OK, for STAGE 1
I have identified these caps and resistors that will experience the wrath of my soldering iron! laugh.gif
Yellow arrows indicate the resistors, red arrows indicate the caps! tongue.gif

Maybe I should compile these into a Step by step guide to mod your T-Amp... brows.gif laugh.gif

Y.C.,
Yeah, you and your poison! tongue.gif
Of course! As soon as the 'procedure' is completed I will progressively update the thread as the burn in process accumulates. Yep, that Vishay caps will be in too! thumbup.gif Stay tuned! wink.gif

BTW,I have NOT initiate the procedure.. went out for 'raya' shopping, just got back.. sweat.gif

QUOTE(Y.C. @ Sep 13 2008, 11:34 AM)
Good morning, all

Heheh, Jazzy, now that you've picked up your goodies, could we all also expect to receive your report (a.k.a. review) on sonic change to the stocked T-amp (your patient No.3) after each operation? Especially after changing to Vishay 2.2uF input caps that many T-amp owners here love, all thanks (or no thanks) to my poisoning. brows.gif

....... snip snip....

Its a pleasure to share this passion rolleyes.gif tongue.gif

Now you know why I need one board to 'play play' wink.gif

I'm warming up the T-Amp(board 2) now and will hit the note shortly.. may continue with Stage 2, the balance of the SMDs replacements. Most of the 0.47uF caps are on the output stage.. see the mood lah.. hehehe.. maybe I'll finishup tomorrow and starts the burn in the whole next week and by end of next week, should be able to come up with the much look forward review... tongue.gif

QUOTE(Y.C. @ Sep 13 2008, 11:33 PM)
Jazzy,

Great work there and noble spirit of sharing with us all.  notworthy.gif  thumbup.gif

Just came home after taking my family out for dinner, now 'listening to' rather than 'playing with' the T-amp; the sound of it too addictive to be left alone.

xtorm,
You like the guide? Gee thanx! tongue.gif First time ever I do such a thing.. well I have some sort of a guide in my blog anyway tongue.gif

Yeah.. It's a 5MP digicam but I like quality of the pix thumbup.gif

Yes.. I thought of doing the same with C7 too.. heck, thats easily done!
Just wanna show where it is SUPPOSED to be.. wink.gif

Anyway ,I would like recommend this tool as it helps it holding the components proper for easeof positioning/holding.
Its only RM3.50 Jalan Pasar!! laugh.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Sep 13 2008, 11:57 PM)
wow!! really nice photo and guide there...

im putting this at 1st page later biggrin.gif

i guess no 1 will need to see how to built a t-amp, most of them who got this board should know what they are doing anyway.

you camera is really quite nice, but its 5mp ah?

btw why isnt c7 solder directly to the chip as well, c6 and c7 are bypass cap for both 220uf

Gentlement.
12 hours have passed and it's time to review/reveal! biggrin.gif
A quick one sparing only the minute details...

The item: T-Amp Board no.3
What has been done: Replacements of SMDs to Vishays discrete equivalents involving; capacitors qty:6 (C6,C7,C16,C26,C29,C30) and Resistors qty:4 (R2,R4,R5,R6).
Input caps replaced by 2.2uF ELNAs.

During initial power on and after hitting 'play' this is was my first reaction: WOW!
After 1 hour lapsed I began to analyse what is being heard and these are the total 12 hours worth of burn in and intensed listening.

The bass,low end frequency response.
Believe it or not, I could not believe this initially but finally I gave in. It is as good as my second board with the 2 EPCOS 10uF input caps! thumbup.gif
In fact it is marginally better in terms of control. More fluid and dare I say, dynamic. Well rounded and extended bass. I put in my Test CD specifically for bass testing and sceptical if the test would pass the board. I'm glad to say that it passed with flying colours! rclxms.gif and beat my Board 2 at the same time!

Midrange, vocals and high end.
This is where the T-Amp really shines. I felt as if a 'veal' has been removed from the sound stage. It is like having the HIGH FILTER button pushed OUT/OFF.
Talking about sound stage, it is now much much bigger and better with just the right ambience and depth! No toroid inductors was used, unbelieveable! tongue.gif
Back ground was dark. Eeerie dark. The sonic results are the sum of the mods done on my Board 1 & Board 2, combined.

Diana Krall's Boulevard of Broken Dreams gave me the goose bumps.. (as usual, but more this time!)
The piano, the double bass, percussions, her vocals just flow with accuracy and most importantly.. so natural..
Jim Tomlinson's Brazillian Sketches was really full of soul and the music simply flows like water. Jim's sax playing was simply very fluid. Stacey Kent's voice is simply mesmerizing. Period.

Still at 12 hours, the overall fidelity especially from the midrange and above, the edges are still a bit 'rough'. Evident of graininess and a bit of courseness are still audible probably due to low burn hours. I believe once the board hits 30'ish hours, it's gonna be like a car after an engine oil change. Mind you, its gonna be a synthetic oil! laugh.gif

If this third board were to be compared with the stock version, no contest. It is like comparing a WIRA to a Perdana! smile.gif This would be the best analogy I can associate the improvements with...

If there would be only one word for me to describe what I heard, it would only be: ACCURATE. So much accurate that the PRaT is simply awesome!!!! thumbup.gif

I bought a few 'audiophile' CDs when I was in Indonesia last week... The pix included here. I sat without moving a muscle till every CD has been played... which leads into this observation/conclusion, the BAD points...

Findings/conclusions/recommendations
- It rendered almost ALL my local CD pressing 'useless/hopeless'
I couldn't bare listening to any of these CD.. can't even last a whole song! doh.gif
Lack of dynamics, terribly bright, compressed, poorly mixed and badly mastered. One after another I put into the tray.. 5 seconds later I had to press the EJECT button... The local music industry had robbed from us the 'music' that we're supposed to get and enjoy... vmad.gif

- How can our neighbour, produce a better sounding CDs at a fraction/cheaper price than our local CD? ohmy.gif
No more local CDs for me. They're good to be played on the minicompo. Period.

Gentlement,
The above would nicely sums up the mods at 12 hours burn in period. After the input caps replacement, this would be the next best thing to do/upgrade. I would heavily/heartily recommend this modifications and after hearing the results, it WILL put a lot of commercial amps a run for the money and some to a definite shame.. whistling.gif

P/S, I have NOT installed the Vishay's 2.2uF input caps. Also the 0.47uF caps were NOT touched.Surely we can predict whats gonna happen.. if I did. brows.gif

Jazzy939 signing off.. (for now) whistling.gif

Y.C.,
Merci boucoup! tongue.gif
Yes.. that was intentional. brows.gif
So little effort and investment for a whopping improvements! thumbup.gif

Let's hope it does.. otherwise I need to 'tone down' my CD front end.. the S7000 as a transport is surprisingly good, match with an equally 'accurate' T-Amp.. needs better software to feed... wink.gif

Yes.. will attempt to give our local pressed CDs another shot this weekend... sweat.gif

QUOTE(Y.C. @ Sep 14 2008, 09:52 PM)
Bravo, bro Jazzy  rclxms.gif

The way you worded your review, it'll be a sin for us not to change those SMDs.  laugh.gif

The unforgiving characteristic of the T-amp after change in capacitors/resistors should simmer down after more hours of burning in, else a big chunk of our CD collections (those locally pressed ones) would be rendered unplayable.  rclxub.gif
