Speaker specs actually tell only a small part of the whole story. Many sound characteristics cannot be defined in a spec, e.g. imaging, soundstaging, resolution, smoothness, warmth, pace, bass tightness, etc. Also, higher Hz doesn't equal more detailed.

My best advice to look for a good speaker is go listen to it.

Agree. In fact Dali looks quite impressive on paper cos of its ribbon tweeter (more details) but when auditioned it, it lacks the dynamics & punchy feeling as compared to PSB.

Was comparing between the Ikon & PSB Imagine series,

jchong, you have been Knighted tongue.gif

To add more, with the extra bandwidth in Blu-ray particularly lossless audio, it is a whole new experience to most of us if you do have such good equipments to produce the sound smile.gif

Correct. There are sub-audible effects which even though cannot be heard but still might be perceived. This applies to frequencies above and below the hearing threshold.

Hence, my point is that there is some value to reproducing freq below 20Hz as well as above 20kHz. Your earlier statement: "as i know human hearing only from 20hz to 20khz, unless you have superhuman ear dont think that make a different" seems to suggest that it doesn't make any difference going outside 20Hz to 20kHz.
*
there is currently no conclusive evidence that these sub-audible effect exist, it have not been determine how does the higher and lower range sound effect the human body. maybe it does exist but it sure is more expensive to get the hardware require to listen to sound that you may not be able to perceive.

I think sub-audible effects below 20 Hz have been established. Owners of powerful subs will attest to this. Those above 20 kHz are more uncertain.

Anyway, certainly I agree that higher bandwidth hardware would be more expensive and it's up to each person to determine if worthwhile spending for it or not.

Well, not thinking of upgrading main speakers yet.

But yesterday not fully able to test Synchrony One since ROTF probably not the best material to test mains (but excellent for testing sub). Next time must play some concerts, since I think material that is optimised for stereo is best for testing main speakers.

Havign said that, i still puzzled why the Velo SPL 1200 can perform better yesterday @ Mr Ng's pad as compared to my place. Bass didnt sound so harsh and hard (fake) as compared to mine.

I agree with ronnt88, it's the room. Mr Ng's place got carpeting and some thick curtains on the side - I suspect his wooden raised flooring also plays a big part.

EQ1 can help some, but maybe now you need things like bass traps also?
