Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct thread to post this question and if not, I apologize in advance.
I'm trying to grow some plants in pots (ie. mango, bonsai, aloe vera) and I've been doing some reading on potting mixes. I came across this website: http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussions/1...d-retention-xvi and I'm interested in getting the components for the gritty mix. However, I've only managed to find 1 component which is crushed granite (not sure if it's granite but had 1 bag of stones leftover from renovation, the kind where you mix with cement and apply). The size of the stones is suitable for use (1/8"-3/16"). Any idea where I can get the other 2 components (pine bark and Turface which is calcined clay)? I understand that there have been quite a few people who use the above gritty mix for growing bonsai with excellent results. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! |

OOhhh..
Almost forgot.. Below are the 2 bonsais I got from Sanfong last week: ![]() Need to change the soil for the Santalia as reminded by the towkay. The leaves not so green anymore and you can see the veins on the leave.. I like both form of the trees. Try to get the bebuas to produce more leaves i suppose. Any tips on what is the best soil mixture for the Santalia? I bought the japanese red soil from the shop.. Thinking of mixing the red soil with the mixed black soil bought for my adenium. Any mixture of fertiliser for the soil? I am thinking of getting a bigger square pot for the Santalia.. any thought on that? As for repotting, I notice quite a chunk of roots came out from the 2 holes under the pot. Is it safe to trim them?? I will try to documents the process with my phone cam and share it here.. Peace Out |

Peace Out For Santalia, I suggest you use 1 part of black soil mix with 3 parts of red soil. You can cut away the roots grown out from the water holes. No harm. After repotting, defoliate (pluck ) away some of the leaves and to encourage new grows. Your bebuas is a nice one. I don't think your should do anything to it at this stage. Bebuas/Premna is a rapid grow specie, just let it grow and trim back when necessary. |

I found the recent bonsai exhibition at Tmn Botanic quite nice.
Anyone has the next bonsai exhibition/event? Thanks |
