The not so yamadori "Yamadori" experience.

During my recent trip to The Scandinavian countries, the coach I was on was forced to stop in the middle of nowhere on a Norwegian mountain road due to road works
some distance away.

The Putrajaya Flora show is on. Usually there is a corner for bonsai.
Wondering it has it this year?

My suggestion.

No hurry to change pot.
Usual first time bonsai shaping - defoliate/ pluck away all the leaves and let the tree botak. Then cut a mushroom shape like to give it an apex.

Wow AZ,

You got some healthy stuff. The volcanic soil material is good.
Do you have a photo of the bag that contain the soil material?

This Chinese Elm was bought sometimes in 2008 from a Chinese bonsai trader at a shopping complex's parking lots.
The main trunk was full of cut wounds and wiring scares. It was then potted in the flat pot and left to grow free.

Finally decided to do something to improve it's look, but first some hard cleaning works are needed.

The first round of wind swept styling is only getting the tree a style that I'm looking for.
There are much much more to do including improvement on the ugly unrecoverable wounds at the main trunk.

Attached Image

Chinese Elm is a vigorous growing specie. This tree will properly take about 3 months to recover and grow vigorously again.
Now it's size compare to a Kumpung Koh chilies sauce bottle.

My limau rawit growing from a seedling, after 6 years still with the miserable pencil thick trunk.
Hope the Limau master Mr Loo can share his limau tree trunk thickening secret.
