kg (I totally suck. Even with this weights, I had trouble passing the last 3-4 repetitions)

Deadlift
4x15x10kg

Seated Overhead Press
2x15x5kg
2x12x5kg (I got lazy and super tired)

Chins
0 ohmy.gif
The website states that I should do 12 reps of chins in my first month of workout. WTF!!! I just skipped it.

Crunch (My favourite work out)
4x20

Cycling 20minutes

12:00am
50 sit-ups
50 crunches

I felt like shit after the workouts. My whole body hurt and I just laid on my bed reading. I couldn't stand or walk.

Added on August 19, 2008, 10:58 pm3rd Day 18/08/08 (Pain and Sore Day)
Workout:
08:00am
1 hour jogging
This was super exhausting. I hated it. The pain and soreness from yesterday workout won't subside. Damn it, I had to carry the pain while running. The progress was much much slower. I felt like my legs were broken off once I finished my mark.

12:00am
50 sit-ups
50 crunches

Meals:

09:00am
2 hard boiled eggs, 1 bowl of cereal, 1 piece of bread, 1 glass of milk. (This breakfast is getting monotonous, I want to eat something else)

12:00pm
I glass of milk, bread with tuna.

06:00pm
Black pepper fish rice.

8:00pm
Bananas and milk.

Crap. No veggies. I really need to cook at home instead of eating outside.

Added on August 20, 2008, 12:31 am4th Day 19/08/08 (Crowded Day)

Meals
10:00am
Woke up really late. I was having insomnia due to the throbbing pain at my leg muscle.
2 hard boiled eggs, 1 bowl of cereal, 1 glass of milk, 1 piece of bread.

02:00pm
Thai chicken chop rice, some veggies

05:00pm
1 glass of milk, bananas (pre-workout meal)

07:00pm
Chicken wing rice, Ice lemon tea (post-workout meal)

12:00am
A glass of milk

Workouts:

05:00pm
Bench press
4x15x5kg

Squat
4x15x10kg

Deadlift
2x15x10kg
1x12x12.5kg
1x10x15kg

Barbell curl
2x15x10kg
1x12x12.5kg
1x10x15kg

Tricep Extension
1x12x10kg

Chin
0, again

20 reps crunches

20 minutes cycling

12:00am
50 sit-ups
50 crunches

Today was a really busy day. I stayed at the college library from 11am to 4pm just to study for my exam. It's getting harder and harder to keep on. By the way, the gym is pretty crowded.

you can actually skip chins, it requires great strength on arms and back to do chins/pull ups. for now, you should concentrate on strengthening your core first.

your diet is seriously lack of protein. try to eat at least 6 meals per day. 6 small yet frequent, rich in protein meal. what kinda milk are you drinking? HL milk?

doing 50 situps/crunches wouldnt do you any good. if i were you i'd just straight jump to bed.

Yup, even an idiot knows my meal lacks of protein. My home is lacked of food right now. Heck, I seldom cook. I should go to Jusco and buy some meat but I feel lazy. I drink Dutch Lady Low Fat Milk, it tastes like crap.

6 frequent meals? I don't know whether I can do that. My life revolves around college life and study life. When I'm too absorbed in my work, I usually forgot to eat until my friends remind me.

Hahaha... you look like a baby boar.
You can always eat at college!... In between classes just run to canteen 1 and pick up snacks. I do that too. My diet for example:

Breakfast (At home 6:30am): 3 slices of wholemeal bread with 2 eggs, milk with whey.

9am: 1 packet Tiger Biscuits with Yoghurt/ Milk. (Tiger biscuits give quite a lot of calories)

11am: More bread/ early lunch.

Lunch: (There's not much eggs to be found in canteen 1. So I rely a lot on the Rm0.70 Herbal Egg...)
Kampung Fried Rice (Got 1 fried egg), 2 more herbal eggs.

Then when I go home around 3-4pm I eat again.

You're joking right? To skip chin-ups?
Don't be so sarcastic laaaa....

I'm sure yeahs4.1 doesn't mean what he said, you should keep pulling at chins. Chin ups, are peculiar movements, it's quite a bit of CNS to pull yourself not just arm strength, so if you don't keep doing at it, you'll never develop the kinestesis ability to execute the movement.
On t-nation.com, there's a very good article about pull-ups and how to develop the ability to do them. It's quite comprehensive and detailed.
Do read it.

Was just quoting an example of a lunch. I do eat mixed rice or other stuff sometimes loaded with protein and veggies. And I eat fruits everyday.
I eat dinner at home so there will never be lacking veggies in my diet.

Most of the articles I read talk about the proper ways of doing pull-up/chin-up (btw, what's the difference?). They all assume you actually can pull-up/chin-up but I'm can't complete it even once. cry.gif Should I substitute it for pull-down until I have the strength to manage it?

Chin-up is underhand grip (palms face you). This grip involves the biceps the most. It's easier than other grips. (i can complete it for 2 reps)

Pull-up is overhand grip (as oppose to chin-up). A wide overhand grip is hardest grip to use.

If you can't even do one rep of it, do lat-pull down on the machine.

Or ask someone assists u, u grab the bar, bend your knees 90 degrees, and have a partner place his hands under your shins to boost u from the bottom. (i use this way)

If there's no one there to assist u and no lat-pull down station, push a bench in front of the cage(Smith machine). Reach up to grab the bar, then put your feet on the bench. The bench will support some of your lower body weight so that you aren't pulling up all your body weight. Gain the strenght slowy and you'll finally complete a pull-up on your own! Good luck!

You can do negative chin ups.

Basically stand at the bottom of the bar, jump up and grip the bar. So now you are at the top of the chin up position (as if you've done a chinup.

Now slowly lower yourself down in 6 seconds.

Try to do at least 1 extra rep every day.

This is the best way to be able to do chinups if you train alone. However if you have a partner, do what Vivian says. Let your partner push you up for 12 reps.

Don't rely too much on the lat pulldown machine though.

Thanks for both of your suggestions. I should test it out tomorrow. I just hope I can at least complete 1 chin-up/pull-up.

Ah, well I know how that feels. Felt dumb every time my coach said "Snatch classic, 8x" but I could only do "Power Snatch"

Anyway, here's an excellent guide to pull-ups from t-nation. One of the few T-nation articles that actually contains good information written with modesty and not the "hardcore" mentality and "marketing" idea.

I have absolutely no idea what are you talking about but thanks for effort to cheer me up.

The articles have a lot of useful information and some of them are really good. I think I can do all these except the "nut cracker" part. I don't have a nut cracker lying around in my condominium. Now, I just need to incorporate the new workouts into my new schedule. By the way, do I need to have variety in my workouts, meaning I should not stick to the same workout all the time but change them constantly?

I say just train the muscles hard, heavy and fast. Just do the squats, deadlifts, benchpress, pull-ups (learn to do it) and overhead presses and rows la....Just stick to this for the moment. By the time you stagnant (3 month of consistent training), you'd have learned enough of your body to modify.

That's why, keep training journals. Or you could talk to us about what you'd like to modify.

The trouble is I just don't feel the hunger. Maybe my stomach shrank from all those weight loss. I also have a really really bad habit, if I'm too concentrated on something (reading, revision, doing homeworks, playing games, etc......), I can survive a whole day without food without even knowing it. Scary shocking.gif

Anyway, I just went to Jusco to buy REAL EDIBLE food. I chose plenty of high protein and low fat products. Not much of selections and had to constantly restraint myself from buying coffee (Serious caffeine addict). Looks like I'm gonna cook from now on......sigh.....hope my mother was here.

And yeah_guyz, did you go to the gym on Tuesday? I don't know which one is you, too many people. Are you that super buffed guy with a tough look or that super buffed guy with a tough look who kissed his biceps every 30 seconds. It's too hard to tell the difference. Asking "Hey, are you that guy from the forum who spent countless hours spamming 2000+ posts?" to every guy I met doesn't seem appropriate either. It makes them feel they have no purposes in their life. Anyway, I just posted my picture so that everyone who recognizes me can give me a helping hand to this newbie.

No worry, my diet for tomorrow is not going to be in this way anymore. I think....... or rather I hope........

After browsing through your journal, I like you already. Here's the deal, you can accept whatever training advice given, but if your diet is not dialed in, forget about growing. You are not eating enough, period.

Refer to my journal for samples of my diet. My training regimens may be a tad too advanced for you but it is possible for you to also go on a beginner's bodybuilding split. Adjust it according to your caloric requirements. Don't fret about getting fat from frequent meals, if you work out in the gym with enough intensity, you will be burning off fat and undergoing muscle recomposition.

And no, chins ups are not necessary to build an impressive back. The lat pulldown machine gives you better mind muscle connection (search up the meaning of that). I rarely, rarely do pull ups. Close grip pull downs, wide grip pulldowns, cable rows to the belly, etc. All these contribute to an impressive back. No pull ups, no biggie. No worries.

Your training is "too advanced" for me? I think it's out of my league. When the incredible Hulk underwent your training, he only managed to complete halfway before he dropped dead. I'm too young to die.

QUOTE(darklight79 @ Aug 21 2008, 12:59 PM)
And no, chins ups are not necessary to build an impressive back. The lat pulldown machine gives you better mind muscle connection (search up the meaning of that). I rarely, rarely do pull ups. Close grip pull downs, wide grip pulldowns, cable rows to the belly, etc. All these contribute to an impressive back. No pull ups, no biggie. No worries.
*
My aim of doing chin-up is not to build a ripped back, instead it's about the feeling of accomplishment when you done it. When I was small, I always envy those people who managed to cross the monkey bar in the playground. So, I think I'm gonna keep trying until I get a complete chin-up. Luckily, you seldom do chin-up because with a body like that, you might destroy the bar. flex.gif

By the way, your so called "sample of diet" is insane. 20 eggs per day!!!! I think I will die from egg overdose. Just curious, did you put the eggs in the blender and blend it until it becomes sticky and then you know.......drink it..... EWWWWWW........

I didn't come across any gym that has badminton courts. Anyway, the gym is RM3 per entry. There are ways to come to this gym.

1. Just take the TARC bus (Wangsa Maju) until you reach Metroview Condominium (the next stop after LRT station in Wangsa Maju), the gym is opposite my condominium. It's on second floor and is located beside BRJ (local cafeteria) and many cybercafes. Don't worry, it's not hard to miss.

2. If you take the LRT, stop at the LRT station in Wangsa Maju (obviously), walk along the road with many shop houses and cafeterias at two sides until you reach a junction with traffic light. At the opposite, you can see some big signs (BRJ, Tibun{Cybercafe}, etc), the Alpha is just right there.

3. We can meet up in the college and I can personally that you there.

6th Day 21/08/08 (Stuffing Food Day)

Hehe, I didn't know what came into me today, I was suddenly really hungry, searching for food frantically. Luckily, I bought food supplies from Jusco yesterday just in a nick of time. Maybe, today is my rest day (In term of no revision, no homeworks and light reading) and I was overwhelmed by my hunger since I had a lot of time in my hand. I don't know this good or bad but one thing for sure, I don't want to get fat.

Meals
10:00am
2 hard boiled eggs, a bowl of oatmeal, a banana, a glass of HL milk.

12:00pm
Wholemeal bread with high protein low fat tuna spread, cheese (near zero fat)

02:00pm
Bread with coarse peanut butter.

05:00pm (pre-workout meal)
A glass of HL milk, egg white (yuck......thanks darklight for making me nearly puke, it's like eating your own snot), a banana

08:00pm (post-workout meal)
Grilled chicken breast meat with cabbages with extra garlic and onions. (I cooked it myself and it's delicious. I'm not bragging but I'm an exceptionally good cook and that's one of the reason I used to be so fat)

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

Workouts (Start at 5pm and end at 7pm)

Squat
2x15x5kg
2x12x7.5kg

Bench Press
2x15x5kg
1x12x7.5kg
1x10x10kg

Deadlift
2x15x10kg
1x12x12.5kg
1x10x15kg

Barbell Curl
2x15x10kg
1x12x12.5kg
1x10x15kg

Plank
1x30 seconds
1x20 seconds
1x10 seconds (My legs start to tremble)

Pull-down
2x20x20kg
2x15x30kg

Triceps Extension
1x12x10kg

Dumbbell Lateral Raise
2x15x5kg
2x10x7.5kg

Crunches
2x20

Cycling
20 minutes

I have a question. When I deadlift, do I need to bend my knees or just keep it straight to pull up the weight?

I keep wondering when can I increase the weight, all the people around me are like maniacs, lifting 80kg+ (Shit, that's my mass) as if they are blowing out the candles.

Oh, I think I saw you. Although through my vision, everyone looks similar (A walking and breathing meatstick. Strangely, this only applied when they are larger than me.) You're that Chinese guy who always do squat first the moment you come in right? The one who thinks he's so great just because he can lift heavier weights than most people. Oh yes, I remembered you quite clearly, unfortu....I mean, it's my pleasure meeting you.

Really? I have no idea. I just love tuna. It's still protein and protein's main function: growth and maintenance of muscle. So, I don't think you need to find it from a magazine to know it.

Let see. Salmonella....ah, found it.
Salmonella is a genus of rod-shaped Gram-negative enterobacteria that causes typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, and foodborne illness.

Try not to take raw egg's , it will lead to Salmonella or something like that.

i dont get it, we're giving you suggestion so that you can have the nutrients in better way, better taste and we're considered as 'nagging me like my mum' while you dont blame the method that you saw through TV which carries high risk of getting you warded in hospital for 1 week because of food poisioning?

anyway, for me, no matter how busy i am, i'd try to cook/make my food to be at least no harm to myself. it's not worth risking it. it sucks when i cant train and stop progressing because of illness.

Lol... you don't have to take eggs y'know. There're always other alternatives. Your diet regimen should be enjoyable as a young trainee else you'll lose interest fast, crash and burn out. You can always go for a well balanced meal; chicken and rice then train an hour to an hour and a half later.

You need to bend your legs. Straighten them at the same time as you straighten your torso. Visualize yourself pushing your legs into the ground. Here're 2 of my deadlift videos:-

Well, ok........I need to apologize for my previous behavior. It's not right for me to accuse you guys as annoying, busybodies, nosy and my nagging mom (one is more than enough) just because you guys are concerned about me. I'm truly, deeply, madly sorry.

7th Day 22/08/08 (Rest Day since I Overslept and Missed Out Jogging)

Meals
09:00am
A bowl of oatmeal, a glass of HL milk, a banana, 2 hard-boiled eggs (NOT RAW)

01:00pm
Wholegrain bread with tuna and cheese

04:00pm
Peanut butter bread

06:00pm
Pepper chicken breast meat with veggies plus extra garlic (another masterpiece from me), a glass of HL milk, a banana

08:00pm
Peanut butter bread

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

Today marks the first week of me surviving the hardcore workout. I feel no significant change yet to my body but my body aches if my movement is too big. I have to resist my tear flowing out each time I walk up a flight of stair.

I can't believe you're able to take raw eggs actually .. they stink so much man ( just by looking at it already stops me from laying a finger on them ) .. For the aches/soreness ... It's normal for a while but if it lasts too long... then maybe you should revise your diet or correct your movements during workout ...

you need more protein in your meals. devide the protein into small portion accordingly to your meal. just make sure there is a steady flow of protein in every meal. with this, your body will have constant flow of energy and protein for your recovery.

remember, when you eat more, your body burn more.

Well, I'm trying my best to be carnivorous since I don't use protein shake. I just hope it's enough for my recovery.

8th Day 23/08/08 (Meeting New People)

Today, I met with Vivian and Danny in Top Fitness Gym. They are awesome!!! You muscular meatsticks out there might be able to lift up the weight which are 2 times heavier than your mass but I bet you muscle brains can't strap your legs on your neck and dangle yourself airborne. Well, she executed it with perfect grace.

Not much of workout today since they both were kind enough to help me going through the basics. I tend to be Notre Dame when I squat and deadlift, so, it's bad, really bad. We went through again and again until I got it right, almost, I think. I really appreciate the aids given by both of them so I wish we can meet again if there's a chance to do so. By the way Vivian, if you ever fed up with Danny (I say IF), don't hesitate to give me a call. I know you have my cell number.

Workouts:
Squat
2x5xOlympic Barbell (Thanks both of them for being restless when pointing out the way to do it correctly)
1x5x22.5kg
1x5x25kg
1x5x27.5kg

Pulldown (Thanks Danny for showing me the method)
1x15x40lbs
1x10x50lbs
2x5x60lbs

Dumbbell Press (Thanks Vivian for helping to keep my form straight)
2x15x5kg

Bench Press (This is cute. They both stood at each side to help me support the weights. Just in case somethings happen)
2x5xOlympic Barbell
2x5x25kg

Cycling
2km in 10 minutes with the load 10lbs

I didn't deadlift because my form was not that accurate. I will try again next time

Meals:
10:00am
A banana, a bowl of oatmeal, 2 hard boiled eggs, a glass of HL milk

12:00pm
Tuna sandwich with cheese.

03:00pm (pre-workout meal)
Peanut butter sandwich, a banana, a glass of HL milk

07:00pm (post-workout meal)
Pepper chicken breast meat with cabbages and extra onions and garlic, an half baked egg, 1 glass of HL milk, a banana

10:00pm
Peanut butter sandwich

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

I can't stress it more, but thanks again Vivian and Danny. Love you guys to the fullest (95% Vivian, errr 5%? Danny)

9th Day 24/08/08 (It Ends Tonight)

Today, my one week holiday officially ends and my test is starting in this week. Thus, I'm feeling a little bit sad and down right now. I kept reminisced about the wonderful time I experienced in this whole week, which was basically NOTHING. I still couldn't believe myself actually devoted my sweet time in studying for exams (Well, it's inevitable) and working out in gym. The only marvelous experiences I had was..........hmmm.....Do bone breaking, muscle tearing, pounding pain, body fatigue and nausea count as a wonderful enjoyment. I guess not. *Sigh* The payback better be sweet or I'm gonna go crazy.

Meals:
10:00am
A bowl of oatmeal, 2 hard boiled eggs, a glass of HL milk

12:00pm
Tuna sandwich with cheese

03:00pm
Peanut butter sandwich

07:00pm
Baked chicken with eggs, veggies, a glass of HL milk

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

Tomorrow, it's going to be hell for sure.

Well, no one has to know about it. Just as long as he don't shove his perfect abs in front of my face, he can live for another day.

Tomorrow sounds cool to me. I'll see you there. By the way, how do you know I have a habit of bringing pocket knife?

10th Day 25/08/08 (Lucky Day)

It seems like Lady Luck was with me all along. Two out of three of my classes were canceled, thus I had more time to revise for my upcoming test which is on Friday (Chemistry, I hate you). Since it's a whole new week of schooling, I decided to treat myself something exceptional. Nope, it's not PS3 but sooner or later I'm going to buy it. Instead, I bought myself a salmon. I know it sounds lame for you guys but I sick of eating chicken after mindlessly devouring them for almost a week. I need to try something new before I puke. Besides, salmon is a good source of protein and beneficial for brain too. I'm very proud of myself being able to make something extraordinary out of the salmon. You would be surprise how good it tasted. Seriously.

Workouts:

Squat
1x5xOlympic Barbell
1x5x25kg
1x5x30kg
3x5x35kg

Bench Press
1x5x5kg
1x5x7.5kg
1x5x10kg
3x5x20kg

Deadlift
1x5x10kg
1x5x20kg
1x5x30kg
3x5x32.5kg

Barbell Curl
1x5x10kg
1x5x17.5kg
3x5x20kg

Knee Lift
3x5xBW

Pulldown
1x10x40lbs
1x5x50lbs
1x5x60lbs

Chest Fly
1x8x5kg
1x5x7.5kg

Triceps Extension
1x10x10kg

Crunch
2x20xBW

Cycling
10 minutes. (My legs are beat from deadlift and squat)

Meals
06:00am
2 hard boiled eggs. a bowl of oatmeal, a banana, a glass of HL milk

10:30am
Chicken + veggies + potatoes + rice

04:00pm (Back from library, forgot to eat again sweat.gif ) (pre-workout meal)
Cheesy tuna egg sandwich, a banana, a glass of HL milk

07:00pm (post-workout meal)
Grilled salmon, cabbages with carrots, a banana, an egg, a glass of HL milk (I'm so full)

Before bed
A glass of HL milk, maybe a peanut butter sandwich........

Overall performance for today is kinda good but not that great. I feel my body is starting to adapt itself to my heavy duty schedule. I don't feel any soreness and pain anymore. Is that a good sign? I thought people who work out a lot always have the pain since pain signifies muscle growing. Or maybe they just broke something. I never liked the saying "No pain, no gain". I'll definitely punch someone in the face if they say it in front of me while I'm pushing myself for the last repetition.

11st Day 26/08/08 (Arrival of Streamyx)

I'm so happy right now rclxms.gif. After months of waiting, streamyx finally arrives tonight. I had urged and rushed them for weeks until they finally gave in. This is due to the fact that my condominium was newly built and there were many complications to install the phone line. Haha, take that TM. 24/7 persistent phone calls really did the trick. There's one problem, my test is coming and I'm a renown internetolic. It doesn't hurt to surf a little bit more........maybe 30 minutes......wait, 1 hour.......or should I make that 2?

Meals

06:00am
A bowl of oatmeal. a banana. a glass of HL milk

12:00pm
Thai chicken rice

03:00pm
Chicken egg sandwich, turkey ham sandwich

08:00pm
Chicken salad

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

Thanks for the compliment. I have the tendency to write everything down eventhough it's unrelated. It just make this journal more interesting for me to read rather than only record down the dull process during gym. I didn't include all the events in my daily life like an open diary as I always keep my most intimate parts to myself cool2.gif .

12th Day 27/08/08 (Mood Swing)

I had the blues today and I was in no spirit to work out. Plus, the heavy rain added my misery as my umbrella suddenly "collapsed" when I was walking to the bus stop. Anyway, my exam is approaching and I suddenly have this "chill" feeling or rather a precognition of failing (NOOOOOOOOOO!!). Since I was in a hurry for revision, I kinda rushed myself to complete the workouts in gym and this action nearly killed me. When I deadlift, I almost broke my fingers because I lost my grip and I was balancing the iron bar with 3 fingers (Ouch!). It was an accident waiting to happen. Next time, I need to be more cautious.

Workouts
Squat
1x5xBarbell (10kg maybe? I think it's pretty light in this gym)
1x5x17.5kg
1x5x20kg
3x5x25kg
1x4x27.5kg

Bench Press
1x5xBarbell
1x5x15kg
1x5x17.5kg
3x5x20kg
2x4x22.5kg

Deadlift
1x5xOlympic Barbell
1x5x27.5kg
1x5x30kg
3x5x35kg
1x5x37.5kg

Barbell Curl
1x5x5kg
1x5x10kg
1x5x20kg

Dumbbell Curl (Each hand)
1x5x5kg
3x5x7.5kg

Pulldown
1x10x40lbs
1x5x50lbs
3x5x60lbs

Triceps Extension
1x10x10kg

Crunch
2x20xBW

Cycling
2.7km in 10 minutes with load 10

Meals:

07:00am
2 semi-hard boiled eggs, a bowl of oatmeal, a glass of HL milk, a banana

11:00am
Rice with potatoes, veggies and chickens

04:00pm (pre-workout meal)
Cheesy tuna peanut butter sandwich, a glass of HL milk, a banana

07:00pm (post-workout meal)
Char siew rice, a glass of HL milk, a banana (no time to cook today)

Before bed
A sandwich maybe? a glass of HL milk

Running under the heavy rain can really exhaust you out. I hope I don't catch a cold or fever before the exam. I feel terrible.

13rd Day 28/08/08 (Nervous Day)

Tomorrow's the big day. Shit, I shouldn't even online now. Internet addiction can really mess you up *sigh*. I'm gonna make this a quickie and back to study again. Wish me luck for tomorrow. Oh wait, I shouldn't say "luck", it sounds really weak. I'm not a person who depend on luck anyway. All the pure raw power is just what I need for tomorrow. Or maybe a strong black coffee.

Meals
06:00am
A bowl of oatmeal, 2 semi-hard boiled eggs, a glass of milk, 2 pieces of peanut butter whole grain sandwiches, a banana

11:00am
Thai fish rice with potato wedges

04:00pm
Cheesy tuna peanut butter sandwich

07:00pm
Ice lemon tea, fried chicken chop rice

08:00pm
A cup of strong black coffee (Just what I need now)

Before bed (I dunno what's the time I'll doze off, maybe 3am? I'm a night person)
A glass of milk

*Put on the "Study or Die" banner on the forehead" Yup, so long.

14th Day 29/08/08 (Chemistry Done)

The exam for Chemistry is over. Yeah!! Next week, however, I have Physics (Wednesday), Pure Mathematics (Thursday) and Applied Mathematics (Friday) exam for 3 whole days straight. The hardest part has yet to come. Luckily though, Monday is a public holiday so I can maybe rest up a bit. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna die soon.

Meals
06:00am
2 hard boiled eggs, a bowl of oatmeal, 1 glass of HL milk

01:00pm (My recess started at this time, I couldn't do anything about it)
Black pepper fish rice

04:00pm (pre-workout meal)
Cheesy tuna peanut butter wholegrain sandwich, a glass of HL milk

07:00pm (post-workout meal)
Chicken salad, a glass of HL milk

09:00pm
Pineapple biscuits and a piece of Ferrero Rocher (Food of sin)

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

Workouts

Squat
1x5xOlympic Barbell
1x5x27.5kg
1x5x30kg
3x5x35kg
1x5x37.5kg

Bench Press
1x5x10kg
1x5x15kg
3x5x20kg
1x2x22.5kg
1x3x22.5kg

Deadlift
1x5x20kg
1x5x30kg
3x5x35kg
1x5x37.5kg

Barbell Curl
1x5x10kg
1x5x15kg
3x5x20kg
1x5x22.5kg

Leg Extension
1x10x40lbs
1x5x50lbs
3x5x60lbs

Triceps Extension
1x10x10kg

Chest Fly
1x5x5kg

Crunch
2x20xBW

Cycling
10 minutes

After deadlift, my back usually hurts a lot. This may caused by my inaccurate form. I thought deadlift depends more on your legs but when I'm doing
it, my back strains more while my legs don't feel sore at all. This is really strange.

15th Day 30/08/08 (Movie Time)

Today, I decided to take a rest and enjoy myself. My friend and I went to the cinema in KLCC to watch a movie. The movie was "Money Not Enough 2" produced by Singaporean. It was really humorous and you guys should really watch it. Although I'm not a big fan of Mandarin movies but this movie is quite good. The ending is kinda sad though. I nearly cried. Yup, nearly.

Meals
10:00am
A bowl of oatmeal, a glass of milk

02:00pm
Aromatic 5-spices chicken, cappuccino

06:00pm
2 peanut butter sandwiches

08:00pm
Noodles

Crap. I didn't eat much today. Well, my whole day was spent in the cinema.

Happy Independence Day everyone. What did you guys do today. Me? Nothing much. I eat, sleep, eat again and sleep, play Meetoto singing game with my friends (Really cool and embarrassing at the same time) while do some light reading. Yup, that's my Independence Day activities. It's dull and boring just like any other day.

Meals
11:00am
A bowl of oatmeal, a glass of milk

02:00pm
Cheesy tuna peanut butter spread sandwich

4:00pm
Some whole grain crackers

07:00pm
Chicken chop rice

Before bed
A glass of milk

17th Day 01/09/08 (A New Month)

Yes, another wonderful holiday. After this week exam, I can be free again. Yay!!! rclxms.gif Today, I weighed myself for the first time during my 2 weeks of workout, I actually lost 1kg. Nice. I hope that is fat and not my muscle mass not that I have any "real muscle". I can't wait what will happen in 3 or 4 months time hmm.gif . Performance for today is really great and I never felt so alive before. Maybe this is due to the holiday mood since I'm always half dead during gym workout, struggling to bench the last repetition. One thing that makes today workout imperfect is I'm still unable to complete up chin-up. Oh well, maybe next time.

Cheesy tuna peanut butter sandwich

18th Day 02/09/08 (Last Day Before Another Period of Exams)

Okay. I just need to make a quick update before bury my head into the loads of books on my bed. After this week, it's freedom. So close and yet so far. No more long winding speech now, back to updating biggrin.gif .

Meals
06:00am
A bowl of oatmeal, a glass of HL milk, 2 semi-boiled eggs, a banana

12:30pm
Sweet and sour fish rice

03:00pm
Cheesy tuna peanut butter sandwich, a glass of HL milk

07:00pm
Chicken chop with fries (Taste really bad), a glass of ice lemon tea

Before bed
A glass milk/ strong black coffee Hmm.... hmm.gif

I'll never go to the stand again that sells chicken chop. It's super oily, it makes my tummy uncomfortable. I feel like vomit after 1 bite. Yuck!!

I bought the fresh salmon from Jusco and grilled it myself. I not very fond of eating outside. The kopitiam food in KL is really "heavy" in sense of taste compared to those in Kuching, especially the mamak stall. Cook for yourself is always the smartest choice.

Which part? Even I say it, you still don't know where is it either. Kuching is not that big.

I love to mix something extra when I'm preparing my meal. It makes cooking more interesting. Constantly inventing new recipes is my specialty no matter how strange the recipes might sound. Previously, my friends freaked out when I cooked potatoes, boneless fish chunks, eggs, garlic, mayonnaise together. I rolled it into a shape of a ball and oven baked it. They tasted really good although my roommates think I'm nuts. The sandwich might seem awful but it's quite a delicacy for me. I absolutely love it.

19th Day 03/04/08 (No Gym Day, Damn)

Sorry for the late update, studying for exams are more important. Anyhow, today (yesterday) is supposed to be my gym workout day but sadly I had to skip it due to my circumstances. Too bad, my momentum was building. Just 2 more days! 2 more days and everything can back to normal. I had to stop cooking for myself because I don't want waste too much of time. I better off focusing things that are more important. Seriously, fitting school life and gym life in my already hectic routine is tiring.

Meals
09:00am
2 hard boiled eggs, a bowl of cereal, a banana, a glass of HL milk

11:00am
Dry wantan noodles (I shouldn't be eating this, it's sin)

03:00pm
Cheesy tuna peanut butter sandwich

07:00pm
Chicken chop rice with tomatoes

Before bed (02:00am rclxub.gif )
A glass of HL milk

7PM meal was messed up

chicken chops are likely breaded already and you get carbs there. You probably didn't need the rice anyway. Ur cutting, don't forget.

I really don't know why you have such a hard time balancing school+training. Perhaps you need to throw those story books away for a bit, while you spend more time training.

It's official, I eat crap during exam period. After tomorrow though, I'm going to cook for myself.

Haha. Seriously, you're joking right? Not in a million years I'll throw out the books. It's my obsession.

Now
Books>>>Training

Future (Maybe)
Books=Training

Not going to happen
Training>>>Books

By the way, Happy Birthday. Congrats for getting old.

My birthday is on the 24th of April and I'm far younger than I wrote on my profile. I used to be a bookworm like you, but one day, somehow, weightlifting and fitness just overtook my obsession for books. You can never ever tell. Like they say "Never say never"

Here's a dirty suggestion.

Chances are you're paying in excess of RM10 for the chicken chop with rice, or you're paying RM9 something. A better idea is a 3 piece chicken from KFC, remove the skin and just eat it. It's one of the cheaper ways to survive eating in KL.

20th Day 04/09/08 (2 More Exams to Go)

I feel really tired. 4 hours of sleep can really deteriorate your mind. Anyhow, I just finished my Pure Mathematics exam today and I'm so disappoint in my ability. I could do better and yet I still committed crime of carelessness not once but twice.

Another day of rest and I feel something is lacking. It's strange, skipping gym workout actually makes me uneasy and restless as if I miss out my favourite TV shows. I hope my new gym life doesn't hold too much on my social life.

Meals

06:00am
Wholemeal tuna sandwich, a glass of HL milk

11:00am
Chicken drumstick rice

03:00pm
Cheesy tuna peanut butter sandwich, a glass of HL milk

06:00pm
Fried rice, pork spring rolls, a piece of chicken

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

by the way, seems like your dinner is a lil heavy since it will be advisable to reduce ur carbs intake after 6pm and put those carbs on ur preworkout.

Haha. Oh please, don't compare me with you gym rats. I have a life, a real life. I hang out with my friends during the weekends just to chill. I go to the cinema to catch some movies when I feel bored. I always find time to read while listen to music. Most importantly, I eat real food.

22nd Day 06/09/08 (Rewarding Day)

I always reward myself after I accomplished something great. Since I managed to survive my weeks of exam and 3 weeks of gym workouts, I definitely deserve something to boost my morale. So, I decided to do the things I enjoy. Yup, you guess it, books.

I went to KLCC and shopped at the Kinokuniya bookstore. It's hard for me to choose a book because there are plenty of selections. To resolve my problem, I went with the sensible solution available which was to buy all the books. Well, ok, not all but 3 books but my wallet is still hurting but who cares, as long as I think is worth it.

The Final Reckoning - Sam Bourne
Sam Bourne is a new emerging writer and I think he is quite good but his level of story writing is still far behind than those famous writers I known of. Since I have all his book, I should buy his new book to make a complete collection.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Q&A - Vikas Swarup
I'm being forced to buy this book because our Indian English lecturer requested all the students need to do a book review based on the book she chose. I was hoping she chose something interesting by those famous author, Dan Brown, James Patterson, Stephen King, David Baldacci but no, she had to choose something boring and stupid. Now, I'm stucked with reading something I don't like.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Run - Jeff Abbott
This is the first time I read his book so I don't the what's the result. If I like it, I'll continue to read his creation; if I hate it, I will burn the book.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

My system of rewarding didn't just end there. I had been eating eggs, wholemeal bread, oatmeal, chicken breasts for far too long and I'm getting very fed up. A cheat meal is all I need now. Hence, I happily hopped to The Coffee Bean to order myself a warming hot cappuccino plus a German cheese cake while I did my reading leisurely. Yummy.

Next is movie time which completely ruined my fun. I chose a low budget movie "Deception" to watch and it sucked. For the first time, there is no explosion, robots, spies, aliens, monsters and psychopath murdering. The only thing I like about it is the hot sex scene but they cut it out too. Damn. The entire time I was waiting the movie to end.

Meals
11:00am
2 hard boiled eggs, a glass of HL milk, a bowl of oatmeal

02:00pm
A cup of cappuccino, a slice of German cheese cake.

06:00pm
BBQ and chicken drumstick rice

Before bed
A glass of milk, peanut butter sandwich

pretty good process, you may try to increase your deadlift poundage to 40+kg, since you are able to squat at 40kg, Deadlift > squat

read more in ripetoe FAQ, got detail explanation about that.. wink.gif

Try weighing yourself at a specific time of the day. The best is in the morning, after you've brushed your teeth, done your business and taken a shower, wipe yourself down and weigh yourself stark naked.

Of course you should only do this in the privacy of your room, unless you live in a nudist colony.

I don't have a weighing machine in my apartment thus your method is definitely out of question.

30th Day 14/09/08 (Mooncake Festival)

Today marks my one month of venturing into the world of bodybuilding. Yay!! rclxm9.gif I thought I'm bound to quit in the middle but guess not. icon_idea.gif Surprisingly, today is also a special for the Chinese because it's the celebration of Mooncake Festival. Too bad, my condominium doesn't permit lanterns and it was raining really badly too. *Sigh* What a party pooper.......

Hence, to make this day special, my roommate and I decided to treat ourselves to eat something better which is Nando's. Yummy. Fortunately. I also ate some mooncakes today. It's kinda sweet and I feel bad for breaking the no "Junk food" code.

Meals
10:30am
A bowl of oatmeal, 2 hard boiled eggs, a glass of HL milk

2:00pm
Mooncakes

4:00pm
Peanut butter sandwich, a glass of HL milk

7:00pm

31st Day 15/09/08 (Library)

Soon. I'll be swarming with exams again. Better be prepared than sorry. Thus, I went along with a friend of mine to the library to do our revision. Despite having the determination to score better, she and I ended up chit-chatting with each other while we supposed to study. In the end, we were scolded by the librarian for being too loud. Awkward. I'm meaning to ask her for a date but I can't get the words out....... I thought this was the chance for me to score big since we're all alone in a quiet room but my buddy just "coincidentally" showed up and joined us. Damn him for ruin my plan. I should kill him.

Meals
06:00am
2 hard boiled eggs, a bowl of oatmeal, a banana, a glass of HL milk

10:30am
Thai fish fillets rice with cabbages

11:00am~4:00pm
No food is allowed in the library sweat.gif

04:00pm
Peanut butter sandwich with cheese, a glass of HL milk

06:00pm
Soy sauce chicken salad, 2 hard boiled eggs, a glass of HL milk, a banana

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

32nd Day 16/09/08 (Should I Eat McDonald?)

My friend suddenly asked me whether I wanted to go to McDonald or not since he has a lot of coupons to spare. He said he didn't want to eat alone and the coupons would be such a waste if we don't use it. Of course, I rejected him since I have my code of honour and besides, I have a gym to attend to. He kept begging me to come and he mentioned to me that "It's just a stupid gym, you won't die from missing it for only a day." With that being said, I suddenly felt maybe he was right since I also think that I'm very absorbed to gym workout. Nevertheless, I still rejected his offer.

For revenge, he bought takeouts. There are maybe 9-10 burgers and fries with sodas. I was like "Oh my f***ing God!!" He put all of ithem on our diner table and waited for my reaction. "You can take it if you want to. I know you can't resist the temptation. Just pay me the amount you eat. 2 or 3 perhaps?" Damn, he could read my mind. Right now, I'm struggling whether to take a bite on that greasy burger.

Hmmm, your idea is not to shabby. I might just try it.
I suck when comes to dieting. It's either I forgot to eat or there's nothing to eat in the house. sad.gif

Start making your own shakes if you have to, few years ago my shakes were just raw eggs and milk. Its not that bad unless you bought the orange yolk or omega crap eggs, those smell funny. Think of it as a milk shake with thick consistency

Go watch supersized me, even the bacteria wont touch that stuff

37th Day 21/09/08 (Badminton)

My friend said I changed. From a slacker into a gym enthusiast.Since I'm so into shaping my body and shedding fat, he suggested we should have a badminton match. I was thrilled when he asked me to play with him since he's a state representative in badminton.

It's been ages since I last played badminton, so I definitely a bit rusty. All I can say his level is completely different than mine. He hit hard and quick, never leave a moment to let you collect your thought. All the while the shuttlecock was either sizzling pass me or hitting me right in the arm, body and sometimes my face. I never realised hitting by a bundle of feathers could be so painful. I think he deliberately aiming the ball at me since the frequency of the shuttlecock hitting me was more than usual. Thank god we're not playing tennis. Although he's only using 20% of his ability to play against me, I still couldn't win against him. He's like a monster.

2 hours of playing without resting was horrendous. I was panting and out of breath when we finished. Oh god, I hated him because he didn't look a bit tire at all. He said that his usual training with his coach is 10x times tiresome than this. When he asked me whether I would like to continue for another 2 hours, I was like "WTF, please spare me."

Meals
08:00am
A bowl of oatmeal, 2 hard boiled eggs, a glass of HL milk, a cheesy peanut butter tuna sandwich, a banana

12:00pm
A banana, a peanut butter sandwich

04:00pm
A glass of HL milk, a cheesy peanut butter sandwich

07:00pm
1/2 of whole Hainanese kampung chicken (shared with my friend) with rice, fish fillet strips with fish balls soup, 3 pieces of garlic bread, ice lemon tea, 2 half boiled eggs.

Before bed

41st Day 25/09/08 (One More Day Until Saturday)

I just got the news, my mom gonna come to KL and visit me. It's so sudden and unexpected, so typical of her. She just booked Monday's flight without even informing my dad blink.gif Because of the randomness, my dad didn't has time to prepare for the leaving due to his hectic work. So, it's just my mom and sis who'll be coming.

Again, due to the unforeseen circumstances, my roommate and I quickly clean our house, take out the 3 days old trash, mop the floor, ceiling fans and windows, sweep the floor, tidy up our room to prepare for her arrival. Phew~

Right now, I have to draw up a plan on the activities we should do during her visit. I think I'm gonna bring my mom and sis to Genting to enjoy ourselves. I never been to Genting before and neither did my sis, this might be a brand new experience. Next on the list would be a grand shopping spree. I'm still new to KL, so what are the places that are good for shopping as long as they have many selection of clothing and affordable.

Being a loving son is troublesome and tiresome but being a loving mom is 100x times more than this.

43rd Day 27/09/08 (Ice Skating)

Today, we decided to go to Sunway Pyramid to ice skate. This is my first time and I'm thrilled. There were a lot of people at the ice rink and some of them are seriously awesome. I met a girl who was maybe 6 or 7 years old and she skates like a professional. She is so cute too with her ballet dress.

After I put on my ice skating shoes, I could not even stand properly. I wobbled all the way the moment my feet touched the ice rink. I was having some troubles skating because I could not balance myself upright.

I managed to balance myself after struggling endlessly, holding the railing while skating. My friend is a beginner just like me but he skated so well. It's so unfair watching him skate graciously while I kept tumbling. He told me it's in his nature. Ya, right......

I fell down most of the time when I was skating. If I'm not mistaken, I fell 16 times (Yup, I kept count all this while). I fell on my bottom, side way, fell on my knees, elbow and sometimes a full body slam. Ouch. Of course I felt ridiculous and embarrassed when I tripped but sooner or later I got used to it because the pain was unbearable. I injured my knees, my right elbow, my left ankle and my right palm. The injury on my elbow is quite serious as I slam it towards the ice when I tried to break my fall. I never realised ice skating can be so dangerous.

I sweated a lot during the workout. Surprisingly, ice skating is not that easy and relaxing as what it seems. It takes a lot energy and will power just to prevent yourself from falling down. People saw me fell all the time so some of them approached me to give me some pointers. So nice of them or maybe they just sympathised me =.=". After 2 hours of mindlessly skating, I finally got the hang of it, I think. However, the operator of the ice rink asked us to stop skating because it's cleaning time. Bummer, just when I got flow of triumph of beating this sport.

With mixed feeling and bruises from all over my body, I departed and went back to my home to sleep.

Workouts:

12:30-02:30pm
Ice skating rclxm9.gif

Meals:

09:30am
Spaghetti with grilled fish fillets, a yam puff, a glass of ice lemon tea

04:00pm
2 glasses of HL milk, a piece of cheese

07:00pm
Fried rice, a chicken wing, an hard boiled egg

You might be wondering why my diet is so chaotic. Well, we travelled to Sunway Pyramid by bus and LRT hence it took up a lot of my time.

Yup, my mom loves to shop just like any other women would. This means I need to take a week of hiatus from my usual workout regimen. 46th Day 30/09/08 (Time Square)

I dunno whether I should count this day as my workout day or not since I accompanied my mom and sis to shop in the shopping mall for the whole day. We arrived at 10am and went back at 7pm if not mistaken. 9 hours of walking and waiting for them to try on their clothes is insane and extremely tiring. I have utterly no clue how females could be so energised when it comes to shopping. Besides walking non-stop, I had to carry the things they bought. So, should I consider it as cardio exercise?

At least I did have some fun during the trip. We went to Cosmo's World (My sis kept rushing me to go with her while our mom indulged in her shopping spree). We rode the spinning train thing (I nearly crushed my sis because the damn thing spun so fast), roller coaster (She didn't scream at all for the whole journey, I'm impressed), Spring Bee (This is fun, luckily we both don't fear of height), bumper cars and etc.

Next, we went to watch a movie "Mamma Mia". The movie was kinda good and touching too. My mom said she wanted to shop instead of staying in the cinema to watch some foreign movies she doesn't even understand. We regrouped after the show and we went back to our home.

Meals:
10:00am
Grilled salmon, cappuccino

02:00pm
Vanilla ice-cream

06:00pm
Grilled chicken with rice, egg soup

08:00pm
A glass of HL milk, peanut butter sandwich

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

I drank a lot of water in between, especially during shopping and in the theme park (To fend off the nauseousness)

47th Day 01/10/08 (Robbery)

There's one incident that happened on that day shattered our mood for another shopping trip. We witnessed a robbery that taken place near the Wangsa Maju LRT station. Two little Malay punks (Maybe 15 or 16 years old) snatched a handbag from a Chinese female when they were speeding through the street on their motorbike. With their lousy handling of bike and nervousness, they bumped a car and fell. An Indian came up and grabbed one of the kid but he managed to escape by hitting him with his helmet. After that, he just ran. The other kid stood up and tried to ride his motorbike to flee. The Indian who still won't let up grabbed the handle of the bike and pulled as hard as his could to stop him from fleeing. In the end, the kid lost control of his bike and went towards us. Luckily, he hit a fence in front of us and fell. With his bike crushed, he ran like hell. We're fortunate that the bike didn't ram us. If he ever lay a finger on my mom, trust me, I'm gonna rip his throat out.

We was really taken aback by that incident, especially my mom. She said that she was very disappointed about the people in KL. For god sake, it's Raya and those Malay kids (We know they're Malay because they wore baju kemeja and sarung) actually committed robbery during this Holy day. What hurts the most is that the pedestrians just stood there watching as if they were watching some sick movies while eating popcorn. The girl screamed for help and no one took any action except the Indian guy. Mind you, there were a lot of beefy guys during that time, eating their sweet breakfast. If we're not separated by a fence, I'll definitely beat him to death. I have a deep hatred against lowly crooks because I had been robbed once too. My mom was deeply affected because no one wanted to help that poor girl. My mom told me that once, a female customer in my mom's shop was robbed by a guy and he sped off immediately. All my mom's male customers soon afterward got on their cars and chased him to get her handbag back. "Are all KL people very selfish and only mind their own business? Why no one want to help that girl? The Malays already fell from their bike, someone should just catch them before they escaped." My mom kept bombarded with these question.

We went to Midvalley and One Utama afterward. We didn't enjoy ourselves due to what happened.

Meals:
08:00am
A glass of HL milk

11:00am
Grilled steak, lime juice

02:00pm
Banana splits from Baskin Robin

05:00pm
Grilled chicken with mushroom sauce

Before bed
A glass of HL milk

Just typing this out makes me so furious!!!! vmad.gif

Just typing this out makes me so furious!!!! vmad.gif

Because he just sprained his ankle a few days ago, and it still hasn't recovered yet.

The incident happened so fast, a fraction of a minute. I don't think I could make it. Besides, my mom held my hand so tightly and won't let me go.

Yup, those sons of b**** got away. Anyway, they didn't manage to get the handbag though. They left it in the rush. However, they did left their motorbike. It crushed with the fence. Those pricks, I hope they die.

48th Day 02/10/08 (Goodbye, Mom)

i remember seeing you lost your balance and almost fall with your back landing on the floor first. that was just 40kg, what if 100kg? you might ended up breaking your back, and spend the rest of your life on a wheel chair.

61th Day 15/10/08 (Preparation)

I skipped today workout because I had to prepare for my presentation for tomorrow. If it's a class presentation then I have nothing to worry about but presenting in front of 120+ students is not relatively easy. I couldn't afford to screw up so practice, practice and practice are a must.

Meals:
08:00am
2 hard boiled eggs, a glass of HL milk, peanut butter sandwich with cheese and tuna, a bowl of oatmeal

11:00am
Grilled fish rice with Thai sauce and cabbages

03:00pm

I always spend 2 hours or more in the gym. I recover quite fast if I have a pleasant sleep and usually feel replenished the next morning. If not, I'm gonna have a hard time concentrate during class.

I'll be brutally honest here but still politically sweet, but your workouts are quite...a waste of time.

I'll show you why aight;

Workouts:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

You've got a total of TWELVE exercises.

You do it like, legs, chest, back right?

Ya know, my morning workouts go like; power snatch, power clean and jerk, push press and front/back squats

Evening workouts; Squat snatch, clean and jerk, jerk from rack, snatch and clean pull and squats.

And yet, I take only 1 1/2 hours to complete. My main lifts, go to about 3x3. Then the accessory work go to about 5x5. This is all after my buildup sets. Don't get caught in the belief that more is better. There's a line between improvement and mere wasting time. At one point, your ATP declines and your muscles aren't recruited as you'd like them to be. At that point, you'd be better off resting, eating and training again later in the day if you want to.

Just a lil input. Hope it helps.

Waste of time!? I'm totally shattered. 2 months of hardwork just go "poof".

After squatting, my quads are extremely exhausted if I squat deep enough. Front squat is kinda new to me and seems dangerous at my newbie level so I always avoid it. I go for leg extension (machinery) because it's much easier than free weights and I use this period to let both of my legs rest.

I desperately want to reduce the layer of fat on my chest thus I included as many chest workouts I could think of. Butterfly is machinery and less daunting compared to free weights so I quite fond of doing it.

As for the theory of curling before rowing, I have utterly no clue at all. I just figure that wearing out your biceps can increase the intensity of rowing or vice versa, as simple as that.

Twisting my torso is just for fun. I just grab a stick lay it on my shoulders with both my arms stretching out to hold the end of the stick. Next, I just twist my body left and right for maybe 60/70 degree. I know it's not gonna slim my body down but you can't deny it has some little effects.

Well, at least there is some significant change in my body. My waist just drops from size 35 to 34/33 (I didn't actually measure it but judging from my pants, it's quite obvious.) The strange thing is my weight is constant just like 2 months before.

I didn't want you to get it the wrong way, but it seems you did.
I used to believe more was better.......but then as I researched more and read some thesis papers I borrowed, I realized, ENOUGH is better.

You should know this already, but as the period of training increases, the intensity decreases and your fast twitch muscles exhaust themselves. After that, you're only relying on your slow twitch muscles. These muscles aren't too significant to raising your BMR to burn more fats..well actually they are, but those little isolation movements aren't gonna do much for it. If anybody else disagrees, do a bench press for 1 month and do a squat for 1 month exclusively. And put them on the same diet.

If you lose more weight doing bench presses, I'll quit weightlifting.

What I'm suggesting is, a routine that involves more heavy lifting, and then an additional few sets and exercises for the minor bodyparts. Zatorski said that, accessories aren't bad, but never make your accessories your obsession. Don't make your bicep curls numbers be more important than your pull-up maxes.

Cheerios. I hope you get what I'm trying to say. And don't get so touched and emotional about me saying these extra movements are a waste of time. Not every compliment is an honest one, but every constructive comment is.

I used to do what x0angelus0x is currently doing until i realized and i changed my workout. My workout is around 1 hour lately....what pizzaboy said is right...my strength tends to reduce tremendously after 1 hour and its really a waste of time after that...do more compound and less isolation...
my main exercise lately are: pulldown, bench press, squat, deadlift, overhead press and rows.....

trying to gain some lats/width but its damn freaking tough...good luck mate...

Pump your lats with supersets, damn fun. I felt the ache for the next 2 days. Like Close Grip Lat Pulldowns with Dumbbell Presses, plus Wide Grip Lats Pulldowns with Bent Over One Arm Long Bar Rows.

OF all the rows I've tested (Let's see.....db...bb....yates..hmm hmm, chest, t..hmm..about 8 different rowing variations) the best lat/upper and mid back killers IMHO goes to these;

1. Chest supported incline rows (Eliminates all lower back involvement. Deload each repetition)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dehwang/151040526/

2. Yates row (with a suppinated grip, soreness)

3. Dumbbell rows (With straps+heavy weights+HUGE oblique twisting movements)

For me, these movements work tremendously well. I've been able to pull 190KG's without my upper back failing and front squatting 140KG's after a session of snatch, cnj, pulls, and I'll attribute a huge amount of upper back strength to these row variations.

I believe for movements, where you cannot get other parts of your body to help, then use a light weight for high repetitions. If you can, then use a heavy weight, and go for even higher repetitions.

China weightlifting textbooks, FTW!

Hi Angelus, I've been following your training log since the beginning and just have a few things to say, I hope you don't take any of it the wrong way.

First of all congrats on the progress you have made, it shows that you have put in the effort and dedication in order to succeed. Bravo!

Pizzaboy is definitely spot on (when is he not?). The problem with your training is that you are doing too many unnecessary exercises - which leads to your sessions becoming too long. A session that lasts longer than 1 hour usually results in increased cortisol which is a catabolic hormone. In simple terms, it breaks down muscle. In Pizzaboy's case it's different, because olympic lifters spend a lot of time resting in between sets.

Here's what I suggest, stick to the original Rippetoe template, it is more than adequate for a beginner like you. What you can do is (and this is what I do) add in 1 or 2 assistance exercises. In my case, because I'm a football player, my assistance exercises consist of lunges, bulgarian split squats, pull-ups/chin-ups and a row variation. The lunges and bulgarian split squats work the legs and especially the adductors and hip flexors, pull-ups increase relative strength which can in turn lead to speed gains, and a row variation because I do a clean pull instead of pendlay row, and I have a sucky right shoulder due to a torn rotator cuff, hence the need for rows.

Notice that they are all free-weight exercises, machines have a very little role to play in a serious training program. I don't know your reason for doing leg extension, but get off the damn thing, it's pretty much useless unless you are a speed skater or someone who requires local muscle endurance in the quadriceps. Substitute those with a 'single leg exercise' instead.

Chest flyes and butterflies do almost nothing in terms of reducing chest fat. Spot reducing is a myth, just like how many people think that if they do 1000 situps a day they will have 6 packs soon, or how plenty of ladies do very light weights with thousands of repetitions thinking that it will burn fat. Wrong. Get rid of those.

If you do rows, you don't need to do pulldowns. In fact, try to stay away from the pulldowns. Your shoulders will thank you because before this you were doing 3 different chest exercises but only 1 row exercise (pulldowns do not round up the chest exercises). Sooner or later your shoulders will get injured. And yes, you should row before you curl.

If you are going to do assistance exercises, do it after you are done with the main exercises. So go squat, bench deadlift and then only do the other exercises. So in your case, you don't need many exercises, maybe add in 3 sets of lunges and curls on one day and 3 sets of lunges and decline tricep skullcrushers on another day. Maybe 1 or 2 abdominal exercises. Your sessions should last around 1 hour or so.

About reducing your waistline and all, there's only 1 way to go: Clean up your diet and do cardio.

Don't worry about the mistakes you made, learn from them and be better. Do ask away if you still have any doubts.
