I remember listening to one at your place! wink.gif Hence the search and reading all related write ups! tongue.gif

Why do you think I own one for donkey years and made personal comments of it in TT thread?.

P.S. the seller better give me some commission for hyping it up if its quickly sold.

What about a pre-amp?
I am sure some of us are using our T-Amps as poweramps.

Y.C.,
Is your stepped attenuator 'useable' in this case?

Good idea.. most of my JP trips are impromptu thing.. but my trip minimum once a month but depends on what projects I am doing, it can be a weekly affair tongue.gif

wui, there are other factors, namely your other equipments in the audio chain that may or may not reflect the changes..

QUOTE(wui223 @ Oct 11 2008, 07:45 PM)
too bad i cant go today to meet u guys, just went there yesterday smile.gif

next time we should plan a meeting at JP also, more like a walk-through for parts. possible to take pictures of shops to share info with forumer.

i am running 680uF 63V caps at power supply to replace the stock 220uF, so far i cant judge any subtle changes on SQ. maybe due to my wooden ears.

ongbs,
there several pre-amp kits in JP, some I have bought and tried. Not bad really price around RM50-60 with tone controls!
All you need is to add an appropriately rated transformer and a casing. All in I'd say around RM100.
I think there is one with 'midband/midrange' control.. but PCB only... a bit on a high side, price wise.. another RM20 max for components.
Still even without a 'midrange' control that can be included with minimum parts.. just another band pass filter wink.gif
If you're interested, I'll check it out the next time when I'm in JP.

yes jazzy I am looking for some pre-amp kits, prefer with Mid tone control beside Bass and Treble.

wui,
I am a discrete lover.. so it's a discrete buffer pre-amp.. wink.gif
opamps are too easy.. and I just don't really like the sound..somewhat 'artificial'.. especially those 'jelly beans' opamps.. tongue.gif

QUOTE(wui223 @ Oct 12 2008, 12:14 AM)
Btw, what preamp circuit are u building, bro jazzy?

Could it be a OP-amp based preamp or fully discreet circuit like Pass Lab ?

True to a certain extend! Somehow I like the 'long' way tongue.gif
Anyway it's 'too accurate' nature sometimes does not go well with my taste.. Not that I am dismissing the opamps entirely! biggrin.gif
At this point of time, just wanna 'play' with discretes.. having a first hand experience beats reading and hearing about other people opinion!
At any rate I do have several opamps and circuit to play-play too! biggrin.gif
BUT my passion is really with tubes.. blush.gif

Ohh rub it in! tongue.gif

A simple tube pre-amp/buffer did crossed my mind bsl.. do you have any recommendations/lead?

time to make corrections after 'lil mistake.. blush.gif

QUOTE(bsl555 @ Oct 12 2008, 01:13 AM)
I have a feeling a carefully chosen simple tube preamp can make the T-amp more musical as it'll give it some color and with more warmth..or a tube buffer in front of it?...the X-10D?....hahahahh...drool again....heheheh!.

Oh yeah... sounds good! Thanks for the lead, will look into that! thumbup.gif

QUOTE(bsl555 @ Oct 12 2008, 01:35 AM)
Its quite possible to clone the X-10D. Nothing very complicated and you need a 12V tranny with voltage double rectifier for the B+. Remember that Ebay HK DIY site that sells the X-10D PCB kit? You get the same exact layout. The original X-10D does NOT contain super quality pcb or whatever. The DIY kit could be even better quality.
All in all, it may work out to be cheaper than the original X-10D and you can even add a ALPS volume pot after the buffer stage.

Y.C.,
Glad that you can make it! Thought you must be terribly busy.. I was right. biggrin.gif

Question. Why are you keeping the Q Acoustics? tongue.gif

Your test kit should be sufficient, I think? Who would have a passive pre to pinjam? hmm.gif
If it's not already too much trouble on your side..

Anybody got any ideas/proposals?

QUOTE(Y.C. @ Oct 12 2008, 01:57 AM)
I’d quite a tight schedule today, all non work related. I’ve also sold off my Epos m5 to a nice gentleman this afternoon whom I must say is happy with their flawless condition and loudspeakers are not even run-in as they were only used briefly.

We listened to some music through my Sansui cdp and T-amp; he’s really impressed with the T-amp and would be contacting Xtorm soon. Epos m5, like I’ve predicted, sounded a lot better than Q Acoustics 1010 when paired with the T-amp – wider soundstage with more depth and better bass to boot. I’m sad to see them go but happy on the other hand as they’ve finally found a new owner.

Jazzy, to your question whether my attenuator could be used as a pre-amp during the T/T session, I must say it’s soldered to my T-amp and must be de-soldered and soldered each time – too inconvenient and I must rule it out. The best solution is to ‘pinjam’ a passive pre for the session or make do with my test kit comprising of a 50k ohm Alpha carbon potentiometer connected to a pair of RCA connectors. If you guys really need it, I would need to buy and solder another pair of RCA connectors to it. Do let me know.

I think, poslaju will be your 'handling agent' and will do the necessary 'clearing' for that sum.
Don't think there would be 'tax'. SIRIM was in the picture just to verify the stuffs, I think..? hmm.gif

btw bro, I got your stuff that you ask earlier. Unless you have forgotten? tongue.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Oct 12 2008, 02:42 AM)
ok the letter is from KLIA kastam, either i go myself or appoint poslaju to declare the stock, poslaju cost rm49.50 which i think is fair enough considering time travel there and tol and petrol...

didnt mention abt the amount need to pay for tax, so do i pay poslaju rm49.50 all settle? or there is more cost to it if i dont go myself

yep. all you need to now is wait. biggrin.gif
btw, have you 'talk' to poslaju so that they can take up the matter? I think you have to pay that RM49.50 first for the services.
