Before I bought my LX3, I tested f100fd. My only disappointment is it lack of Aperture/Shuttle/Manual mode. F60fd has A/S priority mode, but 35mm.

When testing the LX3, it doesn't seem that impressive; except for the wider angle (24mm vs. 28mm), faster lens (f/2 vs. f/2.8), A/S/M mode, MF and macro (1cm vs. 5cm). Other features aren't that critical, i.e. LCD (460k vs. 230k, 3" vs. 2.7"), RAW, max shuttle speed (60s vs. 4s(?)), etc.

Compare to f100fd, less RM600, it is very much justifable. As for your gf case, for casual snapshot, she may rarely use these extra features.

But when I owned the LX3, I discover there are more usable features that f100fd don't have. One of those that I really like is the AF tracking, program shift, iso limit set, shuttle limit set, intelligent exposure, 2nd curtain flash sync, leveling, impressive HD recording (though lack of zoom during rec, poor sound rec).

Some of the features I like to use are baby scene mode, multi exposure, custom WB, 4 custom setting (all setting, WB, iso, image size, quality, flash, etc). The lack of florescent WB can be custom save in these mode.

Honestly, I never regret buying it. With every picture I take, it just reaffirm and reassure my decision that LX3 indeed worth every extra penny of the different.

Added on December 28, 2008, 11:11 pmForget to mention, G10 is also a good buy, had many features and pretty neat button layout. But the size (and price) really put me off biggrin.gif

Thanks for this. I've been looking for these photos taken with LX3. You got a few constellations up there! You mentioned the starry sky scene mode, is it a built in mode? There's little star trail due to the long exposure time. Next time, you can try a higher level of ISO and the exposure time a step lower.

Ya, it is a built in mode.
U can choose the "starry sky" mode from the SCN mode.
The are also tons of other preset modes to choose from in the SCN mode.

I noticed the trails also after uploading them to my pc.
Will try ur suggestion on my next try.
I have to thank you also for letting me discover another great thing my LX3 can do wink.gif

Thanks for showing us that LX3 have terrible purple fringing.

By the way, if you up the ISO during starry night, you'll get more star from noise. laugh.gif bad suggestion I
think to increase ISO....

Purple fringing??
If those purple colors are purple fringing then i think we can throw the LX3 out the window liao.
hahahha....

I think the colors u r seeing are caused by my car's windscreen, not the lens.

Thank you too! May I know what's the place that you took the photo? I wonder if it's close enough to me so that I can conduct observing there. It seems like the light pollution is so low. Usually with fast photographic system, short exposure is more than enough to show the orange tint which is the nature of the light pollution.

I took this in front of my house.
The street lights were out and I noticed that the sky was extremely clear that night.
The moon was also no where to be seen which was good actually.

Like I mentioned b4, it is not easy to take photos of starry skies in urban areas because of a lot of ambient lighting coming from houses, buildings, street lamps, etc.

And the days after i took the few shots i showed u guys, the night skies were always cloudy and I couldn't see stars anymore.
Wanted to try out with higher ISOs.

I'd go with KATA DP-413 Digital Pouch due to the space inside. But best if you can try it out first.

Well, if we say the LX3 is better, u might think we r giving biased opinions right?
Why not u try looking at the photos taken by fellow LX3 users here and decide for urself?
And if u really need 3rd party opinions, why not go google it up or read dpreview's LX3 review which has very detailed comparisons between the LX3, Canon's G10 and Nikon's P6000.

Mate, I doubt those bags are good enough. Search for Lowerpro Edit 100. There are plenty of space inside the main pouch and lots of smaller pockets around you can put all your accessories in eg. charger, extra bat, extra sdcard. I'm currently using it and I'm very very happy with it.

Comes with both zip and sticking cover (I forgot the term doh.gif) and big enough to fit everything I need. That's why I choose the bag. Check it out in Malaysia to see if it fits you tongue.gif

It costs me 35 AUD for the bag. SO if you can get a kata bag, you can definitely get the Edit 100 laugh.gif
