Ahhh bro ongbs,
Good to know that! tongue.gif
Am definitely will be getting that 1.3A SMPS.. building one for 'junior' to play wink.gif

xtorm,
yes, I will do that soon. the copper wire that I got from my supplier is expensive! tongue.gif
To keep the cost down, I may resort to getting them coppers from busted psu's and what nots laugh.gif
Recycling!!! tongue.gif

Yes, those elcheapo won't last that long. The heat will erode the bit in no time.. it's worthwhile to invest in a good one that will last 'forever' laugh.gif

nice chat with Y.C. today, another experiance audiophiler...

hmmm beside nixie...if there isnt a young girl there then im not sure was it tht shop, there is a fluke shop there right? nixie is the shop just beisde the famous chicken rice right? or was i wrong...hahaha, sorry ah Y.C.

btw i think smpa are all the same, meanwell is very well known, no issues.

jazzy, 0.2ohm is nice!!! i think you should start calculating the cost to do 1 for use tongue.gif i wana get it tongue.gif but waiting for reports!! hahaha
ongbs knn you also got inductance meter? built in the fluke ah? must steal your fluke...hmmmm

btw cheapo soldering iron cant last, my cheapo rm12 unit when dead when i was modding my t-amp tongue.gif

There's alot of online tutorials/infos..
You start with basic electrics and then move on to electronics.

korek-korek can't find the 1A SPMS, just afraid it will cut-off due to initial current draw from caps....will korek again smile.gif

How much would an old transformer costs?

Yep. I found that out yesterday! tongue.gif
They go by the kilos! shocking.gif

QUOTE(wui223 @ Aug 29 2008, 11:27 PM)
i used to buy old transformer from junkyard, coz that time try to DIY transformer but....it remains as junk afterwards...

Moral of the lesson is: get those copper wire from junkyard if u dun need much. buying them from JP is not cheap as most of the shop sell in roll.

Just powered my SMPS!
min. voltage can be adjusted: 9.98
max. voltage can be adjusted: 14.73

Will connect to T-Amp after 'warming up'... need to 'memorized' the sound first..
Need to know before and after SMPS.. brows.gif

ongbs,
the inductor, with the required capacitor forms part of the filtering network to filter only the modulation which includes the audio signal.
Whats left after the filtering is the great sound we heard... wink.gif
Therefore, without this filter, Class D would not work. tongue.gif

More stuffs to read here: Class D Amplifiers

QUOTE(ongbs @ Aug 29 2008, 11:34 PM)
Make sure you get the right trans as many are using thin copper wires, I believe thicker wires will give better results.

Btw, what is the function of that 4 inductors in our t-amp?

xtorm,
no worries! Substitues must be better, NOT less. We can't short change our super duper T-Amp, can't we? tongue.gif

Will NOT do the toroid inductor testing yet. The SMPS is progressing. Need to know and familiar myself with sounds first.
If too much mods are done at the same time, can't keep track whats affecting what... doh.gif

Mooncake boxes for T-Amp casing eh? Thinking 'outside the box' eh? laugh.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 30 2008, 12:23 AM)
jazzy unless those old copper are thick and with low resistance, i rather pay for the new 1... tongue.gif

im eager to know the result man...hahaha

moon cake festival is near, so lots of really nice box out there....haha
like this 1 here, damn its nice, a 3 layer thinggy, each layer with 1 mooncake only! rm61....wahlau, but only the top layer got cover...and only able to fit 1 t-amp with all the mods i have....

i found a better alternative which can host 2 of my boards...hehe, with another compartment for power supply too kekeke tongue.gif cheaper too with more mooncake in it hahahahha, still i love the 1 above.... hmm.gif

file holder! pretty resourceful! thumbup.gif

3: 1-forward speakers, 1-rear speakers, 1-sub-woofer? tongue.gif

eh your pillow put high high sleep and slow slow thinklah...wahahahahaha tongue.gif
yea must be better!! hahaha...some how the board came cheap at rm55, but mods are making it expensive!!! hahaha tongue.gif

yea tongue.gif love those boxes, kinda artistic with chinese words on it, and its a sleeper biggrin.gif after some thinking, since i gona put in in my car for awhile, mayb ill substitut with this file holder...hehehe, rm6 only, 3 boards no problem, why 3? thts another story haha

and best of all they are easy to work with...

The long awaited review is here! biggrin.gif

After 1 hour of warming up and 1 hour of listening.
Comparisons are made using the T-Amp that has clocked >45 hours burn in.
Initial power supply was a DIY Bench PSU, rated at 3A. Voltage used was 12.6VDC
The unit under scrutiny is a SMPS, rated at 4.3A. Voltage set was 12.34VDC tongue.gif
No changes to main unit made(T-Amp)
Main CD used; Jim Tomlinson-Brazillian Sketches and some other fav CDs to check out a few aspects of the sounds.

Do not expect a day and night type of differences.
I'll make this brief... it's half past one! laugh.gif

Found the music is on a slightly 'faster' beat. Better in the 'attack/decay' department.
Vocals and percussions really stood out. thumbup.gif
On linear PSU they are quite laid back and 'slight' mellow.
On SMPS, they're slightly forward. I just love the sounds of percussions, cymbals sounded so natural...
On the track 'I Concentrate On You' not only I could hear the fingers moving on the guitar's strings and frets, I could 'feel' it.
Still on guitar, not only I hear the notes as the results of the strings being pluck, I could 'hear' the plucking too! biggrin.gif

On the track 'Gentle rain', the saxaphone being played can make your hair 'stand'. You 'feel' the saxaphone being played right in front of you..
This goes through out the entire album!
Same track, before the start of the singing, I could actually detect when Stacey Kent started to open her lips... I wasn't aware of this earlier!

Bass on the linear PSU was rather tightly controlled. Some may like this. tongue.gif I used to...
ON SMPS, the bass is now 'breathing'. Can be misinterpreted as 'loose'.. Extended listening confirmed this. Bass now is simply bass!! Period.
I especially love the weight in the mid bass without losing the low end..this was very evident and was heard when the burn in is more than 45 hours, as I reported earlier. The SMPS really sums this up nicely.

The overall soundstage is just slightly spacious.. but I sensed a deeper depth.. even sitting to one side of the speakers it is quite obvious.
Now not only you hear music, you can feel/experience it too. thumbup.gif

Before this a few days back, I did use a 'laptop' type SMPS, rated at 2.5A, 12VDC. Very subtle changes in certain part of sounds but NOT overall. In this instances, I still prefer the linear PSU instead.

Now, this so called 'industrial grade' SMPS is wayyyy better! Will NOT be switching back to linear PSU for now.. tongue.gif

Conclusion: T-Amp + SMPS= marriage made in heaven wub.gif

Thanks to Jazzy, this give xtorm some inspiration. flex.gif

He decided to buy alot of stuff without telling me and then ask for forgiveness.
Sooner or later i'll like someone's wife to throw all the stuffs. Forgiveness more easy to get mah~ brows.gif

May be i don't throw, i keep then sell it rclxm9.gif

you're welcome bro ongbs.

I also can't wait to see/hear how those toroid inductors will perform... wink.gif

those inductors are just filters to remove the modulation from the audio.. but then again, you may be right! tongue.gif

Oh.. one more thing, I can really turn the volume up! higher than 10 o'clock position on my pre-amp.
normally 9-9.30 position would suffice! tongue.gif
