Taking the advantages of the cool and shady weather today, decided to do
some clearing and cleaning to my plant and bonsai materials yard which I've not been doing for sometimes.

Came across this old Juniperous Horizontalis, looks so good and healthy on this side.

Attached Image

But on the other side... Oh my goodness ! It's TERMITE ATTACK !!! doh.gif vmad.gif
The termite has eaten into the trunk and formed a net work of route from main trunk to almost all the branches.

Attached Image

And so now the super insect killing pesticide has to come into action.

Attached Image

This is something I hate to use unless that's no alternative. It's classified as a class 2 poison, which can also kill small animals instantly.
After poured and washed the whole tree with a diluted solution of the pesticide, the soil surrounding the stump was also treated by
pouring on with the pesticide solution to make sure that any termite in the soil can also be got rid off. In order to be sure that the tree doesn't got
killed by the super pesticide, the next step is to dig it up, clean and plant it in a pot.
But then .... Oh no! A sudden heavy thunder storm started....

( to be con't )

Hi elmer,

I think it has all to do with over watering. It has been raining almost everyday + the auto watering 4 times a day is definitely too much water for any potted plant.
Sorry to say that your cucur attap seen quite impossible to be saved now. And your other 2 plants have all the symptoms of roots attacked by the pathogenic root rotting fungi due to over watering or soil waterlogged.

Attached Image

For the ficus and premna, change the soil materials to more porous type and watering once a day is more than sufficient.
You might need to cut short all the branches in order to stimulate new growths after re-potting.

TERMITE ATTACK! (con't)

It was a 2 hours heavy down pour and another hour of drizzle before the rain stopped.
I can't wait to go out to dig up the juniper even though the ground was still wet and muddy.

Attached Image

The main trunk and the branches were brushed and cleaned, and the damages were inspected carefully.

Attached Image Attached Image

Damages done by the termite were quite substantial. the main trunk and branches were actually hollowed, wooden tissues in the middle of the trunk and branches
were eaten by the stupid termites. However, the pattern of the cavity give an idea of crufting design to follow. But over crufting at his stage is dangerous can result in
non recovery of the tree. so only some light crufting works was done.

Attached Image Attached Image

This is how the Juniper looks like now...front or back? back or front?

Attached Image Attached Image

The trunk and foliage will be further enhanced after it has showed sign of recovery and growing well.

Thanks for your feedback. I think my cucur attap became like this from insufficient water! I just found out my watering system ran out of batteries! I hope it will survive.

Sanfong people told me the cucur attap needs lots of water and thats why i increase the watering frequency. It was doing very well for a good 6 months with the system

Maple is the only specie that I'm not be able to keep alive for more than a year.
Still trying to learn how to adapt it to the weather here.
From your photo, I think this tree was newly brought into M'sia. If not the nursery boss will have sold to you straight away and not telling you to come back 2 months later.
There are maple for sale in Sg Buluh but not sure of which specie and it's not so thick trunk and good nebari like the one you showed. BTW, how much it costs?

Do you know what's the correct way to grow a maple?

I bought one from sungai buloh about a year plus ago.   It's still alive, but not growing much even though it is planted in a huge pot.
Still skinny and the leaves always get burned (maybe due to the hot sun).  I just plucked all the leaves and now waiting for new leaves to grow.

thumbup.gif

I did the same but then the tree die off. I hope some body can share his experience on planting maple in our country.

Seldom seen trident maple. Those claimed Japanese maple not cheap also. My maple hardly grows even been in the ground for a few months now.
*
thumbup.gif

I wonder those so called Japanese maples are from China. Really not cheap and hard to grow. I gave up on this specie.
BTW, I think I won't be posting anything for the next 2 weeks. Hope you guys can post the photos of KL Lake Garden Bonsai Shows for sharing.

Hi brett,

That is a nice one. rclxms.gif drool.gif

You bought from plant nursery in s'pore or brought in from Japan?

You might have problem in de wiring if copper wire is used.

Good collection brett!

Bonsai Off Topic

The Norwegian Red Pine - Pinus resinosa.
I feel so lucky that I can come in contact with this specie of pine which is hardly know over here, and also have the chance of the great,
peaceful, and tranquility feeling when walking under a forest of mostly of this one specie of trees - The Red Pine.

Excellent bonsai materials.....

However Norwegians are one of the most nature conservative people in the world. They believe growing bonsai is like robbing away the freedom of the trees.
Training bonsai is a cruelty act to tree.

Again, here's the Great Red Norwegian Pine - Pinus resinosa ! rclxms.gif
